Excellent tv for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I reviewed a lot of other reviews before buying th TCL P series. So I have to say that the picture quality is excellent especially for the price point. I am using this as my gaming tv for my PlayStation 4. The games that are HDR look awesome and you don’t have to do anything for the tv to pick them up. Watching movies from amazon video look absolutely great as well. Yes you do have to mess with the settings but that is with any tv. All in all I would highly recommend this tv. Also the Roku is just an added bonus. Yes the tv speakers are not the best but who doesn’t use a sound bar these days. The frame is nice and has a very slim bezel. My tv stand was smaller than the legs when they were put on facing outwards. All you have to do is turn them around and they will do just fine. It only has 3 HDMI slots so that’s something to consider. My only reason to give 4 stars is its sound quality could be better. Hope this review helps others to make a decision on it.

Wow. Impressed. Kept this over a Samsung Qled!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saw the reviews around the web (rtings cnet etc) about the picture quality and local dimming. I was concerned about some of the panel uniformity issues customers had mentioned. I initially had purchased a Samsung Q6fn but was not overly impressed with the picture so I decided to take a risk and purchase the TCL. Glad I did. Granted the Samsung looks sleeker in design but the TCL's picture is clearly superior to the entry level Qled. The blacks are amazing - several other reviews mention this - and yes it only has 60hz refresh however the action looks great to me and the color is excellent right out of the box. The roku app is something I am enjoying much more than I expected as there is tons of free content and IT IS SO EASY TO USE! The smart phone app is easy to use as well and gives you advanced features as far as picture settings and browsing. After a week of having both TVs I returned the Samsung because honestly the picture did not even compare to the TCL at HALF the price. I am attaching some photos I took of a gray screen on the panel. There are some slight variations but nothing extreme. Watching HDR is amazing as the color and brightness are excellent. Definitely recommend this TV.

Couldn’t be happier with my New TV
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I purchased this TV from Best Buy They were offering another $100. Discount to the already Discounted price. So I used that added savings to purchase a 5 year Geek warranty for peace of mine. I loved everything the YouTube reviewers were raving about this TV. But about 15% of those customers were experiencing streaking lines on there new screen, and they sounded quite upset rightly so. It concerned me enough to postpone my purchase for several months. With further research into other brands there was none, not even the very high-end TV’s that had a solid 5 Star rating with no complaints. When Best Buy dropped the price again I saw my opportunity to purchase peace of mind. The good news is my TV looks so much better than any other TV I had bought up to this date, a 50” LG that’s 11 years old and is playing as well as the day I purchased it, and a Vizio about 6 years old that this TV replaced. The Vizio required a 10 to 15 min warm-up time to get a clean picture. I do believe this TV is above its current placement, and if any of you are concerned about those that have had a misfortune experience like I was purchase a Geek warranty. I am so glad I did! I believe this TV debuted at $849. Then it dropped to $699. Then to $599. Then I received an email from Best Buy that it was put on sale for $499. I thought and still think this TV is worth every bit of $849. So it was a no brained for me to take that last $100. Sales drop and move it to peace of mine. The Blacks are very deep, and the overall brightness this TV reaches is incredible. I would recommend this TV to my friends and Family.

Solid performance and features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We already owned a Roku Ultra before purchase and didn't care about Roku being "built in" to a TV. I wanted to spend under $800 and get a 55" TV, and get the best that I could for that price. Brand didn't matter. It DID have to fit on our stand however.... After a week of reading reviews and evaluating options, I bought this one. It wasn't on sale either. My conclusion is that you'd have to spend almost double to get anything significantly better in terms of screen performance. This is my first 4K TV. I wanted to get Dolby Vision, but that wasn't a deal breaker. I can't honestly tell the difference between 4K and 1080p from the distance we sit from the TV from our couch. The built in YouTube app within the TV actually supports Dolby Vision AND 5.1 sound which my Roku Ultra never could it seems. So that's an advantage (the Roku is being used in another room now). The built in Roku system doesn't seem to be any slower than the standalone Roku Ultra device which is $100 alone! I can't give it 5 perfect stars because the stand that comes with it is comically oversized... we had to "invert" the legs so that they face inward to fit on our tabletop. Also you have to set each input's options INDIVIDUALLY -- and then again if it's HDR and then again if it's Dolby Vision. Lots of tweaking COULD be done though if you care to do so, but that requires the app on a phone to get into advanced features... Also no numbers on the remote so changing channels is cumbersome. But most folks would have a cable box (we just use antenna). The optical audio out works well with our receiver but if you have HDMI audio return that should work too

Good TV for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are plenty of things to like about this TV. Image quality is pretty good, with excellent contrast thanks to local dimming. Colors look great. Roku software is easy to use and fast. Sound is adequate. The main fault with some units (mine included), is the backlight uniformity. Vertical banding slightly cheapens the experience. While mine is not as bad as others I've seen online, it's far below my Sony 49 X800 series (check pic). Another issue I have with it is that the plastic/metal case will vibrate at certain sound frequencies (usually lower frequencies). I'm not 100% sure if it's the speakers themselves or the way the case is built around them, but something rattles in there. Still, for the price it's a good TV, just be aware that getting a panel which doesn't exhibit signs of vertical banding is just luck.

