From a practical/functional perspective: It is solar, so you don't have to worry about battery replacement. It will charge in natural or artificial sunlight I believe, which is good because I live in Cleveland, OH where often we don't see sun til May.
The dial is large enough to read clearly, with gleaming dash marks to denote the hours. There are also small white dashes in between them to denote minutes. It's small, but clear with the contrast of white on black. The day and date are both present and very visible. The hands are luminous (big plus, I love luminous watches!), and each hour has a luminous dot above the hours.
The clasp and bracelet is easy to self-adjust. I bought the $5 watch adjuster and did it myself. You hammer and pop the pins out and adjust easily. You don't have to worry about scratching the watch if you are careful.
The watch is substantial in size and weight, but not so much that it's noticeable on your wrist. I am a female with 6-inch wrists and it is difficult to find a watch that looks unisex but not so big that it looks like I've been playing in Daddy's drawers. It sits perfectly on my wrist, covers it completely but does not look awkward. The weight is actually a plus in my opinion because I wanted a bigger watch to counter my titanium (very light and almost unnoticeable) watches.
Aesthetics/Look: This is where this watch really shines. Literally. Some reviewers complained that it is too shiny, or they didn't expect how shiny it was, and I think this is what makes it stand out. The Bezel is nearly mirror-like, which really gives it a shine and pop, making it more of a dress watch (though really looks great casually as well). The bracelet is more brushed, and it really makes the face of the watch stand out. The dash hour markers almost look diamond-cut so that there's a jewelry-like gleam to them when the light hits it. I've only had this watch for a little while now, so I don't know how it will hold up to scratches. I usually liked brushed steel/titanium because I can buffer out any tiny scratches myself. So this will be interesting to see how the mirror-like bezel will hold up or look with any tiny scratches.
All this, and for such a practical price! Overall, this watch is amazing. The only cons I can think of right now is that it makes me want to buy more in the Seiko series! And my other watches will likely be collecting more dust now.
I left the store and walked to three other stores in the mall and the prices on this very watch varied widely. The lowest in store price I found was $145 and the highest was $240. I bought it on Amazon while standing in the mall.
There really isn't anything bad about this watch, but there are a couple of small annoyances that are almost not even worth mentioning. The first is when you first set the time you have to wind all the way through the dates, which is a pain. So if today is the 2nd and the watch says it is the 3rd, you have to wind the dial 720 times (24 times per day x 30 days) (to get it back to the 2nd. If you pull the button out half way you can wind through the days of the week, but the wind through the actual dates you have to move the minute hand all the way around the dial.
The other small annoyance is that one of the pins on the clasp inches its way out of the watch every few days and I have to push it back in. Again, no big deal, but I'm afraid that one day it may fall out. I might put a dab of clear nail polish on it to see if that helps.
Overall, a great watch and I've very happy with it. It is the best watch I've ever owned and I look forward to many more years with it. It is sharp looking, well built, and keeps good time. Best thing about it.... No more batteries.
I've spent a considerable amount of time surfing along the site so my goal is to simplify the search for those who are still dubious (wish to came across this kind of review before buying it)
Overlook:
This is a truly classy, sober very elegant watch. Trust me, I'm a lawyer, always wear suits and was looking for a dress watch to wear for work and this is it without any doubt. Anything flashy, overloaded or too pretentious was out of the picture. Believe me this watch is perfect for that purpose, it's really discrete, eye-catching in a good manner, and very beautiful, most of all because it`s simple in a good way. It just look REALLY GREAT without needing anything else, as it is it`s perfect. MAke no mistake, I don`t mean it's plane or doll, on the contrary it does not leave anything to regret or to ask for.
The diameter:
Perfect, not too big nor too small, it has the right size, even though I could modify the size I wouldn`t change it for any different. For you formal dressers, this is the proper size, I know big or monster diameters are in vogue, but if you care about your image and have good fashion taste, you'll know that it`s not elegant and makes no match for well dressed outfits.
