Poor built quality
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased a Prestige 15 and the back of the screen started to come off with less than 6 months of use (I found out later that it is a recurring problem with MSI laptops). I'm living abroad and the guarantee cannot be activated in my country. Totally disappointed with MSI, I don't recommend it to anyone.

Great laptop - high price
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wonderful laptop. The u series 6 core/12 thread cpu is no slouch, and handles everything I have thrown at it. I have played some games, done some video editing, and basic office task type work. No significant issues overall. The best part is the upgradeability of some parts. I have 64GB RAM (2x32) and 2, 512GB nvme SSDs. I love a laptop that lets me add things to it. A few issues: 1. The screen brightness likes to just keep changing to full brightness in Windows 2. Sleep doesnt seem to want to work in Windows, goes to hibernate and then start up again. 3. The battery life is significantly less than the 16 hour advert. I would bet on maybe 6 unless you aren't working on it all day. Bonus: Ubuntu works like a charm. My second drive boots to Ubuntu 20.04, and it runs without any issues I have noted thus far other than some challenges with the nvidia GPU. If you just go with the iGPU in Linux you'd likely have a flawless experience. I stop short of strongly recommending it due to the high price. Otherwise, I would say pick it up today!

Love it. Light, fast, good-looking
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MSI Prestige 15, UHD screen, 16GB RAM, 512GB capacity, Nvidia 1650 Max Q Consider this: If you buy the FHD (1080p) version, you'll get better battery life, and the laptop will generate less heat when under heavy load. The MSI Prestige 15 is an ultrabook. It's lightweight and thin, so there will be trade-offs regarding some of the complaints people have about this device. Overall, this laptop is impressive. It's got more input/output ports than most other ultrabooks (it even has two thunderbolt 3 ports). After trying 5 different premium ultrabooks, I'm sticking with the MSI Prestige 15. Fan noise - Yes, there will be noise when using this laptop under heavy load (gaming/video rendering/heavy multitasking). Not an issue with everyday use. This is normal for any ultrabook. When not under heavy load, the fans are either off or barely audible, in a quiet room. It's easy to toggle different power settings with the touch of a button. Heat - This laptop gets warm when under heavy load. Again, this is an ultrabook, so the cooling solution isn't going to be as efficient as a thicker laptop. Note: the i7-10710U Intel processor will run cooler than the i7-9750H, a common alternative in high-end ultrabooks. Unlike some ultrabooks, RAM on this device can be expanded beyond 16GB (up to 64). There's also an extra port for expanded capacity (mine came with 512GB). Build quality - The body is not as rigid (it's somewhat bendable) as I would like. Not because it's cheap, but because it's so thin and light. If they made this 1lb heavier with a thicker chassis, I would be happy. Be careful when traveling with this device. Performance - Adobe Premiere ran no problem on this laptop. Rendering a 7-minute 1080p@30fps video using a 2-pass VBR, 50 mbit video quality, and maxed depth took about 25 minutes. Using CBR, the same video took 3-4 minutes. - Gaming: The MSI Prestige 15 will run Starcraft 2, ultra settings, 4K @ 60fps without trouble - World of Warcraft, ultra, 4K @ 30fps. Change it to 1080p/ultra and it'll run past 60fps. - It will struggle with modern AAA games when set to ultra. Whatevs, thunderbolt 3 ports can hook this laptop up to an external GPU. Problem solved. The mouse pad is super smooth. I also dig the keyboard. Sound - I've heard better speakers, but this will suffice.

PowerHouse
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In search of a new laptop, it was difficult to find anything close to what I wanted at a reasonable price. I bought this model because it gave me a good base to work from. Upgraded the machine to Windows Professional, 64 GB ram, and 2TB SSD with original SSD now in the second slot. Not a gaming machine, but a work powerhouse for a total investment of ~$2200. It gets used in an environment where it can be plugged in 99% of the time, with enough battery capability to go mobile to meetings. If you don't like the idea of your laptop getting hot in your lap, then this is not the one for you. I wasn't expecting the level of thermal output, but quickly solved it by using a comfortable cooling stand. This new machine runs rings around my 3 yr old ASUS. The only drawback I notice is that it could have used a third USB-A port, and a third Thunderbolt port. Running this laptop in conjunction with dual 4k monitors is more pixel real-estate than I could have ever dreamed possible. For me, the pro's far outweigh the con's.

