New York indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure of Heart combines the best of Britpop, shoegaze, and '80s new wave to arrive at a sound that's all their own. The group's jaunty, soaring tunes are full of starry-eyed wonder, treating fans to an infectious blend of earnest emotion and catchy pop hooks. From the wispy vocals of singer Kip Berman on "Simple and Sure" to the anthemic riffs of guitarist Christoph Hochheim on "Until the Sun Explodes", The Pains of Being Pure at Heart serve up kaleidoscopic indie rock at its finest, delivering pitch-perfect performances that never fail to get ticket buyers moving and shaking at their celebratory live shows.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart was formed in New York City in 2007 by Kip Berman and Alex Naidus, two musicians who bonded over their shared interest in indie rock acts like the Field Mice and Smashing Pumpkins. Later that year the band released their self-titled debut EP, a charming collection of songs they distributed on their own label Painbow Records. After extensive regional touring, they followed up in 2009 with their self-titled debut LP, a critically acclaimed release that peaked at No. 9 on Billboards Heatseekers Albums chart. In 2011 they released their highly anticipated sophomore album Belong, a stellar slice of indie pop that charted in both the US and UK and drew the band out for international touring. With the release of Days of Abandon in 2014 the band revealed their most polished and ambitious work to date, earning another round of praise from critics before setting out on tour as a supporting act for The New Pornographers. Founding member Alex Naidus departed the band shortly after the release, but the band still shines as bright as ever on tour performing with his replacement Jacob Sloan.

The band rocked out and it was amazing. We were sitting up until they cam on and still got up front! Amazing show. The lead singer, Kip even sells the t-shirts after the show so if you like to get your groupy on, then you can chat with him and he even signed my shirt!! yay

Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 9/21/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK The opening band, Wyldlife, were fantastic. Think late 70s punk mixed with a little bit of glam - Ramones meets Hanoi Rocks, maybe. Twin Sister were okay, but not too exciting in my opinion. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart were also great. It was obvious that they were loving every minute of their set, and it made the experience that much more enjoyable. It was my first time seeing them, and hopefully I'll have many more opportunities in the future!

The only thing that wasn't rocking? The crowd. I have never seen an audience stand so stock still before. Maybe if people tried letting loose and enjoying themselves they'd have a way better time.

She was actually doing the crossword puzzle in The Economist. I know there isn't an actual crossword puzzle in The Economist, that's just what hipsters call putting boxes around all the letters in big words in the articles and then thinking of hints for them. All in all, it was one of the greatest entrances and exits I have ever experienced. Webster Hall, you complete me.
