Product details
This is not an ordinary box with a lid. It’s a treasure chest that stimulates playfulness, a house to furnish, a staircase and a building site where creativity reigns – and certainly more, it’s up to you.
Store your bricks safely in this big BYGGLEK box while building new creations or when taking a break. Of course it also has room for your finished creations or other treasures you want to hide.
On the BYGGLEK box there is a small square – perfect for a window, a balcony or for building something that shows what’s inside or who the box belongs to.
Perfect to combine with BYGGLEK bricks – a package filled with playfulness, 200 bricks in different colors, shapes and sizes, as well as 1 practical tool that makes building playfully easy.
Playing and building is fun for both children and adults. Maybe you can create a secret fantasy world together which is full of fun things that only you know about?

Not just any box
With BYGGLEK we want to make it easier and more fun for builders of all ages to make great creations – and to take breaks. Since no matter how immersed you can get in the colorful building blocks, sometimes you need to eat and sleep. If the latest creation is left on the floor, it can easily get stepped on. In BYGGLEK everything is safe – and easy to continue playing with.
When the LEGO Group saw a storage need for their famous building blocks and contacted Children's IKEA with "Do you want to play?", it was like finding a fun new friend, says designer Andreas Fredriksson. "We have the same view of children's play and that everything is easier when having fun."
The box becomes part of play
We at IKEA have worked with storage and smart organizing for a long time, but here Andreas and the rest of the team added a new dimension. “We wanted to make a box that is part of children’s play and creativity, rather than hiding it away. In BYGGLEK there is lots of room for all kinds of fun”, explains Andreas, showing how you can play both in the box and on the lid, which has the same distinctive studs as the building blocks. "And on the side of the box, we made a recess where you can build a window or decorate – making the box more personalized."
Easy to tidy away – and play with again
The dimensions of all BYGGLEK boxes are adapted for our storage furniture, making them easy to store – and the latest creation can even be displayed on the lid! "Yes, it’s important for children to be able to display and be proud of what they’ve built", says Andreas, who wants it to feel just as easy to take out the box from where it’s being stored and start playing again. “Even if it’s only for a little while before school or bedtime, it's nice if BYGGLEK can contribute to more time for play together."
Material
What is ABS plastic?
ABS plastic is a strong and stable material with a glossy surface – making it perfect for especially used everyday objects like cutlery drawers, kitchen utensils, toothbrush mugs and bathroom hooks. ABS is made from oil-based, non-renewable raw materials, but development is progressing and we are using more and more recycled ABS. It is an important step towards our goal of only using plastic that is recycled or from renewable sources.
Function solution
Not just any box
We believe that play makes life at home and the world a little better, and this convinced us to develop BYGGLEK. The idea was to make the storage box a part of play and creativity – instead of hiding it away. When a break is needed, the latest fantastic creation can be admired on the lid of the box. And it’s just as easy to take out the box from where it’s being stored and start building again, even if it’s for a little while before school or bedtime.
