TALL HEIGHTS IN CONCERT:

Acoustic folk duo Tall Heights is the latest and greatest act to emerge from Boston’s underground music scene. With the perfect blend of harmonies, rich guitar strumming, and elegant cello, the band puts on a captivating performance that's sure to please new and diehard fans alike. Tim Harrington and Paul Wright complement each other’s voice on songs like “To Be Young” and “Eastern Standard Time” while they fill the room with the sweet sounds of their instruments. A promising pair, Tall Heights treats fans to plenty of original material alongside choice covers like the Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen a Face” on their mellow live tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Boston-based group Tall Heights was started in 2011 by Tim Harrington and Paul Wright who began penning songs and recording them in their apartment. They took to the streets soon after to busk around town and expose their music to passersby and potential new fans. They released their debut EP Rafters in 2011, which they recorded and produced themselves using a few mics and a computer. Tall Heights followed up in 2012 with the Running of the Bulls EP before hitting the road for a US tour that earned them a growing following. Since then they’ve released their widely acclaimed 2013 full-length debut Man of Stone, toured alongside Andrew Belle and Laura Marling, and wowed countless fans with their rustic folk at their atmospheric shows.

    Enchanting!

by mvlady on 7/15/18Old Whaling Church - Edgartown

I love these guys. The first time we heard them was at an open air venue and their voices came in loud and clear. Unfortunately the sound guy had the instruments too loud, especially the guitar. (This balance was worse for Ryan Montbleau who performed first.) Despite that I love their sharp lyrics and the cello, which offers such a strong emphasis. Tall Heights is terrific, love them!

First time seeing Tall Heights and Ryan Montbleau

by carollovesmusic on 7/13/18Old Whaling Church - Edgartown

I LOVE concerts at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. The atmosphere and early evening lighting is amazing. Including the acoustics. But this was a near total miss this time around. The sound engineering was completely off, and we could barely hear any of the lyrics and much of the music of Tall Heights sounded muddled, thick and too loud. The acoustics in the church are very live and very bright and this concert was completely overamplified. The best piece of the show was their acoustic version of "Bird on a Wire." The entire show could have been performed unplugged. What a complete miss for these very experienced performers! Didn't anyone do a sound check? As a performer and songwriter myself, I know that sound checks are crucial before a show. Also found their music somewhat repetitive in style and form. I LOVED Ryan Montbleau. Similiar problems with acoustics, but since he performed solo, not as bad. I will definitely see him again.

    Hauntingly beautiful music!

by StephMOreau on 2/16/16Mercury Lounge - New York

It was 9 degrees out on the streets of the Lower East Village, but Tim Harrington and Paul Wright warmed up the Mercury Lounge quickly. The two were joined by Paul Dumas (percussion) and Oliver Hill (keys) for songs off their new EP, Holding On, Holding Out for a fuller sound. Like any Tall Heights show, the evening was filled with cheeky banter from the boys and hauntingly beautiful music. The unplugged version of Heirloom was a major highlight, showcasing the vocal talents of Harrington and Wright, and silencing a crowd of 250 patrons. Overall, a perfect score of a night!

    Simply amazing

    by C1J2Y on 10/8/15The Sinclair - Cambridge

Two quirky personalities blend together perfectly for the most beautiful, artistic portrayal of music. The orchestra accompaniment took what is normally an unforgettable musical experience to an entirely different level. Each song that was played with the orchestra got better and better, and I was amazed to learn that the conductor of the youth orchestra had done his own arrangement of the music. Truly a magical experience - I found myself with chills on more than one occasion. This band is special, and the orchestra they shared the stage with made it that much more special.

New songs, fuller sound, same impressive talent

by StephMOreau on 4/28/15Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Tall Heights hit the stage Saturday night and treated the crowd to a mix of fan favorites and brand new songs. To create an even fuller sound, Tim and Paul were accompanied by Eric Jones and Liz Vaughan for a number of songs. The guys are definitely stepping outside of their comfort zone with their song writing and are being met with success. As usual, they entertained the crowd with anecdotes about song inspiration and stories from the road. I also walked away from the night with an amazing one-of-a-kind painting, courtesy of Tim's talents, with Tall Heights song lyrics on it. I'm currently deciding on the perfect spot to hang it.
