62 customers mention56 positive6 negative

122 customers mention72 positive50 negative

Customers are mixed about the sturdiness of the transport rack. Some mention that they remained sturdy, and with the addition of J-Racks, they were able to, say that it's reliable, and the cross bars are very stable. Others say that they're a little on the flimsy side, the aforementioned floppy plastic pads, and have zero confidence in the rack's integrity. The straps and buckles aren't very high quality, and they had to purchase a stronger set.

"...They are very steady side-side when tightened well...." Read more

"...These bars are not some high-tech rack, just simple cross bars. For 60 dollars they work well...." Read more

"...1. Arrive as expected2. Easy to assemble3. Parts seem to be sturdyThe bad:1...." Read more

"...of the bars but I probably pushed beyond that limit but these held up no problem and maybe because I evenly distributed the load across the length..." Read more

120 customers mention40 positive80 negative

Customers are mixed about the stability of the transport rack. Some mention that they stay in place for about 400 miles at fast, it holds kayaks very well, and will fit almost any vehicle. However, others say that they have a tendency to slip a bit and will fall off easily. The feet on the brackets do not stick to the roof of the car, and the pillars that touch the roof do not stay on when the rack is not on the car.

"...There can tend to be some slight movement forward-backwards which is a little concerning - but as long as the weight is not overloaded, it has not..." Read more

"...The bar diameter fits snugly into pool noodles I bought at Target to pad the cross bars...." Read more

"...cover to serve as additional protection for the roof, BUT, they don't quite fit...." Read more

"...3. Feet on the brackets do not stick to the roof of the car...." Read more

15 customers mention6 positive9 negative

Customers are mixed about the appearance of the transport rack. Some mention that they are not cheap looking, while others say that the design is poor and the product is not well thought out. However, most are satisfied with the product's performance and value for money.

"...Overall, they are not fabulous. But they do the job. They have given me the ability to haul many things that I wasn't able to before...." Read more

"...They look pretty sweet too. If you just need something and don't care much for a name brand label go ahead and get this rack." Read more

"...These are not well thought out." Read more

"...Looks great, too." Read more

32 customers mention4 positive28 negative

Customers are dissatisfied with the leakage of the transport rack. They mention that the straps allow water to leak inside the car, and the belts holding the bars were soaked. The product is not waterproof and can and probably will come through if you're caught in weather. The strap breaks the weather seal, allowing water to seep into the car. This causes a whistling noise and creates a gap in the door seals.

"...It started to rain heavily and as a result our J-bars shifted since the material became way too slick...." Read more

"...Even without having anything on the racks.2. Interior was soaked after a rain storm...." Read more

"...The one downside we came to identify is water can seep into the straps and through the door seal down into the car...." Read more

"...The strap system does let water into your car but no bad. Just get some scotch guard water resistant spray and that should fix it...." Read more

18 customers mention4 positive14 negative

Customers are not satisfied with the straps of the transport rack. They mention that the strap is not sufficient to hold the bars in one place, the hardware was missing, and the strap hangs down in the middle of the ceiling.

"...The first product we received was missing half of its parts and we had to get a replacement sent to us...." Read more

"...3. Parts seem to be sturdyThe bad:1. Straps are not sufficient to hold the bars in one place...." Read more

"...Since the included tie downs don't have door clips you have to remove them after each use and hope the straps don't work there way back out...." Read more

"...I chose this set mostly because it straps completely around the roof, not just to the edge...." Read more

WORKS GREAT...BETTER WITH SOME "RE-ENGINEERING"

WORKS GREAT...BETTER WITH SOME "RE-ENGINEERING"
Bought these to use on my 2007 Ford f150 that has a cap and only a 5 1/2 foot bed (or 8 ft with tailgate open and bed extender used). I wanted to be able to occasionally haul home items that were 10-16 feet long (longer boards, trim, ladders) that I could put up on a roof rack on the truck without installing a more permanent roof rack system. Overall I was happy with the quality of the product especially given the price. I however after reading other reviews and even having my own nature of "re-engineering": items, knew I would be adapting the product in one way or the other, especially replacing the provided tie down straps (small metal squeeze "clips with teeth") with better ratcheting straps (which in my honest opinion ratcheting straps should come supplied with the product). So I assembled them but added some eye hooks (with flat washers and lock washers to keep eye hook nuts tight) from my local hardware store (total of about $10 in all hardware) so that I could attach the hooks from ratchet straps (purchased at Harbor Freight for only $6.99 for 4 but alos available other places) that I would be using to replace the provided "inferior" straps. SEE PHOTOS --- I put these added eye hooks through the "extra holes on the cross pipe that are not used by the "base feet" for the bars. I also added an extra eye hook on each side figuring I could use those eye hooks when needed in future to hook bungee cords or even ratchet straps to tie down what I am hauling on the racks. I may drill a few more holes near middle of cross pipes and add a few more eye hooks for additional "anchor points" for bungee straps and ratchet straps.I easily installed and used them yesterday to go to Home Depot to haul home (10 mile trip...mostly back roads) some pieces of 14ft trim and some 12 ft. pine boards. These roof bars worked very well and with my "beefed up" versions held my load quite secure despite concern at first.I wish I would have taken a photo of the load all strapped up, but I did keep in mind the weight limit of the bars but I probably pushed beyond that limit but these held up no problem and maybe because I evenly distributed the load across the length of the bars rather than all on one side. And I am sure it helped that I had beefed up (replaced) the straps that hold the bars onto the truck with better ratcheting straps and my adaptations to the bars also allowed me to strongly secure my load to the bars.My only concern yesterday while I was loading the bars was that the "feet" on the front bar were pressing down the roof of my truck cab with the weight of the load. I at least knew that the rigidity of the roof would hold up okay thanks to how the roof on the truck has added strength due to it having built in valleys along the roof rather than one flat panel like on a car roof. However, if the bar was about 10 inches longer (according to directions with bars the manufacturer makes an model of this system with bars that can be made longer) then the feet of the bar would have ended up on top of/resting on the stronger part of the roof just above/beyond where the tops of the doors are which is a stronger part of the roof assembly...kind of like a "roll bar" on a vehicle in case of roll over. The bar on the cap had the feet on a strong part of the cap so no issues there. It was only the bar on my truck cab roof that made me a little nervous when loading it up. But once I got home and unloaded the rack everything was fine.Once unloaded, the bars came off every easily and store nicely in the back of my truck and the ratchet straps are wrapped up and in a plastic container for next time they and the bars are needed. This system worked grate for this purpose as I had intended for my truck! So my next "re-engineering" on the system will be to either add a new longer pipe to the rack/bar that I attach on my truck cab or I may get an "insert" bar at a smaller diameter than the existing bar and cut the existing bar in the middle and then put the "insert bar" inside the existing bar and then drill holes and bolt it all together...thus making my own "adjustable width" bar like the manufacturer offers. All and all I am very happy with this system and I anticipate it will work well for the times I need it without me spending a lot of money for something I will not need very often but when I do I will be able to use it! That is a win for me.I would have given it 5 stars if I did not need to adapt it with about $16 of parts....but then again the product was priced fairly to start...so I would say all in all so far it gets this handyman's high rating!Hope this review helps others and maybe they can adapt their like I did mine!