Same for the bracelet, some customers complained because it didn`t fit to they wrist but they must have not been well advised. You can remove as many links as you want, and if one is two tight and two is too loose, don`t forget that the clasp has two wholes where the links are inserted, the distance between them is almost half the size of one link so this makes barely impossible for the bracelet not to fit properly to anyone`s wrist size. There's no way that you can`t find your side between 1, 1 and almost a half and two links. Every link measure is 2cm.
the color is not opaque, but it does not glow either, it has a minimum brightness as all steel bracelet have, when the sun hits, but I emphasize, MINIMUM. by no means this characteristic it's a let down. It really looks great. About the scratches its the average, any watch that you wear is gonna suffer hitings, but you have to look at a really close range and with the right lightning to find it. it is almost imperceptible you have to search specifically for it and will still have troubles to find it.
I`ve LITERALLY searched between ALL Seiko watches that Amazon sells (won`t trust any other seller)below and over this prize, have read customers review, compared with pictures and videos all over the web. I'm extremely picky and spent a considerable amount of time choosing and WITHOUT THE SLIGHTEST HINT OF DOUBT I can say that if you are looking for an elegant watch, with black dial, to wear for work or a formal occasion and without a chonograph, THIS IS THE BEST WATCH YOU WILL FIND IN ALL THE SITE. There`s simply no other watch that can compete at this range of prize for either benefits or looks.
Do not think it twice, if you are looking for a dress watch just buy it.
I have mine for 2 months now and can`t be more pleased. of course you can choose a more expensive one such as a citizen, but serves no purpose as you will be just paying the brand name. Do not look for anything else, this won`t be a dissapointment. I`ve also bought another watch and this became my favorite almost inmediatly.
THe calendar setting is very easy and well explained in the manual, it has big hands so is really easy to read the time. The hands are also luminous, and if it`s charged the hands will glow at dark. the black dial makes it much more elegant and the perfect combination for suits, trust me. It also looks great with sport/casual outfits
The pictures may look as the diameter stands out of the bracelet but in reality is much more thinner than it looks, it has a compact design thas is not big at all.
For charging purpose you have to make a strong initial charge, for about 8 to 12hs at daylight (it depends if it sunny or cloudy, check the manual) or you can charge ir with artificial light (of course it will take longer).
Fully charged it last 8 months without exposing it again to the light. If you charge it completely and then decide to store it in a closed box and never open it again it will still work for 8 months, this is true.
I trully can`t find anithing bad with this time peace, I used to wear my father's seiko, this year turns 40 (the watch) and it`s still working as day one. This is a really trustworthy manufacturer, you won`t be dissapointed.
It's a watch for every age, I'm 27 years old and all my family and work mates complimented it. It also makes for a extremely great birthday gift for parents, brothers, boyfriends (wish my girlfriend had read this before haha)
DO NOT HESITATE, THIS IS THE BEST WATCH IN THE MARKET. YOU WONT FIND ANY BETTER IS THAT SIMPLE.
please ask any questions you may have.

I was very delighted about the built quality. It was intuitive how to shorten the wrist band, so I even had not to bring it anywhere to do that.
Minute and hour hands glow in the dark for a while and on hour marks are glowing dots as well. You cannot see the date or weekday in the dark though.
The only tricky thing was the Date and Weekday setting. It was not very well described in the users manual. When pulling out the adjusting knob, it is hardly noticeable that there are two positions, so typically You will pull it out to the second position (time adjusting position).
Also The users manual did not include the note about changing the language, so I found out by accident, that this watch has Weekday setting in two languages - Spain and English. Language changes when You turn it forward within 12pm-2am on the time adjusting position.
The users manual did not contain the warning (or I could not find it) about that I must not change Date or Weekday setting when the time is between 9pm-3am. If You do so, the Date and Weekday may function incorrectly.
Also note, that You will have to adjust Date every short month when it is 30 days and in february as well, since it loops from 1-31 all the time.
Anyway, I am really happy about this purchase. It is just simple but very elegant and beautiful watch. It is also very slim, only 11mm and not very big, as I don't have big hands.
Oh, almost forgot - it is SOLAR, so there is no need to change battery EVER (at least it is advertised that way)! :)
Recommended to everyone as the only watch and as a part of the accessory colection as well. You will not regret it! ;)
