About

AMANDA SHIRES IN CONCERT:

Alt-country sweetheart Amanda Shires has made a name for herself with her velvety croon, impressive violin playing, and simple yet powerful arrangements. Critics have likened Shires' voice to greats like Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton, and fans lucky enough to catch her powerful renditions of emotional tracks like "Devastate" and "Swimmer" in concert will have no trouble seeing why. A talented multi-instrumentalist as comfortable on the ukulele as she is on the violin, Shires always enthralls ticket buyers with her musicianship and dynamic energy on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Texas-born Amanda Shires began performing with Western swing outfit the Texas Playboys at age 15. In the early '00s she began writing her own music, and in 2005 she released her solo debut album Being Brave. After relocating to Nashville she followed up in 2009 with her sophomore album West Cross Timbers, a powerful collection of songs that garnered praise for its masterful songwriting and uncluttered arrangements. Critical acclaim continued with her 2011 album Carrying Lightning, which contained the track "When You Need a Train It Never Comes" -- named the fifth best song of the year by American Songwriter magazine. With her fourth album -- 2013's Down Fell the Doves -- Shires achieved her most ambitious collection of songs to date, earning another round of glowing reviews before hitting the road on tour.

Excellent Concert-Sound Engineering Could Be Better

    by Kaline1968 on 12/25/22Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

I had never seen Amanda before although I was familiar with some of her work with the HighWomen. The Bijou Theater is very intimate, just the right venue for an artist like Amanda Shires. She has a very open and vulnerable persona, but it is more than apparent that underneath is a very strong woman. Her music is very personal, as if she is reliving moments from her life. I thoroughly enjoy the evening. She can really connect with an audience. I have seen a lot of concerts and there are a lot of big name artists unwilling to make the attempt to " bring the audience in". They just want to play the songs with very little interaction and " move on". Can you say Eric Clapton? Amanda played the music from her recent album and it was fine for me. People who have followed her career may have wanted more, but the audience was very enthusiastic and overall it was a wonderful experience. My only complaint is that her mic level was set too low in relation to the rest of the band, and when things were " rocking", you had a hard time hearing the vocals clearly. If she comes to your area, I would encourage you to go see her. I think you would really enjoy that concert.

by Tom J on 11/12/22Madrid Theatre - Kansas City

We had a great time at the Amanda Shires concert. She put on a terrific show and we had great seats at a balcony table. This was our first concert at the Madrid and look forward to seeing more shows here. Hope Shires comes back to KC again soon.

I truly enjoyed the experience at the Madrid featuring Amanda Shires. It was a great venue and intimate. I was recently introduced to her solo music and was so glad that I was able to see her live. She was even better live! Can't wait to see her again!

Amanda gave an EPIC performance. What a special treat to spend Election night with Amanda and her band. Getting to hear her new album Live was very special. It is certainly Grammy worthy! Honey Harper was a great opener for the show. Amanda is beautiful inside and out!

    Worst ever

    by K. D. on 8/19/19The Basement - Columbus

This was the worst music experience of my life. This venue (The Basement) claims to have capacity for 300 but only about twenty to thirty of those people would have a view of the actual stage due to several large columns that block eyesight. I attend shows very often at various venues of different sizes and know what is normal and what is not. I find it reprehensible that this place would charge what they do knowing that you are likely to be part of about 250 people that have a miserable experience and maybe 20 to 30 that get what they paid for. I left ( first time ever). Someone owes me money back.
