I came here on my way down to AC since it was recently rated the #1 pizza restaurant on NJ. It is in a small strip mall and can easily not be seen unless you know it is there. The main entrance takes you into...the pizza counter and oven area, then you walk through to a one room dining room. Because it was rated the #1 pizza we went with the Peter’s Special billed as a thin square pie with a peeled tomato sauce, a blend of fresh mozzarella finished with pecorino Romano cheese and fresh basil ($20). The pizza looked beautiful when it arrived and then the wheels started falling off the bandwagon. The odd thing was that the pizza appeared to be steaming hot yet when you bit into it that was not the case … it was lukewarm! The next odd thing was that the cheese did adhere to the crust and the crust looked uncooked on the inner layer. The bottom layer was burnt beyond what I would call reasonable and very grease laden. My take here is that the crust was previously cooked an then frozen, defrosted and dressed up with the toppings. I did like the dabs of sauce and the cheese but the crust was a disaster.
This was nowhere close to even being a top tier pizza let alone #1. It is the second “Brooklyn” place that was rated #1 by this NJ food writer, which the pizza had the same first name. The #1 Italian restaurant he voted in, in my opinion (Café 2825), was also a joke. You can read my review on TripAdvisor a couple years ago. As I say, because an owner is from Brooklyn it does not make you an expert cook or pizza artisan.
FYI ... this review from August 2017 was erroneously posted under Brooklyn Square Pizza, NY.
