You&#39;re talking about a honing rod.  They hone the knife. It straightens the blade between sharpening, but it does not sharpen the blade. To sharpen a blade, you&#39;ll need a whetstone (best), or a pull through sharpener (not as good, but better than nothing).

My set came with a slot/hole for the sharpen set.

There was a place for the sharpening steel in my block.

I bought one and there is no slot for the sharpening steel but in the picture the same handle is there do I have to drill a hole?

It appears to be the dark rosewood. Stain does not come off when cleaning the knives. I just received my set so I haven&#39;t really cleaned the block yet, other than when I first opened the packaging.

Is the wood on the knives &amp; block actually the darker rosewood? I mean- its not just regular plain ole wood color that hasnt been stained is it?

So excited to get my knife set!! Lovely and looks great in my kitchen. Comes with a cool pair of scissors, big and little knives and a set of steak knives. They all have their own individual space on the block. The knives are sharp, well calibrated and easy to use. I'm sure I will have this set for a long time!

The Pioneer Woman Rosewood Knife Set color is very stunning and beautiful. It arrived by FedEx I was a little disappointed the driver left the box right in front of the door, not behind the column where most packages are placed. The knife set was double boxed for shipping, every item well packed inside the box. Each knife blade tip is covered with a small plastic cup to prevent damage and placed in a cardboard sleeve. The butcher block is nice and heavy, well made of solid wood and the color matches the knife handles. The blades are triple riveted, forged with high construction carbon stainless steel that has a smooth finish. The knife set has every type of knife I would ever need. The handle grips don't slip when using and has a very well balanced feel. The scissors are a little heavy for me and will take some time to get use to the design, made different then most kitchen scissors. The knives are not as sharp as my older Farberware that I've had for almost 20 years, but seems to do the job with ease and hope will last as long. The nice thing about this set it comes with a knife sharpener. Like any nice quality knife set, be sure to follow the care instructions. Hand wash don't use in your dishwasher or leave in water to soak, never use harsh abrasives to clean. Always make sure they are dry using a soft cloth before placing in the butcher block. The beauty and style of the knife set would compliment any kitchen whether it is country or modern. They would make a great gift, for someone who likes to cook.

I waited a long time to get The Pioneer Women Vintage Floral 14 piece cutlery set, and it was worth the wait. I love the vintage lvory floral design fits well in my kitchen. You get every type of knife you will need in any kitchen. So I give a thumbs up to pioneer women.

This set of cutlery is very heavy, flaw free and well constructed. We put them to the test, and they are super sharp, cutting through a large melon, other fruits and vegetables, and steaks effortlessly and so easily. The shears make it so easy to spatchcock a chicken or piece it out for frying. Haven't tried the knife sharpener that's included as it's not at all necessary at the moment. Every size of knife I need are present and they feel great in hand. The knife block is constructed well also, smells nice, and has rubber feet to keep it in place and raised from any moisture. It's sturdy and doesn't move around when you are removing or inserting a knife. Top quality and I'm 100% satisfied.

Pioneer woman 14 PC vintage floral cutlery set, is a beautiful addition to my other pioneer woman kitchen products. Its absolutely beautiful, with a very nice weight to them. The are very well made, and the handles are very comfortable. The knives cut beautifully, and the sheers are absolutely awsome. I also just love the wooden block for storage!!
