A: Remote uses batteries. Stick gets power from tv through USB or directly plugging into socket. Powering from tv means that the stick will reboot each time tv is turned on. Socket power keeps stick energized and saves memory. I've tried both ways and so far I think I prefer the tv reboot option. It takes a bit longer to boot up and come alive but that is offset by less run time coupled with a "clearing of the baffles" every time it reboots. BTW, I am very happy with the stick +, currently owning 3 and soon to add 4 more. I'm able to drop directv and replace with these sticks and select channels at 1/3 the cost for almost identical content.
A: You do no have to have a smart TV. The Roku stick turns it into a smart tv. The headphones unplug from the remote. When they are plugged in, the sound on the tv is muted. When unplugged, the sound flows through the tv. My tv is olkd, and this works quite well. You do need the internet,
Q: when using the earphones is there any sound lag? Can any earphones be used?
A: I haven't noticed any sound lag. You can use any wired headphones with the remote. If you have the Roku smartphone app you can use any bluethooth headphone or speaker.
Q: Will this stick work for a 2016 55” smart tv better than the fire sick?
A: I replaced my firestick with the Roku. I have a total of 4. My Plasma was built in 2000 - so yes should work fine with your 2016 TV.
Q: is there a monthly cost for the Roku stick
A: None for Roku Stick, you will pay for the subscribed apps
Q: does this have the amazon prime video app?
A: Yup! It has the best selection of streaming apps out there. Can't think of any it doesn't support.
A: Yes you must have a charge card but you could simply load a prepaid. It is so you can get apps that charge a subscription straight through the Roku and not have to go to the website. It is also so you can rent movies or purchase movies. You set a pin so you can’t accidentally spend money and then you use that pin every time you want to make a purchase. Some apps like VUDU and Amazon also want cards so you can buy stuff from them.
