A lot of beautiful music in 1964, seems the "haunting" melodies were all around from "We'll Sing In The Sunshine" by Gale Garnett to "A Summer Song" by Chad & Jeremy to "I'm Gonna Be Strong" by Gene Pitney. The Beatles were a major force in America as well, already inspiring songs like this one by The Beau Brummels: a marriage of Liverpool and the American southwest. One of the first real bands credited with creating "the San Francisco sound," The Beau Brummels fused British beat with American folk. "Laugh Laugh" is a sad song with a humorous twist, alternating between slow ballad and quick rock. It peaked on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart at #15 on February 20, 1965 and #17 on the Cash Box Top 100 on March 6, 1965. It charted at #2 in Canada.
Scenes in the video are from the film Damaged Goods (1961). This full-length feature film was later condensed and re-edited as a public service dramatic documentary short entitled "Summer of '63." It was later re-released in 1972 under the same title but with an early 70's introduction and narrator added on.
