JUDY COLLINS IN CONCERT:
Legendary singer-songwriter Judy Collins has lent her iconic voice to an impressive range of genres over her five decade career, from her beloved folk work to acclaimed forays into rock and show tunes. Whether she's taking fans down memory lane with nostalgic performances of "Both Sides, Now" or breaking hearts with "Send in the Clowns," Collins never fails to imbue her material with the wistful romance that makes her performances so moving. Back on the road with a diverse collection of classic material, she is set to stun on her upcoming tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Seattle, Collins grew up studying classical piano under the rigorous tutelage of acclaimed pianist Antonia Brico. After being exposed to folk music in her teens by her radio DJ father, she made a shift towards lyric-based guitar music. Immersing herself in Greenwich Village's folk scene, Collins worked as a street performer and played small clubs before eventually attracting the attention of Elektra Records and releasing her 1961 debut A Maid of Constant Sorrow. While her early albums offered a straightforward folk sound, she branched out on 1966's In My Life, recording songs by artists as diverse as Leonard Cohen and Jacques Brel and incorporating lush orchestration -- a bold move for a folk artist at the time. The stylistic shift proved a success, earning her a Grammy in 1968 for "Both Sides, Now" and setting the tone for much of her later work. Collins continues to be a consummate performer, stunning fans around the world with her continued grace and charm in concert.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"For those of us who remember Judy in the 70's, this was like stepping back in time. Her voice is as beautiful as it was then. Her persona is warm and engaging. What a treat."
"Judy Collins is an amazing talent; and her voice sounds as clear and crisp as it did 50 years ago.
Loved her storytelling and anecdotes too!"
"Cannot believe what a marvelous voice at age 74. A truly spectacular performance by a vital artist!"
Great venue and fabulous performance. Judy was wonderful! Can not imagine a better performance. My daughter enjoyed it as much as I did.
As a super lifelong fan of the incomparable Judy Collins, having seen her in concert more times than I can count in every possible venue from Boston's Symphony Hall in the 70's to the intimate Cafe Carlyle in Manhattan, I can say with assurance that at 84 years old she is as spectacular as ever! Her vocals are course not as strong as 60 years ago, however she still sings like an angel, her voice piercing my heart with its range and beauty. There were many members of her family (granddaughter, great grandchildren!!) and friends (Stephen Stills!!) in the audience, and she performed with warmth and love. It was beyond wonderful. May she continue to sing and perform FOREVER.
Wow, what a memorable experience I will never forget. Not only did we get her library filled music collection, with winding stories and enrapturing poetry, we got a free comedy show as well! To be honest, I never clung to Judy’s music in the past, (I’m 30 years younger) but I became obsessed with her Spellbound album the moment I heard it. Proving that music is truly transcendental and timeless..What a dame!
Judy is full of stories and songs. At 84, she still hits the high notes and enjoys performing in front of an audience. Great show.
What a classy classic!! Dreamy and sweet. Her voice is as pure as ever. Nice patter and stories from the past. Simple yet very complex and compelling music. She can still those notes.
This artist is down to earth and it was more like a visit with a new friend as we learned about her life thru her songs.
At 84, Judy Collins is still bringing it. Yes, her voice cracks a little. Yes, she forgets some lyrics mid-song. But when she hits the high notes, they are perfectly clear—and she sustains them. She tells great stories and gives a great performance. Her guitar and piano skills are wonderful too. My 79-year-old mother really enjoyed it, and so did her kids.
Judy Collins was fabulous! Such a beautiful voice. So glad we were able to attend her show in the gorgeous Lyric Theatre in Birmingham.
Judy was wonderful! She told many stories about how her songs came about. Very entertaining., laid back evening.
The show was great. I really enjoyed the stories and intimate insights into her life. Send in the clowns was the best!
