Graphics: Handheld 5/5 , docked 4/5
Gameplay: 4/5
Replayability: 5/5
Overall Value: 4/5
Pros: Handheld on the go sports, great game overall
Cons: Download time/size
I was a little sceptical buying this game based off some of the reviews i was reading. My biggest concern was the size of the game and the quality of game play compared to xbox or ps4. After playing the game for about a week now i can say with confidence this is a great game amd worth the money.
Game Size: yes, its very large and yes it did take an hour to download before I could play. I have had to wait longer on downloading xbox games, i think waiting for a game to download an hour or two has become a standard. That is not enough to deter me from buying this game.
I bought an additional memory card just for this game. Yes, it makes this game more expensive. But lets be real, at somr point you will need additional memory cards for your switch, that is inevitable. I have always wanted a legitamite sports game handheld and on the go. This finally fulfills a long time want of mine and was able to over look the download time and extra memory for that reason.
The game play is amazing, grapics on the go are sweet, looks crisp, movement is clean and the gameplay is great. I could not tell much of a difference betweem the switch version and my xbox version. I cant wait to see what sports game on the switch has in store for us in the future, this is an amazing start.

Let's get the positive stuff out in the open first, this is a great game. All the gameplay, on-court mechanics work like you'd expect...this is truly NBA 2k in your pocket, not your grampa's old iOS port touchscreen mess. In terms of graphics, the difference from the console version to the Switch version is minimal due to the much smaller screen. Things still look fairly sharp and acceptable. A few of the games details have of course been lost due to the difference in raw power of your everyday console, so don't expect to see the sweat dripping from your player's faces, but they made sure the drop in in-game graphics quality is hardly noticeable when your running up and down the court constantly.
Now for the negatives:
1a. Requirement for an SD card. Yes it is on the game cover but forcing people to have to invest in additional storage to make up for poor game developer choices is bad form. They could have easily opted for a higher capacity switch game cartridge which could have housed the game, additional content and done away the "additional storage" requirement all together. If this was a way to increase their margins on the game, that would be just horrible. More on this storage debacle below.
1b. As soon as you launch the game, it asks you to download a whooping +16GB update file...for any switch owner that plans to do more than play 2K and not play any other game...this is fine, but if I was thinking "at least now I have extra storage for other games on my sd card too...you've got another thing coming...2K18 is here to make short work of your sd card's precious gigabytes.
1c. Game saves are gigantic 5GBs on a 32GB console? No wonder a microSD card is required. Seems like someone dropped the basket-"ball" (had to do it haha) during the development phase of this game and just didn't care about the efficiency of their game save system. Again, kiss that additional storage you thought you had for other games goodbye.
2. The need for the game to be always connected to the 2K servers practically cripples the game in terms of why people buy 2K games. It practically renders the MyCareer unplayable if you're on the go which is the Switch's main selling point, and don't even think of letting your Switch go into sleep mode in the middle of a game in your MyCareer, because guess what, now your game is over because the connection to the server is broken. Rather than just limit what you can do in MyCareer while you're in let's call it "Offline-mode" and allow you to continue with the core of what we've come to expect what MyCareer mode is, let alone let you finish an in-progress game, it decides that "Heyyy you probably don't want to play 2K anymore because you've taken 2 steps out of the vicinity of an available WiFi connection let me end that game for you.". Sure you can start a separate game for offline play, but guess what...that's another 5GB chunk out of your storage...again...man this game is a "ball hog" when it comes to storage, and is staring to seem like the needy partner in this relationship when it comes to having to be always connected. Like, bro sometimes I want to take a walk on my own outside and pretend like I'm playing basketball outside on my Nintendo Switch...is that too much to ask?
So to sum up this a a true 2K basketball game, ruined only by its poor implementation and execution on the Switch, so buy this game at your own risk.

Full Blown NBA 2k 18 on the go!

Full Blown NBA 2k 18 on the Switch. You'll be real surprised on how well this game looks and runs on the switch... Even at a native 720p, this game looks awesome, players are well animated. Space requirements arnt a Issue for me. AS long as we get great 3rd Party support like this, an 128GB micro SD Card can go a long way for anyone. I play this Game in all of the Switch modes, Portable, Tabletop, and Docked. In Docked mode I play it on a Big Screen 4k TV and a Gaming Monitor. Yes it's 720p Native Game. Looks totally awesome to me. Some Critics/Gamers need to relize that this a full Blown X86 Desktop/Console Game running on a Mobile Chipset, That alone is a major Accomplishment and Feat. The Game isn't perfect, there are a few tiny glitches in the Cutscenes in between Quarters. However no glitches or slow downs during Gameplay. the Tiny glitches don't take out from the gameplay. Yes 30fps for a 2k game, veteran 2k Gamers will notice, But will adapt to it more than likely, It's a Stable smooth 30fps during Gameplay. In handheld and tabletop mode, the game is a little bit more sharper due to the 6.2 high quality 720p native Screen. In no way that I found that this game was blurry in Docked mode. I would have loved if this game ran at 60fps, Who knows whats in store in the future as devs continue to explore/optimize for the switch hardware, it's not even a year yet as of this review.. Overall I totally reccomend NBA 2k18 for the switch for those that either want it on the go or don't have it for the other systems... Physical Version a total amount of 19.26GB total is needed, that's 3gb of Internal Switch Space for the Save File and 16GB on the SD Card, thats with the physical version, just wanted to put that out there. Totally reccomend the Gamers Club from Best Buy also, Thanks Best Buy...

I preordered this game back in July and my son couldn't wait for it. Although it was pushed back from September to October. My son was upset about that. He enjoys this game very much o the switch. Although at first he had to wait about 2 hours for the downloaded content he got from the preorder. Graphics look modern and clear. He is having lots of fun with it.

There are some negative reviews out there, but so far It has been a good experience. Graphics when undocked look good, but things don't look as good when blown up on a larger TV, but still good enough. There seems to be a little more delay on input from my controller to reaction on the screen. But the amount of content, and options is insane for a game such as this on a system that has the ability to be portable. If you like Basketball, don't hesitate. It is a good game, with good graphics when taking into account the system.

Very good game in general but surprisingly better than I thought for the switch. Obviously graphics aren't the best but they are better than expected for any portable system. When I play it on the TV it looks like PS3 graphics. Overall it is a good game for the switch.

Honestly the best part is being able to play 2K18 on the go... The graphics don't come near PS4 or XBOX but gameplay on handheld switch or while docked are still nice. MEMORY CARD NEEDED FOR DOWNLOAD... and be prepared to wait @ least an HOUR for the game to download.