$500?! Wow, what a deal.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We live in a rural area w/poor internet bandwidth; so, I’ve been skeptical to buy a smart TV until the price was right. Roku is def a game changer; HD antenna broadcasting to our set has been thrilling to see; and the learning curve to figure out the capabilities we now have in our house has been short and sweet! I am anxious to find the right Dolby Vision player to experience the full capability of video resolution this TV possesses. Equipped w/Dolby Vision AND HDR was my 2nd contributing factor for choosing TCL 6-series. Made sure to pick up a voltage-regulating, surge-protecting back-up power supply to insure longevity of this TV.

Best value, period.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been researching 4K HDR TVs for over a month before zeroing in on my choice. The TCL 55r615’s predecessor was consistently sold out which swayed me towards this model even more. I could not be more pleased with this purchase. Color, clarity, local dimming, HDR10, DolbyVision as well as the Roku platform all work very well together. I am really impressed with the picture quality and advanced color calibration that you can do through the Roku app. The fact that this TV so easily found and utilized my PC’s media server function is awesome. My PC can’t even fully render 4K video through its GPU but the TCL can render it perfectly while bypassing the PC’s video player and using its own. Most impressive. I received the TV earlier than promised from Best Buy. The price was as promised and as low as I could find through Best Buy versus other outlets. Overall experience was 9/10. Delivery company (sublet) was late but communicated about their tardiness. I highly recommend the TCL 55r615 (or 65r615) and purchasing it from Best Buy.

Premium TV With a Value Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I consider myself very brand-loyal, and have only purchased higher-end Samsungs in the past, so I was very hesitant when I first heard of TCL. “Who is TCL?” “Why should I care?” After thorough research, including researching last years “P Series” (which was equally impressive at the time), I decided to give the 6 Series a shot. Boy am I glad I did. Moving from a 55” 1080p Samsung to the 55” 4K HDR TCL is an incredible upgrade. Setup was a breeze. The initial setup walks you through everything, and I had no issues registering my Roku account, and getting my Netflix/Hulu/Amazon accounts up and running. The interface works great, although I won’t be using it much. I have the XBOX One X, so I do all of my streaming through that. I first tested out “Lost in Space” on Netflix in 4K HDR, figuring it would provide a good mix of Dark/Light scenes. Now I’m hooked on that show but that’s another story. Immediately I noticed the 96 Local Dimming Zones jumping into action. Having never had this on a TV, I can’t compare it to another product, but wow, is it incredible. In mixed scenes where there’s light/dark in the scene, I noticed bright lights and darks black as night. I’ve attached an image of a scene in “Lost in Space.” Note the black level in the bottom right corner. Next, I fired up Skyrim 4K HDR, and... wow... I didn’t know games could look this amazing. I’ve attached a picture of me walking around in Skyrim. Detail is amazing and colors are on point. I’ve had a few friends over, and they commented on how amazing this TV looks and performs. One has already bought one, and another will be soon. Do yourself a favor and snag a 6 Series, you’ll thank yourself later!

Q: QuestionAfter about 3 - 4 hours, my 6 series TCL turns off all by itself, everyday. Sounds like a mother board issue. All customer service did was reset to factory settings which did not help. Any others with this issue?
Asked by Dave.
- A:Answer I just bought my TCL 5 days ago and I am experiencing a random power off every day also. This causes me to fail online games and everyone looses!
Answered by Joshua
Q: QuestionAnyone experience the infamous banding issues with this TV?
Asked by Cheeku.
- A:Answer No banding on mine. I hesitated to buy it because of all the fuss about it that I saw online. This is actually a major reason I bought it at Best Buy - they stock the 615 locally so I could pick it up and exchange it if necessary, without having to ship it off... plus I got a great deal on the Best Buy exclusive version, the 615. The 615 just lacks the voice remote of the 617 you see everywhere else.

Q: QuestionIs this T.V. worth the extra $150 over the TCL 5 series?
Asked by CLH.
- A:Answer Absolutely. I purchased the TCL 5 series 55" and returned it after two weeks and purchased the TCL 6 series (55 inches). And right now, the difference in price between the TCL 5 and TCL 6 series at 55" is only $100. The difference is the screen. The 5 series sets - while good values- suffer a few significant shortcomings. First, the screen on the 5 series is lighted from the edges. You are never going to get really deep blacks with a screen that is backlighted from the edges. If you run a simple test (there are videos on YouTube) you will see a gray'ish background with areas that are brighter than others - usually at the corners. Running the same test on the six series you see a black screen. BLACK, not gray The other difference in brightness. And it ties in with black level. The five series can muster around 300 nits. The six series is 2-3x that, depending on how much of the screen. And finally - and perhaps biggest - is that the 6 series have local dimming (TCL calls it contrast control zones). This lets the TV adjust the brightness very specifically in small areas (I think it's 96 zones on the 55") Summing it up, for HDR (High Dynamic Range) to work effectively you need a screen that can get very dark and very bright in small, specific areas. The five series is a goof value for sure, but it simply can't get bright enough nor is it responsive enough to take advantage of HDR. It looks the same in HDR as SDR. Last - while TCL's sets (4, 5 and 6 series) all have a rather limited viewing angle, The 6 series is the best of the bunch on that score. My 5 series set if you moved away from directly in front of the TV even just a little bit the picture quickly degraded. This 6 series has a notably wider viewing angle sweet spot. It's not great. But it is certainly better.

You cannot pair Bluetooth devices such as wireless headphones. However, you can download the free Roku app on your smartphone or tablet to use voice search, voice control, and experience private listening.
