There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
The most difficult part about replacing the lock was that the previous lock used a smaller sized hole, so I had to expand the existing hole. This took me several hours to get right. (It would not have been a problem with a more recent lock or door, which use this lock's standard size.) Once the hole was in place, the lock was quick and easy to install. Changing the combination requires following the instructions carefully (you can't wing it), but is not difficult. The operation of the lock feels solid and satisfying. We can now go out of the house and lock up without having to wonder if other people remembered to take their key.
Black Friday was the push to finally buy these...couldn't pass up such a good deal; they are completely worth it.
First, of note, there is only a single key. No issue for me as I took all three to the locksmith and for $15 got them all keyed identically, with two spare keys thrown in, all for $15. Just makes life so much easier when the same key works for all the locks (in case of failure). Oh, and the locksmith not only recommended this lock, but retailed them for just under $250. These are rated a couple of steps above basic home locks, NOT the absolute best money can buy, but then you would be looking at double the price and more for more commercial grade locks.
Install was simple and straight forward, took less than 15 minutes from finding the tools to putting them back, all in.
I specifically got the one with the thumb turn and no auto lock; I prefer the manual aspect - in the event there were a failure, I would not want to be merrily ignorant and unintentionally leaving my doors unlocked.
First thing to do is to reset password, seriously, according to my locksmith most folks skip this step.
Operation is simple. Upon departing, punch in code, turn knob to left to engage lock. Upon arrival, punch in code, turn knob to right to disengage. Locking knob free spins until code is punched in, an added feature that makes forced entry that much more difficult, and extends battery life as they are not powering the tumbler, to electronically engage or disengage the deadbolt (again, according to my locksmith). Keypad is backlit, super handy in the dark.
My only complaint is that they are a bit on the bulky side, aesthetically. That said, I am sure if I wanted to pay double or triple the price, this minor issue could be addressed; I am not.
If you think the time is right to upgrade or replace your locks, I would highly recommend this model for cost, functionality and ease of use. But do consider visiting the locksmith first so you can have all your locks keyed identically (note: not all locks will match the pin configuration, if retaining old locks, stick to the same brand as this, or double check that rekeying is an option) - minor cost for huge convenience.
Honestly, I have not availed myself of some of the higher grade features (guest codes etc.), and cannot comment on battery, but so far, we are thrilled with this upgrade, especially when arriving home with armloads of groceries.
When it is very cold (canadian winters) the lock also sometimes fails but overall its a great lock, just wish we could have a lifetime warrenty with it for the price.
This all changed this past weekend. I got up the courage to enlarge the holes on our door so I could swap out the deadbolt for this glorious piece of technology. The instructions were fine, the only confusion was the back plate that is inside the house has a cam that must be vertical or the lock will not work.
Once it was installed, the programming was very straight forward and easy to do. You can have 19 different user codes which can be disabled at any time. The keypad DOES light up when you push a key which is great for when you run late and forget to leave the outside light on.
The action on this lock is a neat idea as well. You have to manually turn the deadbolt to lock and unlock (reviews I have read say this helps prolong the battery life) If the keypad is not engaged, this knob spins freely. To lock, you just have to push the Schlage button, which engages the knob and allows you to lock the door. To unlock, key in your code to engage it, then twist to unlock, too easy.
Over all I am very happy with this and wish I had gotten one long ago. It is a heavy well built lock that has a bunch of great reviews around the web.
The only negative thing I can say is that it only comes with one key. I wish it had two, but I can get another cut easily.

Les recomiendo utilizar los tutoriales disponible en youtube. Tiempo de instalación 20 min.
When it came to installing a lock for our studio door we went back to the Schlage because of its price and reliability. The new lock has had some minor improvements from the original we bought a few years ago. These revisions make installation easier with simple inexpensive additions to the original internal design.
