About this app

Reliable weather forecasts for astronomers with an emphasis on cloud cover.

Features include:

• Seven day hourly forecasts, updated hourly.
• Low, medium, high and total cloud cover.
• Moon rise/set times and phase.
• Sun rise/set and transit.
• Civil/nautical/astronomical darkness.
• International Space Station (ISS) pass-over information.
• Location search automatically provides a forecast for your location.
• Save favourite locations for easy access.
• Covers daytime too so also useful for solar observers/imagers.

Updated hourly. Frequent hourly updates are important because often the clear spell between showers provides excellent seeing and 30-minutes under a clear sky with a grab-&-go telescopes is pure gold!

Did you notice the ISS pass-over information? The times are precisely calculated for your location and displayed alongside the cloud forecasts so it has never been easier to observe. It is our favourite feature :-)

Also includes regular weather data (wind, rain, frost, temperature, dew point, etc) so perfect for those wanting a detailed weather forecast, without cutesy graphics.

We have had a lot of fun building and testing Clear Outside and are keen to to develop it further so if you find it useful or have suggestions, please let us know.

Overall the app is just as quick and useful as it is on the web. Only recently I have noticed the app isn't displaying any info for the phases or percentage of the moon for most locations. I've cleared all app data and cache but still no luck. The app could definitely use a tune up!

The app location defaults to somewhere in England and there appears to be no way to change this (no settings anywhere!). I can add another location (I live on another continent) but when entering the app it always defaults to England. That is fairly annoying. The rest of the app looks good, though I didn't really try it because of the location problem.

This can be changed, simply add your chosen location in the saved locations tab and tick the option to make that your default home location.

A very useful tool, but lacks a few critical details. A legend of sorts would be nice(is the wind in mph or km/s? Who knows!) it would also be nice to be able to set units to your preference. I know SI is Celsius, but for the air temperature, Fahrenheit is the superior unit. The saved location function is un-intuitive, but if you are willing to use your latitude and longitude, it does work well enough. Free is nice, but I would be willing to pay for a more polished app.
