Shelving is a great blessingJillI love this product. I first started using it when my son was about 10 to keep his bedroom organized. He is now 36 and I have been using them in my quilting studio! Fabulous outcome! Thanks so much!5
Always useful ChareeI have several Ivars set up in my home for various shelving reasons. It is a staple for my home.5
Stickers show Ikea might actually believe its customers should suffer!Anonymous reviewerAs others have said, there are two stickers on the shelves. One, I think by the manufacturer, peels off easily. The other, Ikea's bar code, is impossible to remove without damaging the shelf wood. So here was my routine--scrape off the sticker with a tool that removes the paper and leaves the glue, digging into the wood. Break out the power sander, sanding each shelf for several minutes, (relatively quickly clogging the sand paper with the incredibly adhesive glue). And even then the stain will leave a sticker shaped blank spot!
Why does Ikea do this? Because I suspect a principle of this retail chain is to make everything difficult for customers, on the marketing belief that because they have to do inordinate amount of work for cheap furniture, customers will value it more.
Maybe, but in this case, the labor involved over a really trivial thing, easily remedied by a firm if they cared, means that I will from now on I will only shop Ikea for products like Lingonberry Jam!1
Not the same! NylaI have ivar everywhere! Hobby room, sewing room, garage, and office! These shelves are not as good as the former shelves since the metal bracket comes apart when disassembling, which requires purchasing more shelves! Nice marketing move! 4
Brackets are trashChrisBrackets fall off less the 8 months of use. Try to put them back on and they just keep falling off. Spoke to IKEA support and there is no warranty after 6 months. This is obviously a quality issue if I have 6 shelf's that are doing the same thing. Well, wasted $90 and have just a piece of wood. Do not recommend.1
New Metal Brackets are a FAIL of epic proportions!AnonymousThese are an awesome shelving design. At least they were. The plastic shelf rails were FAR, FAR superior to this ridiculous metal design. No reasonable person cannot see this. I have tons of these for my business and once I discovered the new metal bracket design, I stopped buying them. Generally, several shelves will lose a metal bracket, break the wood or both upon install and disassembly to move them WILL 100% break 10% - 20% of the shelves. There is no way, you don't know this. You obviously don't care. I would happily pay more for the old, plastic design because IT WORKS! This is a product devolution and fail of EPIC proportions on par with NEW Coke.
A former epic product that I purchased MANY of and recommended to friends and associates and become an abomination and near useless!
I would not recommend this to anyone for any reason in its current state.1
Works for my needs, but use cautionJessicaOverall, I'm happy with the shelves I selected for my pottery studio. However, there are some caveats: the stickers on the shelves are difficult and time consuming to remove. They also left a residue that I'm sure will discolor over time. Since the shelves are so high, this will invariably be visible on some of them. The metal dowels took a long time to separate from their positions in the metal piece. If you're only doing a single shelf, that's not bad... But if you ordered enough to fit a whole wall like I did, you're going to be prying metal from metal for a while. One of my metal frames separated from its shelf, but I was able to reconnect. One out of a whole bunch isn't too bad, I guess. Although one metal dowel was missing. The wood is very soft and prone to dings. It also feels splintery in many places. For a pottery studio, this is fine. For use in the home, it would be upsetting. 3
Stickers are a huge pain to removeKathrynWe've loved IVAR shelves for many years, but the stickers on our recent purchase of IVAR shelves was very irritating. It took hours to remove them and sand down the spot where they had been. This is ridiculous and a frustrating waste of time!1
shelfAnabelaconvenient, easy to install4
Stickers are unnecessary and destructiveLiseetsaWe've purchased IVAR for decades and price stickers have always been an issue but much worse now. The amount of residue requires a heat gun and scraper. Phone CS told me to soak it in hot soapy water-- by the bracket? Water would cause rust to the bracket, swell raw wood, and still not get the residue off. Sanding didn't work--just condensed gunk. Ikea should leave a bar code at the register for the rails and shelves considering the iconic product and damage caused by the stickers on raw wood. Even if the stickers are on the bottom, we see the bottom on the higher shelves. Wondering if this is one way to phase out our beloved product line--degrade the quality so we stop buying them. Trying to get the pegs out of the bracket is also a serious struggle now. So sad. RIP Ivar...3
Nice shelvesRobertThey get the job done. They hold stuff. They’re wood. They’re nice.5
It fitsBrianFits my existing shelf. Good value.5
Newer style of shelves are not greatLauraI have several iterations of these shelves as I add through the years. I bought the bulk of my shelving second hand which I think speaks to the longevity of the product. While I understand and appreciate the latest style has metal attachments and no adhesive for sustainability reasons, the metal pieces pry out of the shelf quite easily. In the first batch of the new shelves I bought I returned one because the metal bracket was in the bottom of the box and off the shelf. I have one new shelf in my current system that I wanted to adjust but can’t yet because when I try to remove the wood separates from the metal and I haven’t been able to figure out how to get the metal to separate from the metal pegs.
The new shelves will not be able to last, please review this style of attachment! 1
IVAR is a great system - I miss the corner shelvingAnneThe IVAR system's offering has been dramatically paired down which I miss even though I didn't buy most of the fancy upgrades. This is very utilitarian and affordable. Make sure you hear the "click" when installing a shelf. 5
VERY HAPPY WITH THE QUALITYAngelaHAPPY WITH THE QUALITY OF THE IVAR SHELVES AND THE QUALITY IS ON POINT HOWEVER THEY ARE ON EXPENSIVE SIDE NOT SO HAPPY WITH
THE PRICE OF THE IVAR SHELF'S HOWEVER
IT IS STILL A VERY NICE SHELVING UNIT5
Works, but …TeresaThe metal bracket has a tendency of coming unset. Make sure you know where you want it because, if you try to undo it, you are most likely going to pull out the metal bracket from the wood. 3
IVAR shelfJanetteI love Ivar products, but some metal trims came off easily. I have returned them to the IKEA Return Dept. Got another IVAR shelves. 4
Pine storage shelves JeanneVery sturdy. Perfect for storage shelves. The unit itself needs to be supported or wobbles. But very affordable, and certainly worth the money.5
Great shelving PatI really like the smooth surface of the wood, great for storage and easy to put together 5
Shelves break due to really bad bracket designMarkAs many others have noted, the metal brackets on these shelves are awful. Please bring back the old reliable plastic brackets or redesign the metal brackets. Just the act of pulling the metal pegs out of the brackets (where they are stored before assembly) can cause the bracket to pull out of the wood, permanently damaging the shelf. And if you want to re-arrange the shelves, you are even more likely to cause damage. Furthermore, the new shelf design makes it much more difficult, if not impossible, to customize the shelf width and reuse the brackets.1
