Just returned from a 2 week holiday to the Dominican for the first time and overall was a really great holiday.
Check in was easy and the kind bell boys helped us to our room with luggage via a buggy. On arrival to our room the TV appeared to be broken but one phone call and a maintenance guy was straight up to the room to fix it which was good.
The room itself was spacious, clean and had a large kingsize bed with a bird made out of towels on top with flowers as a nice gesture. The only problem we had with the room was that most days the room wasn’t cleaned until past 4.30-5.30 pm which if you are wanting to go up and get a shower early proved a bit difficult. But overall cleaning was great and room was spotless every day and fridge restocked with waters and fizzy drinks.
The hotel was clean and had a massive pool with pool bar. The hotel is right on Bavaro beach as well which was perfect and lots of water sports available e.g kayaking, banana boat, parasailing. No problems getting sun loungers and there was a lovely lady who would get your drinks for you.
The buffet had a wide variety of foods available and you get 3 reservations in the A la carte per week. We tried the Mexican, Japanese, Steakhouse and American. All of which were great and a nice change from the buffet and staff look after you.
Entertainment was good always something different every night, our particular favourite was the MJ Night.
Staff were lovely and welcoming and although there was a language barrier for us as we do not speak Spanish and quite a few staff did not speak English it became a challenge especially trying to order drinks, but the staff were still pleasant and friendly.
We did a couple of excursions and would recommend to go to Coco Bongos and Swimming with dolphins. We booked these via our Rep and we had a fantastic time.
We really enjoyed our holiday, Thank you.

Let's start with the fact that we were hesitant with all of the negative press around the DR and this was our first trip there. We had a group of 15 people and decided we would go anyway. We are so glad we did! It's hot as we anticipated although as long as you stay hydrated with Dirty Bananas and Frozen Margaritas at the pool you will be fine. The room is standard plenty of AC you can't control the temperature but it was totally fine and I like it cold in the room. The view was ok you could see the shops from our balcony and the walkway which led to some great people-watching at night. The cleaning staff was amazing as our room was cleaned and restocked every day. I tipped the cleaning staff $10 our first day and asked for some extra water in the room. We had a case of water in our room left for us every day that is five-star service. As far as the culinary experience I'm a trained Chef from the Culinary Institute of America. I did not pick this resort because I thought I was going to have a Napa Valley food and wine tour. I was pleasantly surprised. The buffet had plenty of offerings and they provided new offerings every night with some staples. Upon arrival, you need to make reservations for the specialty restaurants. You can make 3 reservations again I tipped ($10) to our guest services agent and the next day we had 4 reservations for our entire group to eat together each night. We enjoyed the following restaurants and I ranked them in the following order: Steakhouse, Asian, Mexican, Seafood. Wilson our waiter in the Mexican restaurant was amazing!

There is no swim-up pool bar which was a downer before arrival. I'm so happy there wasn't or we may not have met Maria who was amazing. She walked around the pool area all day serving whatever you wanted from alcohol, cappuccinos, and water. I can't say enough good things about her as she even brought a cream from her home for my brother in law who is partially handicapped and had swollen feet. Maria "I love you baby...Drinkie Drinkie...Which what you will hear her say all day.

The beach had some algae but they do a good job of removing it from the beach and they can't control the ocean and didn't stop us from enjoying the water just more of a nuisance.

The shows at night were good at least my family said so. As it was too hot as the shows are outdoors and combined with my ADD I spent my time in the casino donating to the economy. Manuel from the entertainment staff was engaging and made us feel apart of his family.

We booked a catamaran from Marcus at the pool area another great guy! $50 for snorkeling and they take you to the natural pool, drinks on the boat and amazing sites. This is run by Dressel Divers I'm guessing they are contracted by Iberostar. They were very professional and amazing. Only 4 people in our group did this excursion and guess what were the only 4 people guest on the boat with 4 staff members.

