Dr Aujla shows us how to get our diet right – cheaply, simply, deliciously backed by latest research." Jeannette Hyde, Author of The Gut Makeover
Registered Nutritional Therapist BSc (Hons) CNHC mBANT.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 January 2018This is one of the best cookbooks I've ever bought and I've got hundreds .I'd never heard of Dr Rupy until I was flicking through a supplement at the dentists last year which featured a couple of his recipes .I'm mostly vegetarian and have always hated sweet things for breakfast and the egg/mushroom combinations were getting a bit boring so the savoury recipes in the Breakfast section have been a revelation-the Breakfast Nut Roast in particular -I make it twice a week now and have it for breakfast with a fried /scrambled egg or for lunch ,delicious with beetroot ,Greek yoghurt and a tomato salad or warm it up and use it as a nut roast with veg for dinner .Dead easy to make though I find it holds together better if you add a small beaten egg to the mixture ..I sometimes like to have plain porridge for breakfast in the winter but while I like the taste I'm not keen on the texture but the Carrot and Ginger Oats recipe has solved that problem .And the Raspberry Adzuki Slices are out of this world-think brownies , lovely and gooey on the inside ( adzuki/black beans , prunes or dates and raspberries ,cocoa powder and almond flour ) with a crunchy crust on the outside with barely a grain of refined sugar to be seen.
I choose new cookbooks by opening them at random three times and if the random recipes are ones I would cook I often buy the book . Inevitably there at some recipes in any cookbook which don't appeal but with the possible exception of a recipe for whole roast broccoli I shall be cooking everything in this book .
Informative and well researched ( there is a 4 page section at the back with references for those who want to look into the science of healthy eating in more depth ) this book should be available on prescription , it'll save the NHS a lot of money in the long run.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 June 2019I am going to wax lyrical about this book. I read the whole introduction in one enjoyable sitting. I appreciate that it is written by a doctor and has reference to the most current research on lifestyle. His story is also authentic - having turned his own diet around while working in A&E.
I was looking for a book that would introduce me to spices (I think the key to switching to less sugar is FLAVOUR), some new ingredients and recipes, new breakfast ideas, full of flavour, easy enough to make, and get me into more vegetables. This book has all of that. I wanted to wait until I had tried a few before reviewing. The recipes seem well thought out - if you follow them exactly you really do create the most delicious flavour combinations. I was worried about putting on weight but I've actually lost 7lb in a month of following the book.
Favourites so far:
Chestnut and thyme peas with brocolli
Cardamon and chia breakfast
Garam lentil omelette
Mexican Mole
Mexican Black Bean Chilli
Za'atar Bowl
To be honest every dish I have sat down and gone wow that tastes amazing. I can honestly say I will try 90% of these recipes, that's rarely the case with a cookbook.
My only tweak has been to use less chilli, as I find it kills the other flavours, but that's personal preference.
The only criticism would be that it would be helpful to have calories / fat etc. for those on weight loss diets, and it would also help to have the prep/cooking time as I've had to work that out for planning purposes. I noticed later most recipes are labelled 'Gut / Heart Health' etc. which is great.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 February 2022I found the information around the benefits of healthy eating and how to apply that to my own life very interesting and doable. Through following the practical advice I have lost weight without much effort.
The recipes in the book use many ingredients I wouldn’t usually have in my cupboard. I have had the book two weeks and only tried one recipe so far.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 April 2018I love this book. I've always been a bit of a reluctant chef, I have certain meals I'm happy to prepare but don't really stray far from what I'm used to. I started following Rupy when he did a podcast with Dr. Chatterjee and I found his enthusiasm and passion for food cooked, not just for its delicious taste, but also its medicinal properties, totally made sense. So I bought the book and have pretty much read it from cover to cover (which I NEVER do with cookery books) and have started creating some of the recipes with great success. Not only do they taste good but I know they are doing us good. I love veg but I had no idea there were so many ways to prepare them. I also had no idea how to use dried legumes and such a variety of rices herbs and spices. My cupboard contents are slowly changing and I really look forward to trying new ideas now! The message is plain and simple and I know Rupy works incredibly hard to spread the word about how simple, cheap and easy good nutrition can be! Thank you!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 February 2018There are some great recipes in here and I really enjoyed the introduction. Have done three already. I like his tone too and the variety of ideas.
Like other reviewers have said, nutritional values are missing. Also some oddities in quantities, for example chai seed recipe states 2 tablespoons of chai seeds to 180ml milk but the 'tip' says 1 tablespoon to 60ml is ideal! 75gms of porridge oats seems a lot for 200 ml of milk too..very thick porridge I would guess, especially when other bits added. Chestnut broccoli breakfast very generous and lovely, the good for you broth however in reality serves one, not the two stated. Having said that, I look forward to trying out more recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book for your Doctor!
It took a while for the book to get to me in California, but it was well worth the wait. In the meantime, I listened to Dr. Rupy’s six episode podcast 2 or 3 times. The enthusiasm and authenticity in his voice is refreshing in a health world that is increasingly harder to navigate. The guests were knowledgeable and Dr. Rupy asked the appropriate questions. Real science-based studies were used as evidence throughout. Each time I listened I learned something new and grew more excited for the book.
I received the book last night I have already read the first 30 pages. The layout is amazing. The introduction is written like a magazine article, which I believe makes the abundance of information easier to digest. Is is intriguing and the writing is immaculate. No mistakes or boring redundant information. It is obvious that Dr. Rupy spent a vast amount of time pulling together relevant research. The enthusiasm I heard in his podcast can also be felt in the writing, which is inspirational. The content is broken down beautifully and is easy to follow. My hope for this book is that doctors all over the world read it and adopt Rupy’s approach. Western medicine is amazing but food is medicine and nutrition is the foundation of health. The two should be used as one to help shape better health systems all over the world. I am so glad that Dr. Rupy dedicated his time, energy and love into this project. I cannot wait to finish reading the intro and to get started with the recipes. This will be a life changer for me.
