    Mike Doughty brings the energy

by Tim D on 11/22/23The Foundry - Philadelphia

My third time seeing Mike Doughty and my first visit to The Foundry. I will definitely return to the venue as it is a smaller intimate room and look forward to seeing Mike again in the future. He has a way of merging his eclectic voice and lyrics with his grooving beat that has your body moving ways you didn’t know it could do.

    Always a Great Show

by Drew on 11/17/23Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens - Boston

Mike always performs an awesome show! He finds incredibly talented musicians to work with and puts together a fun set. This was a perfect mix of his entire catalogue, including Soul Coughing material. The venue, Brighton Music Hall, is lower capacity creating a more intimate setting.

Great to see Mike back sharing old SC material. Sounded great blending the old material (reworked arrangements) with new stuff.

    Fantastic

by John the Revelator on 11/8/23Majestic Theatre - Madison

Hope the next time I catch them that they play "I Hear the Ax Swinging". Doughty is one of the most underrated musicians of all time and Andrew Livingston impresses the hell out of me. Great show!

    Go see this show

by Coffeegirl on 12/5/22The Southern Cafe & Music Hall - Charlottesville

Loved it. He was a charming host and he brought his A game. His cooler than cool voice sounds better than ever and he really used it in its full range as an instrument. His guitar playing also at new heights with lots of variation and many great hooks. Would have gone back for a second time the next night!

    Everything I expected and more

by Mr Sounds on 2/19/20Tralf - Buffalo

Doughty and his cellist and drummer gave it everything. Mike was not only excellent but brought his best effortlessly. His percussionist was hysterical to watch...precision plus. His cellist perfectly complimented Doughtys songs. He played all his "hits" and brought new textures and energies to them. They opened for themselves as The Baby Men donning jumpsuits and multicolored ski masks, playing art house weirdo music....excellent.

    Definitely not disappointed

by bhodichaya on 10/20/19Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

I was anticipating an amazing show and was not disappointed. Mike, Scrap, Matt, little Pepper and ORI305 absolutely killed it. This show landed solidly in my top 5 of all time. Here's hoping 2021 will bring an Irresistible Bliss Tour.

Mike Dooughty plays Soul Coughing's Ruby Vroom 25th Anniver

by B Bizzaro on 3/6/19Port City Music Hall - Portland

Upon discovering this record by my all time favorite band Soul Coughing at age 19 I was hooked from the very first notes of the opener "Is Chicago is not Chicago". This record remains my favorite Soul Coughing recording and is still in my top 5 favorite albums. Everything changed for me with Ruby Vroom and the records that followed. I have seen Mike Doughty perform several times, twice with Soul Coughing and 11 more times solo. This may have been the best one for me. Mike did not simply reproduce his former band's debut, he masterfully reimagined and reworked it, taking it to another level with improvisation and fresh new samples. Most songs were familiar enough to sing along to and created nostalgia of first hearing them but they felt fresh as they evolved into something greater. Mike was at the top of his game this evening and my mind had been blown all over again. This was a show I never thought I would experience and one that I will never forget.

    Doughty does it again!

by ArthurV on 3/25/18Port City Music Hall - Portland

The matured sound of the original Soul Coughing tickled my ears. Like a fine wine it only got better with time.

    The evolution of Mike Doughty.

by StephJMG on 3/6/17Brighton Music Hall - Boston

I have to preface this by saying that I've seen Mike in concert before and that both times have been in support of my husband, who has been a major fan since the Soul Coughing days. The last time we saw him (about three years ago), he definitely had more of a rock-folk flavor to his music. I was so pleasantly surprised to see electronic and noise influence at this most recent show. I don't think I stopped dancing the whole time - it was so great and far surpassed my expectations. Wheatus opened and I only knew them from Teenage Dirtbag, but their set was really good and I loved how their sound so radically changed to play back-up for Mike. All in all, highly recommend - if you can get to this show, do!