MSI has converted this lifelong Dell guy!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm 36 and I've owned Dell desktops and laptops since I got my first Dell desktop for Christmas as a high school junior in 2001. At the time, it was top of the line and it actually carried me through until I finished college in 2008 and shortly thereafter. In 2008, laptops were taking over, so I decided to go with Dell due to my great experience. Since 2008, I've owned 2 Dell laptops that worked fine and I was happy with them (also easy to upgrade). Now in 2020, I was looking for something that could really withstand obsolescence. Instead of going for an i-3 with 8GB RAM and a factory video card, I wanted something I could have for more than just a few years at a time. I also record and master my own music. Enter the MSI Prestige. HEX core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1650 graphics card... this guy is blazing fast! The wireless card is amazing as well! My home office is in the basement and my router is upstairs and speedtest is showing 350mbps. As others have mentioned, it does run hot, so I decided to buy a laptop fan for it to sit on and have it constantly running, whether I'm browsing the net, recording music, or playing games on Steam. So you'll want to get one (mine was $20 and keeps it nice and cool with no issues). Now, if you're a hardcore gamer, you're going to want a better graphics card. This one definitely suits my needs as the games I play aren't super graphics-intensive. But from what I've read, the GTX 1650 will hold it's own for most things, but for the latest and greatest games, you're going to want to upgrade that. The build is solid. Nothing plastic about this machine. It's got weight to it, but I'll take it over a piece of plastic any day if it means longevity. Honestly, the Dells I was looking at in this price range just didn't seem to cover everything I was looking for in a major laptop purchase. I get so much more out of the MSI for the money. Plus, it's not goofy looking like most "gaming machines" but the Prestige is also MSI's foray into the "business computing" world. But do a search for the Dell G-Series gaming laptops, then compare them to the MSI Prestige and you'll see one looks like a toy, the other you could take into the office no problem. While I think this is my laptop for the foreseeable future, I think I'm an MSI convert. I think this machine is better built, looks better, and performs at a higher level (for the money) than the Dells I was also considering. I hope this review helps anyone considering this one!

Impressive Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for the everything laptop. My requirements were that it had to be fast, have a long battery life, have an amazing screen, and thin enough to travel with. The MSI Prestige was the only laptop that met all of my requirements and $1k less than a macbook which I was highly considering. The laptop lasts at least for 10 hours when set to super battery mode, and it flies on every game I have thrown at it under high performance mode. I am currently playing Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order at Epic graphics settings with 40 FPS. I did undervolt the laptop to stop it from throttling at high temps. I am looking to own this for at least 4 years before upgrading again. I would highly recommend this laptop!

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The prestige 15 s 4k screen is amazing especially when you are playing light games at 4k 45 fps like csgo or rocket league and for more demanding games like gta 5 or rb6 or even fallout 76 you can get 60 fps on high to ultra settings (just remember vsync because the 4k screen tears a lot when down sampling to 1080p) but all together the build quality battery life amazing track pad are all top notch plus with 2 thunderbolt 3 ports for charging or hooking up to egpu for more power are a great convenience and you can get a replacement charger at any store. its a grate competitor to a dell xps or mac book pro at half the price my only downside are it runs hot (it is a thin and light with a 1650) and it only comes with 500g m.2ssd (there is another slot to add a second though) i would highly recommend this laptop for anyone.

Great laptop for the price!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has great performance and a beautiful screen for the price. It also looks very sleek and is very thin and light despite the powerful performance. It checks all the boxes for me and is the best combination of performance, design, battery life, and price.

Q: QuestionWill there be an upgraded version at BestBuy (32gb/64gb Memory / 1tb/2tb ssd )? Or is Best Buy / Geek Squad capable of providing and upgrade option with purchase?
Asked by Des1gn.
- A:Answer I originally selected this machine exactly because it was fully up-gradable. I had planned to have Geek Squad do the upgrade, but the the COVID non-sense came along. I ended up doing the work myself. Now the machine is Windows Pro, 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD primary, and 512GB SSD in the secondary slot.
