- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2021Holy hell......what did I just read. What an innovative read. Completely original storyline and I did not want to put it down for a second. I loved every single character and the more I thought I knew what was going on the more twists it threw at me. What an incredible start to my year of reading. I would read this again and again and never get sick of it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2023Wow- so many times I gasped out loud while reading this book 😮.
I did think the big “who dunnit” reveal was a little too far fetched but saying that I still think this was a great story the author really made you care about the characters 🥰
I just ordered the next 2 books in the series and can’t wait to read them!!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 November 2020Teen Killers Club is a cross between a young adult thriller and a coming of age story, set against a dystopian landscape. The whole premise is a refreshingly original and interesting one and it's a whole lot of fun! It follows seventeen year old Signal Deere, a reclusive, introverted trailer park Goth who is very much an outsider and has been framed for the brutal murder and decapitation of her best friend and classmate, Rose. Trouble is she has no recollection of the night in question. She becomes known as The Girl From Hell and designated a Class A criminal, a class reserved for those society dubs irredeemable, but instead of going through the court process and then on to a lifetime in prison if convicted, she is recruited into a secret group full of other Class A criminals, where they become trained assassins the government uses to kill off anyone causing them inconvenience. But Signal is innocent and there's no such thing as an appeal or retrial for the worst offenders. She doesn't fit in amongst the genuine murderers who enjoy being taught how to kill and dispose of bodies inconspicuously. Can she survive a camp full of psychopaths and fake her way through the program?
This was so much fun right from the off and the mix of humour, puppy love and Signal's thrilling time in the camp, living alongside psychopathic slayers, made this such a quick, easy and thoroughly entertaining read. There are twists and turns to the story and it all moves at a decent pace. I really enjoyed the distinctive personalities of the characters, and I imagine a lot of time and effort went into making them as intricately developed as they were. Of course, the plot has to be taken with a pinch of salt, but if you can suspend your disbelief you are treated to a compulsive and really quite addictive dystopian thriller, which is a perfect as an escape from the rather troubling reality we are in right now. An excellent, gripping and unique debut from an author to watch. Recommended to those who enjoy YA and coming of age thrillers and readers looking for something a little different to the norm. A book to lose yourself in and devour in a single sitting. Many thanks to Crooked Lane Books for an ARC.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 November 2020Seventeen-year-old Signal Deere is serving time after she is convicted of the murder of her best friend Rose. Signal hardly remembers anything of the night it happened. Signal is now classed as Class A, a dangerous criminal. Signal is going to appeal but her caseworker Dave says she has no chance and offers her alternative to prison. She is sent a camp to train as a assassin. The program is known unofficially as Teen Killers Club. There are seven others like her at the camp. They all are given various tasks to complete. The only problem is Signal isn't a killer, she has been set up and decides once and all to solve the murder of Rose.
This was a wild read. The book is certainly not realistic so you need to go into the book with a suspension of disbelief,
All the characters in the book are complex characters. They all have a dark past (we don't learn all of the characters backgrounds) and have actually committed the crimes. The characters were well written as you actual ending up liking them even though they are killers.
I could of done without the triangle in the book (i'm not a fan of love triangles) and felt we didn't necessary romance in the book.
The actual story murder story with Signal has a twist which i was suspecting would happened.
Overall a book with a wild plot and characters who you end up actually liking.
I received a ARC from Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for an objection review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dreamy nightmare in the best way
Teen Killers Club achieves that rare feat of delivering all the things I want from YA thrillers -- imaginative concepts, rich interior lives of young people, impossible crushes -- but elevates it all with smart writing, existential questions, and crackling humor. Lily Sparks really knows how to write, and her hero Signal Deere is the best combination of clever and intelligent. Personally, it can be tough to get through a first-person novel where you feel one step ahead of the protagonist -- if I wanted to feel trapped in the head of a dummy I'd meditate more! -- but not here. Every time I thought I knew where the plot was going, or what choices Signal would make, Teen Killers Club surprised me at every turn. I'm neither a teenager nor a girl -- and it's been a while since I was sent against my will to a government-sponsored off-book summer camp for teenage assassins (long story) -- but I felt seen by this novel and couldn't help but feel immersed in its dark and twisted world. Finally, even though this book has an incredibly satisfying ending, I have to admit I really hope this becomes a franchise. I would absolutely keep going on this dark, hilarious and frequently just-plain-lovely journey. HIGHLY recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Major Page-Turner!
Not gonna lie, I was in a major reading slump. 2020 has done a serious number on my ability to focus for any length of time. So I was delighted the night I started reading to look over and find that suddenly it was after midnight and I’d been reading over an hour. And it stays just as well paced and engaging throughout. Fair warning, don’t read before bed if you have to get up early the next morning.
Signal is a great MC and through her we meet a variety of other intriguing Class A’s who have chosen this desperate bid to escape jail time and ended up making a deal with the devil. The moral grayness of it will keep you on your toes. Because on one hand, you want them to succeed. You identify with them and think that maybe these kids aren’t any different from any other teenager. But then you check yourself because what you’re rooting for is ultimately for them to murder people and get off scot free.
I can’t wait to read more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read in one day!
This book is like if you take the premise of Suicide Squad and mix it with the vibe of The Hunger Games. Later, add to that a dash of Divergent or maybe the modern Carmen Sandiego.
Despite this not being one of my go-to genres, I quickly became hooked. The writing was fantastic with just the right amount of twists and turns. Really, aside from a plot hole near the end, it was a satisfying, one-day read--even then, that angle may be addressed in the way-out-of-my-price-range sequels. I hope I get to read them someday!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Fun & Compelling Read
Teen Killers Club is right in the vein of The Giver, Hunger Games and Divergent but is still a very original and captivating story. I read it in one sitting, I couldn't put it down because I kept wanting to know "what's going to happen next?". The characters are well fleshed out and three dimensional, thus making the reader care about what's going to happen to them. The novel also includes inventive red herrings and plot twists, with a strong female protagonist. Highly recommended.
