This knife set is absolutely amazing! Not only is it beautiful so I can leave it out on display on my counter, but the knives are so sharp. Plus, it's space saving design actually saves me space and we know space is limited in most kitchens! Dicing, Chopping and Slicing become a breeze and so enjoyable when you are working with this knife set. If you are looking for a new set of knives these are the ones for you. I adore the fact that this knife set has built in sharpeners, which make it less of a hassle for me in the long run! The first time I used one of these Calphalon knives I realized what I had been missing all of these years! I immediately felt the high quality of the knives in my hand as I used them. They are sturdy, sharp and take up very little counter space.
The maple wood knife block makes them easy to access and they look beautiful and stylish sitting on my dark granite kitchen counter. I love the variety of sizes in this set for various, practical uses. 
My favorite features are how the knives are labeled (very convenient) and the built-in sharpeners!
I highly recommend them and don't plan on buying another knife set ever again!

I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. For years I have been dealing with using dull knives in my two old knife block sets, both taking up valuable counter space. Dull knives take the fun out of cooking and can make your dicing, chopping, slicing look less than good. That's why I was thrilled to get the Calphalon Contemporary 12-Piece Space-Saving Self-Sharpening Knife Block Set. This set has everything you need to dice, chop and slice with ease. It includes the essential knives you need: 8-in. Chef’s Knife, 5-in. Santoku Knife, 4.5-in. Paring Knife, 8-in. Bread Knife, 6 Steak Knives and Kitchen Shears. Here's the GREAT news-- there are built in ceramic sharpeners that automatically sharpen you knives with each use! So every time you put them away, they are getting sharp for the next time you need them. Plus the handles are labeled so you know exactly where they go in the knife block and the handles themselves are ergonomic, so your hands won't get so tired. Yay!  Speaking of the maple wood knife block, it's slim ( 9.2” L x 3.7” W x 7.9” H) and well designed, so it doesn't  take up a ton of space on your kitchen counter. The block is a lovely color that would look great in anyone's home. These knives are sturdy-- they are crafted out of high-carbon, no-stain German steel (steak knives are made from stamped Asian steel). It's important to hand wash them. You can feel good knowing there is a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. I highly recommend this set.

Space Saving Knife Set will Simplify Your Life

This is probably the nicest knife set I have ever owned.  My husband and I love the knife sharpener built into the product.  With our busy lives, having one less thing to do (knife sharpening) is great.  I also appreciate that the knives are labeled so I can start using the correct knife for each task.  The knives are easy to use, comfortable to hold, and help me slice through food like I'm a real chef.  As a consumer I care more about how a product works than aesthetics but this set works wonderfully and looks nice on my countertop. I did receive this product for free in exchange for my honest review. I know Calphalon  has quality products, my favorite pan is a Calphalon that I have had for 14 years.  This knife set just reinforced what I already know, if I want a quality product for my kitchen, it has to be Calphalon.

I love these knives!

I bought a set of knives for myself approximately a year ago and love them. Only set of knives that I found are in a block & easy to identify by name on handle. Love them so much I bought this set for my daughter and her husband for Christmas gift. Heavy duty and well made.

Love Caphalon products!!

I got this set just in time for Thanksgiving prep. Some of the first things I noticed are the weight of the knives, how sharp they are and the beautiful design of the wood block. Because the knives are made with High-carbon, no-stain German steel they are a little heavier than any of my other knives, and I LOVE it! To me that is a sign of quality and the one piece design will hold up. I don't have to worry though because they have a full lifetime warranty. 

The selection of knives is great and I was able to prep our entire Thanksgiving dinner with the knives in this set. The 8-in. Chef’s Knife is my favorite. It slices through anything and powers through the toughest of chores, cutting my work time in half. The 5-in. Santoku Knife is also a powerhouse when chopping and cutting and between these two knives, I was super happy. All of the others are a huge bonus. 

The knives clean up easily and the three knives on the right side have a built in ceramic sharpener system to keep them sharp and ready to work. The beautiful Maple wood knife block holds all  items and takes up little space on your counter. It looks great and will compliment any decor. 

I recommend this set for everyone from novices to pros. It will make your kitchen experience that much better and get you excited to be in the kitchen!

LOVE the slim design and built in sharpeners

I was lucky enough to receive this knife set in return for giving an honest review of the product.  The Calphalon 12 piece space saving knife block set is a welcome feature in my kitchen. Yes, counter space is at a premium for me, and this sleek set of knives takes up less space, and stores TWICE the amount of knives as the block it's replacing (see photo - Calphalon set on the right). PLUS these are all the right knives I need for regular work in the kitchen and includes a set of steak knives and kitchen shears. Self sharpening...they say having a sharp knife is so important and I agree.  Unfortunately I've never quite figured out how to use the steel knife sharpener in my other sets and instead suffered dull knives or had to take them to the hardware store for that sharp edge. This Calphalon set has built in sharpeners in the main knife section (see photo). Everytime you draw the blade it sharpens. WOW. I love this set, I love the way it looks on the counter, I love the fact it's got everything I need without the knives that go unused. I've been an owner of Calphalon products for years.  I know they are good quality and will last forever. I'm ready to put this knife set to the long term test.

I want sharp knives that hold their edge. These knives are just what I was looking for in a kitchen knife set. I am very happy with my purchase of this knife set.

The set is compact to provide more counter space

I was outfitting a small kitchen for a townhouse where counter space was at a premium. This knife set was perfect! Good selection of essential knifes in a compact footprint, with easy access that is good looking. The self sharpening feature was a pleasant plus. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Perfect for starter or small kitchens

This set was a Christmas present for my girlfriend.  She LOVES them and, when I'm allowed to use them, LOL, so do I.  They are incredibly sharp and should stay that way with the built-in sharpeners (SharpIN Technology).  They are very well balanced and are even etched on the pommel with which knife it is (Bread, Chef, Paring, etc.) which is a very nice touch.

Now the problem.  The stainless steel trim around the self-sharpening slots for the Chef, Santuko, and Paring knives is simply stuck on with what appears to be double-sided tape and is already popping off after only two weeks of use.  It in no way affects the knives or the sharpening function but does detract from the beauty of the set.  I will hope that this is an isolated issue but it should be pointed out.  I have only given four stars for appearance and quality due to this issue.  Other than that, this is a five star set!
