Fine if you use Google Voice/Hangouts
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because I am almost exclusively on wifi, so I do not even come close to using 1G a month. I decided that since the price for 1 year of service was cheaper than one month with most companies, it was worth a try. Things to know: If you want to keep your old cell phone number it costs extra. So I chose not to keep my old number. FreedomPop requires you to use their app for making phone calls and texting. The app sucks. Most of the time, it will not even open -- just shows that it is endlessly loading. I did use it once to call a friend. There was an awful sound/noise interference/echoing, plus we were disconnected or I lost the ability to hear her several times. The solution is to get a free phone number from Google Voice and use Google Voice/Hangouts/and Hangouts Dialer for all calls and texts instead of the phone number and app provided by FreedomPop. It probably uses some small amount of data that way but there have been no technical or quality issues to deal with. (I have 12 days left in this month and still have 936 MB left, so I'm not concerned.) I am glad I did not pay to keep my old number, only to not be able to use it due to the malfunctioning crappy Freedompop app. I think if you want to keep your old number it would be smarter to pay to port it to Google Voice instead. I had no issues with installing the SIM. My LG G6 is both GSM and CDMA. Because I did not pay for transferring my phone number, I did not have to provide my credit card number so I don't anticipate any way to be billed for charges I did not authorize or for more data that I don't want like some people have complained about.

Great Prepaid Card
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Freedom pop prepaid card through bestbuy.com, received it on time and have been using it for about a month. It serves the purpose well for under 5$ per month. The only catch is, freedom pop is VOIP based which means you need to install an app and use it to make/receive calls or messages. The only reason I didnt give 5 star is, the plan includes 1 GB data per month and unlimited calling/texting but what I noticed is, data is consumed when on call/text which makes me wonder if I hit 1 GB data on any given month, will I have the ability to continue making calls/text which is supposed to be unlimited.

Decent quality with some connectivity problems
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The data for that price is not bad. However, the line does not connect sometimes and the voice quality is not the best several times. The app used is second class too.

Okay
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro:Good price, 12 months with this price is hot! Con:its voip, not normal cellphone line. Eventually, Phone call and text are through an app. Hardest company to contact to customer service. If you want faster, extra charge on monthly bill. Getting response via email takes 48hours. Horrible port in process, I spent 2 weeks to make correction on port in.

Great for non-streamers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the FreedomPop free service previously for an old work phone. It worked great for what I needed it for. I didn't know about this 12 month prepaid plan otherwise I would have tried it out. So when it came time for me to pick up a cell phone + plan for my dad, I jumped on this. I've paired up this plan with a Moto G5S Plus. An affordable unlocked phone with 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM. The phone itself is quite responsive, and I figure will keep him running for a while as apps demand more resources. FreedomPop is served by AT&T in my area and it's been great. I went into the settings to make sure to notify my dad when he approaches 900 MB and turn off data as it gets closer to 1 GB. It's enough to get his emails and run some apps. He's not going to be streaming any content and if he is, he can do it over wifi when he's home. I was however, slightly frustrated with the setup process. The setup is all done online, which isn't a problem. The problem was finding an available phone number to choose from. I searched all the area codes near me and across the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. None were available at the time, so I ended up with a phone number in Nevada. I'm sure I can change it later, but it was a frustrating part of the experience. I believe over time that FreedomPop purchases blocks of phone numbers as they become available, but at the time I couldn't find one easily. If this is still around when my kids need phones, I'll likely turn to this plan.

Fast S+H,GREAT Price! Horrible Freedompop Service!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best Buy = ZERO Complaints so far. FreedomPop =1000 Complaints so far! It's been over a week since I got this sim card. I activated the same day it came, Sat. 9/1. As of today, 9/10 I still have ZERO Cell Service from FreedomPop!! Their customer service and tech support are the absolute WORST EVER! I've done everything they've told me to do, 5 X Now! Each time a different rep had me do something different claiming the previous rep gave me the wrong setup info. The site says the sim is activated but again, I STILL HAVE NO CELL SERVICE! No talk, No text, No data! Just 2 different FreedomPop apps loaded on my phone, and Neither of them work! (Because the Reps and Tech Support can't decide which one is correct for my phone/area!) If I ever get the service working I certainly hope it's better than the service and support I've received so far!

1 yr Freedom pop sim
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good value for one year. Not able to port to my last 1 year plan. Plan on their site is expensive . Using as a stand by service. Would not recommend as a main carrier for your phone service. Customer service for sales only picks up. Technical support never answers. So no help if you have any issues with service. Website forum support they ask you to go to is horrible and does not answer any query. If you raise a support ticket which I found out a very round about way, I got a response after more than a month and they closed without answering my question.

