North Pismo Beach, including Shell Beach Cove area, and Avila Beach (just north of Pismo) are very nice for walking and sightseeing. Avila Beach has a very long interesting history. Downtown Pismo traffic was bad and the old town area might seem "funky" classic beach to some.

Love the beach and pier, small downtown with shops, easy access from highway.
It's also 10-15 minutes from Avila Beach, Madonna Inn, and San Luis Obispo. It's 50 minutes from Solvang. Paso Robles (with Sensorio) are also pretty close. Morro Bay and Montana de Oro park with cool hikes are around 40 minutes away. It's just a great location to get some beach views and explore the area.

This is a charming little town with lots of shops and restaurants right at the beach. I'd say that there's enough to do downtown in one day, and then another day you can explore explore nearby. a weekend is perfect.
Because we stayed at the Pismo Beach hotel. We would go out how breakfast at the cafe. Right next door walk around and look at the shops. Go to the beach, call my quebec to the hotel rest and then go back out to try one of the restaurants..

Pismo Beach is a great area to stay as there are many small cities both inland and on the coast that are worth visiting. If you are an ocean beach lover as I, this is the perfect place for your vacation.

Pismo Beach is the busiest beach town with the most tourists vs. Avila or Morrow Beach, but still very enjoyable. Parking at all three beaches can be a challenge. Except for San Luis Obispo, downtown Pismo has the most, best restaurants. Loved the Cracked Crab and chef-owned La Bodega for a unique, delicious dining experience.
Newly renovated. It was an absolutely amazing Hotel for the value. We were pleasantly surprised to say the least! The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable! We really enjoyed the fact that the kids had a separate room from us. This is now our go to hotel! Already planning our next trip at Palomar Inn. We enjoyed it so much that we can't wait to go back for A longer stay. It was far enough away from the huddle and bussle of downtown Pismo but close enough that we could be anywhere in just minutes. The grounds were beautiful aswell.
Location can not get better: from the hotel directly down to the beach where you can walk to the Pier not more than a kilometer/0.75 miles. The access to the beach is not suitable for little kids or elders i think as its via rocks or higher (knee high) water. Very clean, view to die for, balcony to watch sunset. 2 hot tubs and a little pool in between, well maintained geass areas.Spacious well decorated room and bath.
We loved our stay here! The location is great and it is so easy to find. The views from the hotel are amazing, the outdoor seating area at the front overlooking the ocean is lovely to sit and relax. The beach is also easily accessible from the hotel. Our room was lovely and cosy and the bed was super comfortable. The staff were also very helpful in recommending places for us to go and things to do/see.
Very pet friendly. The pool was fun for the kids! Walking distance to the beach and downtown. We stayed here last time we came and as always the room was ready early for us to check in and enjoy the beach. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely stay here time and time again. Great communication from the hotel from start to finish.
Staff was very kind the moment we entered the hotel. They have a happy hour and if you’re there during that time you get on free drink/app (ticket given when checking in)! Then for brenakfast they have a buffet which was perfect!
I have been visiting Pismo Beach for many years and I have stayed at many hotels, but the Shell Beach Inn has to be my favorite ❤️ I was so impressed with the staff & the thoughtful touches in the rooms & pool side.
Hotel is really nice, best location in Pismo beach. We felt like we have our private beach, very well maintained, really good resturant, amazing staff. Beautiful location.
This hotel is located in the heart of Pismo Beach. Close to restaurants, shopping and the beach. Room was clean and very comfortable. Outstanding reception desk staff.
Amazing family and pet friendly resort on the bluff with panoramic ocean views, huge green lawn and walking paths. Just gorgeous it’s our new favorite vacation spot!
Loved the location and seems to be newly remodeled. Staff was nice and helpful and we had a quite night with a comfy bed. We will definitely be back to this hotel.
