General Finishes® Gel Stains are quite possibly the easiest of all finishes to use and achieve a "hand-rubbed" look without all the work. Application is easy with a foam brush or lint free cloth. The heavy bodied gel formulation permits the product to flow out evenly (no drips or runs) preventing uneven penetration for consistent color control. Combined with no sanding (your choice to sand or not) between coats and a quick “re-coat” time, you’ll be finished sooner with less effort and better results than ever before.
Features:
- Easy-to-use stains simply wipe on with a cloth or applied with a foam brush (no spills or splashes)
- Heavy-bodied, and so does not penetrate as deeply into the wood as liquid oil-base stains do
- This is the stain that has the most "finishing feel" of all General Finishes' products

Gel Stain - Oil Based White / 1 Pint
After ten years, first time I’ve ever been disappointed with a General Finishes product. The main issue being the in-store display showed the candlelight color, on both Pine and Oak, as having a reddish-brown tint, but applying it on unstained Birch and poplar, and previously stained pine, it had a light orangish-brown tint to it (not the desired color). Also, the pre-stained pine, which I sanded down, allowed more than I anticipated of the original stain to shine through. Other than that, I would’ve given the product five stars.

Gel Stain - Oil Based Brown-Dark / 1/2 Pint
I've been woodworking for over 30 years and while I don't use stain often I have used plenty over the years on various efforts. This is EASILY the best stain I have ever used. I should not be surprised as I'm a huge fan of General Finishes various clear products. This GEL stain is absolutely phenomenal!! ...and this Java color was exactly what I was hoping for to update a couple of pieces for our new guest bedroom. (very contemporary looking) Love my local Woodcraft in Boise, ID. Always top notch service and advice.

Gel Stain - Oil Based Carbon Gray / 1/2 Pint
This was gray. No brown, all gray. Not sure if my can was mislabeled or what but this looks nothing like the samples in the store or the color on the can. It's like gray paint. I don't think I can return it now but I'd like to. Not happy at all.

Gel Stain - Oil Based Brown-Dark / Quart
I purchased this to restain my kitchen cabinets. I had planned to use Minwax but my local big box was out of stock and everything I read in preparation screamed the praises of General Finishes gel stain. I really wanted to like it and maybe for other projects it would be great, but it really wasn't easy to work with and saved me no time. I was happy not to have to strip/sand the cabinets but it's been a week and I've only gotten half of the kitchen done. It takes so long to dry, 12-24 hours per side per coat. Then another 12 hours per side for the topcoat. I followed the GF Youtube tutorial. Started with foam brushes but they went limp so fast and I went through so many I had to switch to brushes (one to stain, one to skim with mineral spirits, one to dry brush). Out of the 6 doors I've done so far only 2 look good. Splotchy, streaky, too thick to easily get it into corners and seams. I have no doubt more skilled people would know how to correct along the way and I have a couple of years staining and painting experience, but this just isn't as great as blogs and reviews led me to believe. Also incredibly messy and hard to clean brushes after.

Gel Stain - Oil Based Brown-Dark / Quart
I used GF Gregorian Cherry a few years ago and while it gave the color I wanted I was not able to maintain a more translucent finish and felt gritty.Thinking I would have better success with some experience I just tried a project (Urn made with quartersawn oak) with this Java color. It is a pain to apply and you have to be careful not to leave streaks as you gently wipe off. It is all about the wiping off process, you either get it right or it's awful. Just hated using this product and the results are very disappointing. I wish I could just start over.

Gel Stain - Oil Based Brown-Dark / Quart
I loved this point. I didn't have any experience on cabinets paint. Based on reviews I decided to try the Java Gel and I'm very happy with the results. I tried to paint with foam brush but it leave to much marks. I got a better result painting with a small cotton cloth.