As I had mentioned, installation is easy. The lock comes with two bolt length options. The most significant change to our old lock was the wire that feeds from the front keypad to the rear panel. With the old lock you had a thin wire with a TINY cap that pressed onto a pin on a circuit board on the back. It was incredibly fiddly when you consider that the sprung fastened cap was only about 0.08 inches or 2mm in diameter. In this new lock, it was a simple plastic plug that you just press in and it snaps into place. Sounds trivial but it removed minutes of frustration. After the basic assembly as shown in the first video on the amazon page, you just plug in the included 9 volt battery and follow simple instructions in the manual to program your lock.
One nice thing I really like about this lock is that the deadbolt uses a clutch to engage the handle. You use the keypad to engage the clutch that lets the deadbolt work. After a few seconds the clutch is automatically disengaged and the latch spins freely.
This makes it fairly tamper proof. In some ways it’s safer than our remote lock because there is less chance of someone trying to hack the lock remotely with some kind of wifi connection. We had our previous one for about five years and still use it on a daily basis. So I can tell you this lock is dependable. If you change the battery once a year you will probably never have to worry about it going flat. So far, I have replaced the battery on the old one every 12 to 18 months regardless of capacity and have used the old one for various electronic devices. These locks can also be opened with a regular key. Two are provided. We keep ours safe in a location where we can retrieve one in an emergency.
Originally we bought this lock after a key broke in our old fashioned one. We had to call out a locksmith who spent three hours trying to drill out the old lock. It made a lot of noise, caused us (and our neighbors) a lot of frustration and then (to add insult to injury) cost us almost $300. That’s the price of three of these locks. So we bought this lock and we are so glad we did. It makes life so much easier not having to carry keys around. The keypad is illuminated and easy to use in the dark. You never have to fumble looking for keys. It’s a great addition to our garage and studio because of the number of times you go to the garage on some chore only to find the keys are back at the house. With the studio which is on a wing of the house we used to leave it unlocked because the frustration of going back and forth for keys seemed like a lot of hassle.
We really like these locks. You can have several codes. Each member of our family has their own pin. We gave our sister in law one so they could crash even if we aren’t home. And we can create one on a whim should we have contractors or pet sitters visiting when we are away.
When they first came out they were about 50% more expensive but they’re affordable now and I can’t recommend them enough.
The only problem you might have with this lock is if you pull to close it really helps to have a second handle to grip and hold the door shut while you turn the handle. The twist knob on the deadbolt is not the easiest to grip and pull strongly, especially while twisting at the same time. For the garage and studio door we bought a cheap dummy knob to hold onto for this reason. That does the trick quit nicely.

I've since installed a bronze and a chrome Schlage BE365VCAM619 Camelot Keypad Deadbolt (manually-operated keypad locks), which are super sturdy and a snap to install (took under a minute). Hefty metal all around, including the entire bolt chamber.
Interesting feature of the outside lock knob is that it freely spins around in either direction (so it can't be forced open) until the right code has been entered, then it engages (with beep & green light flash) so you can turn the actual lock. Accordingly, to lock from the outside, press the Schlage logo button at the top, then turn the knob. From the inside, it's the usual 11 / 1 O'clock knob turn (always engaged).
This with keyless entry cars now lets my wife and me never have to worry about remembering, carrying, or digging for a key ever again, especially with our hands full with the kids & assorted bags/groceries!
Pro:
1. MUCH sturdier in heft and mounting than Kwikset, which felt like a toy in comparison
2. Very easy to install
3. 10 individual number buttons vs Kwikset's 5
4. Long-lasting 9V battery (included), especially since lock is manually turned
5. Stores up to 19 user codes at once (you can delete specific ones, all, or reset all to factory default). Each house member can use a code of his/her liking, and temporary codes can be made for workers, friends, etc.
Con:
1. No auto-lock feature like Kwikset
Neutral:
1. Had to bring them to a locksmith to match my existing keys (optional; comes with 2 keys each)
2. Only 4 digit lock codes (but then so are most ATM pins & combo locks)
