About

Award-Winning Singer & Songwriter KAT EDMONSON is described "with an equal foothold in jazz, cabaret and vintage cosmopolitanism pop" (NEW YORK TIMES).

Kat is equally comfortable on the stage, in the recording studio, on a movie set, or recording The Kat Edmonson Show from the intimacy of her own home. She has played major stages across the United States, Europe, and Asia from Carnegie Hall to the Montreux Jazz Festival to the Blue Note in Japan.

Kat's outstanding performance was featured on CBS Saturday Morning on Christmas Day 2021! NPR says, “Hearing Edmonson makes it virtually impossible to do anything but stop and listen.”

Raised on the music and film of the early-to-mid-twentieth century, Kat is a rare artist who embodies the spirit of the past while remaining resolutely au courant. She performs original songs and familiar classics in her live show, interweaving humorous anecdotes, philosophical musings, and her love of film with disarming candor and vulnerability. Her longtime band members’ keen and sensitive accompaniment allows Kat to freely veer off-script as she’s often inclined to do.

In 2016, she appeared in Woody Allen’s “Cafe Society” as a 1930s jazz singer and was highlighted on the official soundtrack performing her version of “Mountain Greenery.” Her experience in Allen’s film inspired the artist to study the craft of acting. In the winter of 2022, Kat made her theatrical debut in "The Hang": a new jazz opera by Taylor Mac and Matt Ray. Upon its opening, the off-off Broadway show received "Critic's Pick" in The New York Times highlighting Kat's "extraordinary artistry." The show, "The Hang", imagines the final hours of the life of Socrates as he asks his friends to use every moment left to think on virtue.

Kat Edmonson and her band have recorded a Christmas album including Yule-tide favorites such as “Jingle Bell Rock”, “O Christmas Tree”, and “Let It Snow”. 'Holiday Swingin’! A Kat Edmonson Christmas Vol. 1' was described by Jazziz as “impeccably hip” and included in the NEW YORK TIMES list of “13 Albums That Revisit (and Redefine!) Holiday Classics."

    Merry Christmas!

by SB on 12/20/23Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

Fun show—great venue. Kat was entertaining—kinda like Alvin the Chipmunk all grown up. Topped off with a fantastic version of The Chipmunk Song! I think *I* want a hula hoop! The rest of the show was quirky, fun. Happy Holidays, all!

Cat was great, too bad about the skybar though

by Renay on 12/11/21Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

We love Kat, the show was wonderful. The sound system the lights and the stage were all terrific. Very professional venue. It was our first time in the new venue, so thought the sky bar was a balcony. It's actually in the next room from the show. We probably will not sit in the sky bar again, preferring to be in the room where the show is.

Her story was amazing, the way she shared her life experiences through her songs. She was so passionate, I could feel it in my soul.

by David & Rosanne H on 11/16/21Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

It was our first venture out in quite a long time. And wow, what a time it was! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Kat was at the at the Top of Her Game! Kat, and accompanist, Roy Dunlap, were spot on, and gave an excellent performance. We will attend all performances that we can, to be able to see them again!

The venue was great with views of the SD bay, and Kat was in great form. She was warm funny, and sounded great ! This young lady can really take control of an audience with both her voice and beautiful stage presence .

    A truly amazing concert!

by Beth C. on 4/1/19Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

My husband and I traveled from Iowa to Ft Lauderdale just to see Kat Edmonson perform. She did not disappoint! This was a magical evening, one we will long remember. It was such an intimate evening, and we loved all the personal stories Ms. Edmonson sprinkled in between many of her songs about how she came to write them. If she happens to perform closer to our home state in the future, we will be first in line to see her again!

A great evening with an amazing artist.

by Mike on 4/1/19Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

I love this venue because of the intimate setting. A performer like Kat Edmondson makes it feel even more so, basically inviting you into her world and her process, talking to the audience like friends and taking time to greet them and meet them afterwards. I truly hope I get to see her again.

    Kat Edmonson is amazing!

    by luickyme65 on 11/13/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

Kat is and extremely talented singer and song-writer. Her music is like old jazz standards but updated. I would say she could be the new Diana Krall. Everything she does is flawless!
