[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This ScoopFree self-cleaning litter box has been a complete game changer for me and my cats. First, a little background to help to explain.... I currently have two cats, one of which is fifteen-years old, and the other is a younger cat that I inherited when my mother passed. Though they tolerate each other, my old boy is not a fan of sharing boxes with his adopted brother, and it needless to say has resulted in a lot of issues and mess clean-up. This automatic box quickly fixed that problem (after two years of struggles). I set the Scoopfree box next to a regular litter box (as the instructions suggest), and also sprinkled a little normal litter on top of the crystals to help them to know what it was for. Neither acted scared of it,  and they both even came running in and watched in fascination as it raked for the first time. My younger boy took to using it in less than a day, and completely stopped using the "regular" boxes. My old boy took about a week and a half before he finally started using it.... though before that, I was happy even with the younger using it, because it meant my old boy had the regular boxes all to himself, and was no-longer leaving ill-placed "presents". He discovered he doesn't mind sharing the Scoopfree box because it is automatically cleaned, and free of having to contend with leavings that are not his own.
   Now, for the technical aspects. The crystal litter is poured into a cardboard tray (there was a tray and littler included with the system, and the cardboard is largely waterproof/ designed to last for duration of the litter use). The end of the cardboard tray has a section that is folded over, and there are magnets along the top. You place the ScoopFree frame/box over the cardboard tray, and the magnets on the tray match-up with magnets on the underside of the flap/ cover on the ScoopFree. When the rake runs through the litter tray and reaches that flap....it lifts up, and lifts the cardboard flap up as well....which results in solid waste being scooted under that section, and then it is contained by both the layer of cardboard, and the plastic. The containment is very effective at preventing odors (and the crystal litter also really helps with that as well). The ScoopFree never runs while a cat is in the box, and it even allows for some time to pass after the box has been used before the box is raked. I have been very surprised at how quiet the box is---it really is similar to the sound of a soft fan, and moves at a pretty slow pace (both factors help to prevent cats from seeing it as scary as well). Typically when I do hear it in action it is the rattling sound of the crystal litter that I hear, not the actual mechanical sound. Additionally, the ScoopFree provides a digital display count of how many times the box has been used. This was great when I was curious if my cats were using it, but it also can be helpful for monitoring cats with bladder issues etc.. The box also provides ample space for cats to do their thing. Both of my cats are large (Maine Coon and a 20 lb Turkish Van), and have used it comfortably. 
   I have used this system for a month, and today I changed the tray for the first time (yes, the tray lasted for a full month of use, and the litter even looked like it could last a while longer... just the solid waste section was full). There was not any moisture leakage, the crystal litter truly absorbed everything. I simply lifted the Scoopfree off of the tray, put the provided lid on the tray.... and disposed of it. I then placed a fresh tray under the frame. The whole process only took a couple of minutes.... and I used to spend much more time than that every day scooping multiple boxes, and cleaning messes that were outside of the boxes. The only small negative I experienced in the month of use is that one of my cats left some soft waste, and a little of it stuck to one of the rake tongs. I was able to clean it off (put a glove on, and used damp paper towels). However, in the scope of how much easier and cleaner this box has made things for me and my cats, it was pretty minor. 
   I am extremely pleased with this product. My cats are happier (no longer stressed about sharing), my house smells better, and I no-longer have to bend several times a day to fiddle with scoops. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for litter box solutions.

It takes away the chore of having to scoop litter from a traditional litter box. There is absolutely no odor from your cat's waste when using this litter box. It automatically senses when your cat uses the litter box and waits 20 minutes before raking the waste into the disposal container. My kittens only took 2 days to transition from the traditional litter box to this one. Disposal of the litter tray is simple and easy for when it is time to replace. The crystals are dust free and there is no tracking when the cat leaves the litter box. My 2 kittens love this system and I do as well!

Best Invention for Cat Owners!

At first he was sniffing it and started playing and rolling around in it but after a little bit, he got the gist of it and went potty! Since then, i have not smelt anything! (his little messys happen to stink really bad) meaning i can finally have a nice smelling clean house. The cleanup is super easy. all you do it take the tray out and put the cover over on top so nothing falls out or no smells escape and boom! All done! It's definitely worth it for the price. Highly recommend.

Hassle free

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the Scoopfree  Self-cleaning Litter Box to try with my 2 cats. The system was easy to set up and it comes with one tray.  My one cat started using it right away. The other one it took a couple days. With 2 cats it says it lasts 15 to 20 days. I changed it after 10 to 12 days.  The litter does change color when there is alot of liquid,so that's what I went by to change it. It automatically rakes the litter after the cat is done. It goes into a cardboard box that is covered. I did not smell it!! The tray is easy to remove. Just cover it up and throw away. That is the great thing about this tray too!  We had one little problem when someone pushed alot of the litter to one side,so the sensor was covered, but once you move it back  it worked fine! That just happened one time! I would recommend this product.

Works Great!

He is a a big cat - close to 20 lbs and overall a big frame and I was worried he wouldn't fit. I found it easy to set up, and once hooked up I watched to see when he would use it. He went right to it without any work on my part. He fit it it fine and once done it raked automatically. 
It's been in use over a week now and it's been great not having to scoop! It's done the work and when I go by it it's always clean and freshly raked. I'm loving how easy it is, and love that there is absolutely no odor.

Works even for larger cats!

I am sho angry at myself fir not purchasing this sooner! Amazing technology.  My cats got right in it. Im so thankful not to have to clean or smell a litter box again! I feel confident in having company again.  Thank you!

Outstanding purchase!

My cat has used the box about 45 times now, she demanded that i change the litter at about 35 and its working for me great. It dosent have any smell good or bad not even when it got used enough that my cat didnt want to use it any more, and my cat and i live in the same room i sleep 5 foot away from her litter box. Not only does it move the solid waste out of the way it also sifts the liquid waste so that its not so concentrated. Any time i lift up the electronics i clean off the sensors and the box has only told me that the sensors were not reading once. There is not much 'storage' for the solid waste so with one cat i find myself lifting it up maybe 2 times a week to scoop the solids out and sifting any wet looking litter around. The counter and light makes knowing whats up and if its all good very easy as well as helping to keep track of how long its been since you emptied the solids out. Finally the litter and disposable tray idea is nice and handy especially to just get delivered however its very expensive at least up front. Depending on how long your cat is willing to use the litter and if you buy more in bulk or not might wind up causing the price to even out especually if you buy more expensive litter already.

Does a good job

I have had to change the litter every week.  Above is just an example but it is consistently the same.  The crystals became saturated with urine after one week.  I have to rearrange the crystals manually.  The average number of times my cat uses the box is 3.8 per day.  Cats urinate on average 2-4 times per day.  The claim that it "automatically cleans for weeks", "one fresh tray per month", fell way short of what I expected.   It is not really easy to clean as you have to take everything apart.  The disposable trays are awkward to fit in a trash bag.  Be careful or you will have it everywhere.  It isn't very effective in eliminating odors as the crystals become soaked with urine.  Sometimes the grate gets stuck and you have to manually shift the crystals around.  I have only used a traditional litter box and was so hoping this would be great.