Great Plan
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Note that this plan is good for you only if: 1. You use WiFi mostly and need LTE minimally (for apps, web, games etc). The monthly limit is 1GB LTE data, which is enough if you use it only for making VoIP calls. 2. You install their app for phone calls and texts. If the above don't apply to you, don't bother with this plan. This plan uses the AT&T network, and if you are in an area with good AT&T signal you are good to go.

Q: QuestionDoes the sim card assign you a number?
Asked by Kay.
- A:Answer FreedomPop will give you a new cell phone number unless you pay to port your old one. If you want to keep your old number, I would recommend porting it to Google Voice instead and just never using the FreedomPop number because the app FreedomPop requires for texting and calls is virtually nonfunctional. From the advice I read, most people with FreedomPop seem to use Google Voice/Hangouts/Hangouts dialer -- it is working fine for me and is a free workaround.

Q: QuestionDoes this annual plan include voicemail & mms texting?
Asked by Justin.
- A:Answer Freedompop plans are data only GSM SIM plans despite claims of "talk and txt" they are only with their VOIP calling over the internet. You can also use Hangouts with Google Voice but those mins (data) aren't ignored like the Freedompop included "200mins" or "unlimited" or whatever they claim are included. Back in 2018 a website ( https://bestmvno.com/freedompop/freedompop-launches-best-buy-exclusives/ ) claims that FP claims that MMS was included, but with recent surprise changes I've had on their CDMA plans (they are all gone, Sprint is done) I wouldn't be surprised if the MMS was an extra fee like it was when offered on CDMA. It's a good cheap plan if you get used to the data only limitations, and have WiFi around at home because 500MB or 1GB isn't much. Best to use the LTE/4g/HSPA in the car and try to hop on Wifi at every shop you visit.

Q: QuestionI see that FreedomPop is changing its plan structure on its website. What is the future of current and new activations of this "legacy" plan?
Asked by Querious.
- A:Answer I just recently activated a FreedomPop SIM I had purchased at BestBuy. According to everything I have been told by FreedomPop representatives after activation you can then upgrade to the new SIM which allows you to use the phone's native calling and messaging apps instead of the FreedomPop app. Whichever plan was on the SIM you purchased will be transferred over to the new upgraded SIM. Technical support has actually improved since FreedomPop was bought by Red Pocket. There is now a chat option for technical support as well as voice call technical support.

Q: QuestionIs this a real phone activation or does it require wifi to use
Asked by Nita.
- A:Answer It does not require WiFi. But the technology is VoIP. You must use the FreedomPop app for making and receiving calls, not your phones native app. But calls do not count toward your data limit.

Q: QuestionI just wanted to confirm that there is no time frame within which I have to activate the FP plan, so I can just hang on to the FP SIM and not activate it until the plan with my current phone company ends, at which point the 12 month countdown begins?
Asked by giantmarmot.
- A:Answer Yes, usage doesn't start until you activate the sim. I bought this sim over a year ago $49.99, liked it and bought on sale for $39.99 before my usage was up. Unlimited time limit, who knows.

Q: Questioncan I downgrade to free plan with this 19.00 card from best buy
Asked by joe.
- A:Answer No. You would need a different SIM Card to move to the Free Plan. I recommend the SIM Card For the 12 months with 1 GB per month Plan only. After 12 months it will renew at $60. For another 12 months. I figure that’s a bargain at $5.00 per month. I love mine. But it does require that a Credit Card is on file with them. That’s to cover them, if you exceed the 1 GB in a given month. But, in the past I have never exceeded the 1 GB in a month. Buy it, you will love it.

Q: QuestionWill freedom pop work with a recently non active ttacfone
Asked by max.
- A:Answer Your Tracfone would first have to be unlocked (by Tracfone). Search "Tracfone unlocking policy" for more information about that. Freedompop recently sold their company to Ting and Red Pocket. As of today, June 18, 2019, it is unknown if the Freedompop annual plans will be honored. Red Pocket told me they might have answers tomorrow. I purchased a Freedompop annual plan 17 days ago. It has not been activated yet but I am stuck with it because of Best Buy's short return policy.

Q: QuestionWhat happens after the year is up? Can you keep your number? Does this require an app or will it function normally using the standard phone icon? Att service? If you are a current FP user how do you switch?
Asked by AddyinAz.
- A:Answer Yes you can, and pay 49.99 for another year. It does require an app to call or message, but data can work without app. Data service is ATT.