I'll leave it there this was an amazing trip not sure why anyone would complain about this resort. Some people just don't know how to have a good time, tip, and be respectful. Don't hesitate to book now you will love it.

Best things about Iberostar Dominicana are the nice gardens, the beautiful birds at the ponds and also the food was quite rich. Although you not allowed to try all the a la carte restaurants during your stay, they served pretty awesome food in the steak house and the oriental restaurant. The cigar shop is quite good as well, also the disco and the American restaurant offer a few additional, nocturnal activities.

But the Junior Spa Suite was in a terrible condition, door didn't lock correctly, A/C did leak all the time and the furniture and curtains looked like grandmother's taste, the Mini bar was really 'mini' and had no snacks. Everything of the room looked very outdated. From the concept to the realization.

The SPA was quite nice and in a good condition I would say. Unfortunately only one song was played in the area in continuous loop during the three days which was really annoying. But seems like, they only have one single CD to play!

I spent 50 USD in their hair salon for the worst price-performance ratio, I’ve ever encountered. Complete amateurish hairdresser and barber.

Worst thing was, that not all room courtesies were delivered as promised. Guests with the same room category got treated differently. This shouldn’t be the case within the same room category. It took one and a half days to receive all the missing items and requests after telling the staff what to do.

When I travelled to Iberostar, I had due to a sport injury two weeks earlier fractures in both heels and could only move limping. For me it was very disappointing to see, that every obese US-American was transported to their rooms with a golf caddy. But I had to walk/limp with my luggage a 1/4 mile to my room.
I was later interested in having a guided tour with the golf caddy to see all installations and the golf course. Unfortunately, I was told to wait inside of the lobby, because one of their employees had to ask the manager. The usual 'I buy some time' answer. After waiting for 15 minutes desperately in the lobby, I gave up and discarded the idea to see more of the Iberostar area.

All in all, I would say that it wasn’t worth the money and that I would not recommend (business) traveler with ambitions to go to Iberostar Dominicana. After my site inspection at Iberostar Dominicana, we won’t offer and suggest it to our customers anymore.
Don’t expect too much from the personnel or the service. For price sensitive customers and ‘All-you-can-eat’-hunters it could be a great deal.

Well I have to say the iberostar chain of hotels are fantastic..a few minor details I will come to later but overall you don't want for anything at the dominicana and punta cana hotel..
Firstly the hotel and grounds are spotless. We were in the bungalows and they are a little dated but kept clean daily.
The food great choice and plentiful 24 hours a day there is somewhere open for food. The rose wine fizzy or champagne rose is beautiful fresh crisp. All cocktails of a great standard.
7 a La carte restaurants to go at I especially loved the French restaurant the steak was beautiful.
WiFi connection throughout the hotel spot on. You could also get a signal down at the beach..
The beach itself is amazing bavarro beach is something else however the seaweed issue doesn't seem to be going away and some days can get pretty bad. I came here 5 years ago and it wasn't an issue unfortunately now it is. However it's worse further down the beach outside grand baha principe that was horrendous down there.
The beach sellers can be a little annoying but after a while they get the message.
The star friends entertainment team and staff are fantastic a special mention to Mr kool who is a personality very funny.
The entertainment at night a bit hit and miss but is what it is..it's done by the star friends team and is okay however there was a professional Michael Jackson show on Sunday which was first class...
Overall I would give the hotel 8/10 they could only really improve the night entertainment and the seaweed unfortunately they can't control. Paradise it is not but it's a close second.
I will return again probably in several years

My family and I went to Iberostar Dominicana for our summer vacation. Overall it was good but there is room for improvement.
Pros: Clean rooms, Shows were funny, Hotel is on the beach, Food was decent, love the flamingos and animals
Cons: Need more variety in food and seasoning for meats/fish!; Too much seaweed on the beach and the seaweed scratches. I recall one day we couldn’t even go into the ocean because the entire shallows was full of seaweed. Sometimes the back of seats have dried bird poop because the birds are always swooping into the cafeteria.
