Hi - The telephone base of the VTech SN5147 does not have a keypad light. The cordless handset though has the said feature.

Does the answering machine have a button to play messages or fo you have to call voice mail.

Yes. The Audio Assist button on the side of the cordless handset can temporarily increases overall volume by up to 50dB, making the incoming speech easier to understand.

I absolutely love this phone. It has a ton of helpful features. I bought it for my elderly father who has dementia and this has been a life saver for him. He loves the phone and it has cut out all of his scam calls and voices to him who is calling. I'm going to buy one for myself now.

It was perfect for my older parents. I was able to set it up with no problem and they really enjoy it .

I bought this for my grandmother who is hard of hearing. As we are trying to talk phone to phone through the window at her living facility. It amplified plenty!

Exactly what I expected

Clarity is good and amplifier is clear.Just a little complicated to set up contacts.

Got it hooked up with dial tone.  Couldn't figure out easy dial feature.  Left it for someone else to figure it out.

Meets description

There isn't a display on the desk phone so it makes it useless for caller id.  You have to us the select menu button to get to most functions which makes it confusing to an elderly person. They just want to see their missed calls and hear their messages. The directory is not connected to memory buttons so you have to add the numbers twice for each. The phone doesn't allow area codes for local numbers so you have to delete them off in the directory to make calls.  The phone stressed my mother out so bad we had to return it after 2 weeks. She also didn't like the smart call blocker function because we needed to add all of her friends and family before she could get calls. We didn't add some neighbors and the wouldn't leave a name for her to answer.

Too complicated for 82 year old

Only the base of the phone gets a dialtone.  The cordless part continues to say it's "out of range" even  though it's in the same room.
