Lovin' It

Had mine for 12 years now and it's going great.  I use it a bunch on some rough areas.  Have had to change the steering link (Don't run into trees and you won't have this problem!) but nothing else but yearly oil, sparkplug, and air filter changes.  The tires are even going great with the original air.  I hope I can get another if this one ever dies.

Ready for spring

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had three Troy Bilt riders over the years. They are a very solid rider and you don't go broke buying it!

Troy Bilt mower

I bought mine late in the summer of 2017, and everything worked great for the remainder of that summer and all of the next, but last year, it became increasingly difficult to get it to go into the forward gear position.  The lever moves freely where it attaches to the transaxle, but the long shaft of the hand lever flexes excessively, and the opening in the body panel simply isn't large enough to move the lever so that it engages the forward gear.  It's as if they designed this specific part to only be operated as gingerly as possible, all the while knowing it would be in an environment where it would be manhandled.  When it first started happening, I simply cut the opening in the fender to allow greater range of movement for the lever.  Now, even that modification is proving to lose effectiveness, so I have two choices: 1. replace the lever, and see the same thing happen again in a year or two, or 2. reinforce the existing lever to reduce the flex, allowing it to reliably engage the forward gear.  All of this could have been avoided if the manufacturer had simply spent a few cents more on the part, so that it stands up to years of normal use.

Mostly good, but with a few pain points

got it earlier than expected. was missing one of the battery screws. i had to find one small enough. runs good until the blade is running then it shakes like crazy and doesn't cut the grass evenly. for the cost of this machine.
