Purchase options and add-ons
Part Tony Robbins, part Mehmet Oz, here is fitness guru and creator of P90X Tony Horton’s wake-up call for readers—a motivational and practical guide to creating a better life and a healthier body.
One of America’s best-known and most-loved fitness gurus, "master of motivation" Tony Horton shares his philosophy that will help you live your best life. In his first non-workout book, he offers 11 Rules that provide a clear path and purpose for achieving life goals and obtaining optimal health.
Written with his trademark irreverence, candor, and take-no-prisoners approach, The Big Picture shows you how your physical health is intricately linked to your mental, financial, and family health, and overall happiness and contentment—and how the same skills and principles that work in the gym work in every area of life. Tony shares stories of the hard-won battles he’s faced—many of the same life challenges experienced by his fans—from childhood bullies and problems at school, to financial troubles and being overweight.
Enlightening and practical, The Big Picture can help you how to slim down, feel good, and live better.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2016I really enjoyed this book, but to be honest, I was already a huge Tony Horton fan. This book was very motivating for me and when life got in the way and my workouts took a back seat, reading this book helped me refocus my mind set and get me back on track to achieving the goals I had set for myself and tweaking or re-establishing new ones. This book is not just about health and fitness, but is written to assist in all aspects of your life. There are some very interesting insights into Tony’s own life and how his philosophies relate to his own success. I think this makes it easier to relate than some self-help / motivational books out there. Having previously completed P90X I recognized many of the one-liners that I hear regularly during the workouts, it was interesting to have many of these one-liners placed in perspective and to hear some of the origins behind Tony’s mindset. The passion and devotion he brings to the table is to be admired, if everybody attacked there lives with the same amount of passion we would have many more successful people. I still have a long way to get to my goals, but whenever I need a pick-me-up and a little extra motivation, I know that I can re-read this book and it will help me get right back on track. Overall I would highly recommend this book to anyone needing some additional motivation to not only get fit and healthy but to also provide some inspiration to achieve your goals and be successful in life in general.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2022Tony is the perfect mix of fitness, health, fun, determination and knowledge. I have done three of his workout programs over the past decade and he is the only trainer that I'll really listen to during the workouts. I found myself searching for quotes from the workout series and never considered reading his books. I believe things happen for a reason and this happened to be the best time in my life to read and absorb this book. Tony dives into solutions to problems that most people don't realize they have. Because of Tony's approach to fitness and health, he reached me like nobody else has (first through his workouts). To be able to hear these laws from the man himself in a book vs an hour sweat session fulfills me. Tony gets it and this book will help you get it, too. I suggest getting a notebook and taking notes throughout the chapters to thoroughly contemplate the message that he is trying to convey. Thank you, Tony!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2014I've been a fan of Tony Horton since Power 90, P90x, and now am half way through P90X3. When I saw this book announced on Facebook, I downloaded it to my kindle and finished reading it within a few hours.
The structure of the book is about Tony's "11 Laws," more like the principles he recommends for a better life. It isn't too in depth, more like a roadmap than a detailed guide. Nothing he said surprised me-- it certainly sounded like Tony. You'll recognize some of his one liners from the DVDs (for example a whole chapter on "do your best, forget the rest"), and some other insight on how is attitude toward yoga evolved. Also interesting is insight such as how he developed these programs for "in home" use (he was a trainer to Hollywood/music stars; they can't go to the gym or go for a run around the block -- they have to work out in their living room!).
This book is definitely centered around fitness, and reads almost like a beefy intro you might read before opening the plastic on a DVD to get you motivated -- with perspective and balance.
Overall, it was an interesting and easy read, filling in and adding color to what we thought we already knew about Tony.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2015I am usually quite skeptical of books written by Hollywood stars - or in this case, by the fitness trainer to the celebrities, Tony Horton. However, I had started doing one of Tony's fitness programs, enjoyed it, and wanted to soak up more of Tony's tips and overall philosophy, so I bought this book. I was very pleasantly surprised by the depth of The Big Picture, and by Tony's balanced and disciplined, yet somehow simultaneously relaxed outlook. He writes with often self-deprecating humor about how he found his purpose after floundering around a bit, and gives advice to others looking to find their purpose. I especially enjoyed the section in the back of the book (appendix 4) where he shares a list of books that had a big impact on him. If you're doing any of the P90x fitness programs, this is a great companion book. It reminds you of how fitness can fit into your overall life goals.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2023Tony Horton is one of those people that is bigger than life. He has gone through a lot and he has learned from it. I'm so glad he has a loving relationship with his wife and a family. He gives a lot back to others. I have not finished the book yet but it had me from the first page. You might recall Tony did the P90X videos. I still have those and work out to them. I feel you and I will gain a lot of helpful information and motivation from this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2014Nice easy read, lots of fun and tony keeps the mood light and energetic. Not the most well written book, but I am not going to get hung up on trivials...just read it, enjoy it for what it is and take any advice and wisdom you can...we all can use a a bit more of each. Stories of personal accomplishments are touching and impressive. We all have it in us to do great things...decide, commit, succeed. I'm biased, of course, P90X and Beachbody (cheap plug) have been a part of my fitness regime for over a year now. Lots of physical improvements but the mental improvements are the most significant. Nothing like an awesome self esteem to push you through any challenge life can, and will, toss your way.
Keep up the good work and never stop motivating people to good things.
Cheers

5.0 out of 5 stars and probably subconsciously treating it like a TV show
Book finished in 2 days.
When I started P90X there's no way I thought I'd be buying his book. I couldn't abide Tony Horton.
That is until I started actually doing the workouts. I think if you just watch them to get a feel then the only thing you're concentrating on is the spoken words from the TV, and probably subconsciously treating it like a TV show.
But when you're training, your focus shifts to where it's meant to be and Tony then becomes fantastic.
The book is a great addition to P90x and everything in it just clicks and makes sense.
Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tipico de Tony Horton
Pero, como digo, es 100% Horton: do your best, and forget the rest.
