I'm not a great runner by any stretch, but I do my homework and work hard so I got up to distances requiring fuel. It's been a bit of a journey trying to get something that'll sit right with my funny stomach and medical (insert explitive of your choice here). Spotted this that Scott Jurek worked on and decided to give it a go.

Used this one for the first time on my last run of the year today. 20 miles, one pouch every 5 miles, 3 pouches total. Coincidentally today was the first 20 mile run that actually went according to plan with me running when I should and no extra walking in there! Now, I know part of that was planning and adaptation and all, but the fact that the run food was good and didn't upset my stomach definitely helped.

Honestly, at mile 5 when I broke out the packet, I was really kind of psyched. This stuff has been sitting on my counter all week and I was desperately curious to try it out! And it absolutely hit the spot. For me, Gu gells are utterly disgusting and the RX bars are good but dense. These are sweet but not cloying, rich but not overly heavy, full of potassium.

One caveat: the first one I tried to open was not easy! Cold fingers, mittens, and a slick round cap were tough the first time. Second and third times, a lot easier.

Anyways. I've re-ordered and will continue to use this. It's a bit pricy but I only eat it once a week, on long run days, so.

Strongly recommend. Might also be good as a recovery thing, or a snack on a long hike.

As a runner, I was looking for a carb snack for my long runs that was both organic and great tasting. This definitely hit those two points on the head as I absolutely loved the banana/mango/coconut flavor. However, I didn't realize before purchasing that each of these 3oz packages were only 1 serving each with only 15g or so of carbs. Compared to Gu's, these were obviously much bigger to carry and had less macronutrients. As a stickler for bargains, I found similar organic fruit purees w/more carbs and at a cheaper price in the baby food aisle of my commissary.

These are great and very easy on the stomach. After trying the sweet potato and sea salt on training runs I used them for a 120 mile race and they worked great. Sweet potatoes seem to be very easy to digest and of course salt is always good. I was amazed at how they did not unsettle my stomach at all and gave me considerable energy that lasted longer than a Gel. It is hard to eat only gels and other sugary foods when running but most solid foods can unsettle or turn my stomach so I am very glad to have found these and will use them again. The only drawback is that they are heavy so I leave them in drop bags for races so I don't have to carry too many at one time. I highly recommend them for endurance activities though everyone's stomach is different.

Buyer beware! Received product as promised however, expiration date is just in a couple of days from this month. Product is not fresh and does not taste like it should. The seller should indicate when this was expiring!!

The taste is refreshing and i did not have any stomach issues to speak of. I took 4 of those over the course of a 22 hour race.

Now, as you might know, during a long distance race you should check the color of urine to make sure you are on top of your hydration.
Beet juice however gives urine a red color, almost blood like at times. If you do not know this, you will freak out.

I did know this however, but it did not help of course in monitoring how i was doing hydration wise in the race. For races up to 50k i would use it, but not longer.

I really like it!!! I knew I needed something like this (savory and high sodium) so I ignored the majority of the negative reviews here. It's tastes GOOD. Like pizza. I ate one on a 3 hour bike ride and it was easy to open (I broke the cap seal before my ride started), easy to store, and easy to eat while riding. The flavor is well rounded-- lots of herbs you can taste. I do wish it was cheaper but I will buy again. If you want some savory fuel for endurance sports, you need to try this!

I'm not sure why I thought pizza flavored gel would taste good but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I liked the idea of whole-food organic fuel but I could not stomach the taste. It tastes like salty pizza sauce.
That said, that is essentially how they are advertised, so I still give it 2 stars even though I won't be using the rest of the product. And if I've learned anything from ultra running its that what doesn't work for one might be perfect for someone else.

I am a long distance runner and am always on the hunt for savory, easy-to-consume snacks. I dislike sweets and was very happy to find this. The taste is strong but delicious: baked sweet potato, rich olive oil, a good hit of salt. It goes down easy, is easy to digest, and, married with a.double espresso cliff shot, provides just the right amount of light but quality fuel to keep me going for long training runs.
