Customers are mixed about the sturdiness of the transport rack. Some mention that they remained sturdy, and with the addition of J-Racks, they were able to, say that it's reliable, and the cross bars are very stable. Others say that they're a little on the flimsy side, the aforementioned floppy plastic pads, and have zero confidence in the rack's integrity. The straps and buckles aren't very high quality, and they had to purchase a stronger set.

"...of the bars but I probably pushed beyond that limit but these held up no problem and maybe because I evenly distributed the load across the length..." Read more
Customers are mixed about the stability of the transport rack. Some mention that they stay in place for about 400 miles at fast, it holds kayaks very well, and will fit almost any vehicle. However, others say that they have a tendency to slip a bit and will fall off easily. The feet on the brackets do not stick to the roof of the car, and the pillars that touch the roof do not stay on when the rack is not on the car.

"...These are not well thought out." Read more

Customers are dissatisfied with the leakage of the transport rack. They mention that the straps allow water to leak inside the car, and the belts holding the bars were soaked. The product is not waterproof and can and probably will come through if you're caught in weather. The strap breaks the weather seal, allowing water to seep into the car. This causes a whistling noise and creates a gap in the door seals.
"...It started to rain heavily and as a result our J-bars shifted since the material became way too slick...." Read more
"...Even without having anything on the racks.2. Interior was soaked after a rain storm...." Read more
"...The one downside we came to identify is water can seep into the straps and through the door seal down into the car...." Read more
"...The strap system does let water into your car but no bad. Just get some scotch guard water resistant spray and that should fix it...." Read more
Customers are not satisfied with the straps of the transport rack. They mention that the strap is not sufficient to hold the bars in one place, the hardware was missing, and the strap hangs down in the middle of the ceiling.
"...The first product we received was missing half of its parts and we had to get a replacement sent to us...." Read more
"...3. Parts seem to be sturdyThe bad:1. Straps are not sufficient to hold the bars in one place...." Read more

I recently used it to transport a 12 foot Minifish sailboat (total weight with hulls/spars and sails about 100 lbs.) on a friends 2006 Honda Accord for 50 miles at speeds up to 75-80 Mph and again had zero problems.
The crossbars are fairly sturdy and coated with a durable hammer-finish paint. The bar diameter fits snugly into pool noodles I bought at Target to pad the cross bars. I suggest to those saying the racks are slippery and their stuff slides off to use the pool noodles.
These bars are not some high-tech rack, just simple cross bars. For 60 dollars they work well. The bases that sit on the roof have rubber-ish pads on the bottom that are not glued on. The only negative is that I have to make certain when I store the racks I take the rubber pads and store them somewhere safe so I do not lose them.
This product is good for what it is. It's inexpensive and a one-size fits all - so it's definitely not perfect.
But, I like it. It's the only option I had to put rails on my car. I have put wood, a mattress, and various other things up there and have not had any major problems.
You definitely don't want to overload it with weight, it could damage the roof of your car. They are very steady side-side when tightened well. There can tend to be some slight movement forward-backwards which is a little concerning - but as long as the weight is not overloaded, it has not been a serious problem for me.
I am short, so the straps crossing inside the car is not a problem for me, but I could see how anyone taller than about 5'4'' would run into the straps as they cross the ceiling. On my car, they have to run directly above the driver seat, but depending on your car, this might not be the case.
I had also hoped to be able to drive with them on all the time - but they make a very loud whistle/air stream noise when driving over about 45mph and empty. So I have to take them off unless I am using them because the noise is too much.
They are fast to put on, easy to set up.
I would not be willing to put anything super expensive up there - bikes or large and heavy carrying cases. I might be willing to put a kayak up there depending on how heavy it was.
Overall, they are not fabulous. But they do the job. They have given me the ability to haul many things that I wasn't able to before. They are an inexpensive option until I get a new car with permanent rails.
I chose this set mostly because it straps completely around the roof, not just to the edge. I've had a lot of experience carrying such racks on small cars, and know it can be done safely IF I am careful about safety and stability. I do not anticipate needing this often, so I will keep it and deal with my issues. If you intend to use it often and for some large loads, I would probably caution you to pay special attention to the size of your vehicle, and be prepared to return it if you have serious doubts. If I anticipated using a soft roof bag for luggage or light weights, I would not hesitate to use it, but I'd be careful to put a pad under it to protect my roof.
Overall, I am not saying to NOT buy it, just to consider how you intend to use it on your own vehicle. I do not anticipate any real issues for my purposes.
