RM - 지나가 (everythingoes) ft. Nell (English Translation) Lyrics

[Intro: RM]
It all passes, someday, for sure, certainly
It all passes, someday, for sure, certainly
It passes (Everything, everything, everything)
It passes (Everything, everything, everything)
It passes (Everything, everything, everything)
It passes (Everything, everything, everything)

[Chorus: Nell, RM]
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
[Verse 1: RM]
Just like the night leaves and the morning comes
The spring leaves and summer comes, but (Yeah, yeah)
Just like the flower wilts and the fruit grows ripe
Everything needs to go through pain
Embrace the world and suck in a breath
That prickling air that fills up your lungs says everything

Yeah, back when I wished to drink it in innumerable times
Underneath those old times when I, a fool, grew dull

[Verse 2: RM]
Everyday I pray (Everyday I pray)
That I may become a slightly better adult
And everyday I stay (Everyday I stay)
Since both people and pain will all die one day
If you want to become dull, you need to go out into the wind
You know forever isn't possible in dreams
Instead of unclear words saying to have strength
Instead of the lies that it's all just the way things are
Just like all these winds
That like the winds it will pass I pray

[Chorus: Nell, RM]
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It passes
(Everything, everything, everything goes
Everything, everything, everything goes)
It rains
[Outro: Nell]
It rains
It rains

Everything goes

About

Genius Annotation

“지나가 (everythingoes)” is the 6th track of RM’s second mixtape, mono.

With backing piano, guitars & synths, the track is an uplifting song about how everything in life, even the pain, has to pass. Nothing on earth lasts forever, including the hardships in life. The chanted lines throughout the song emphasize this message.

In a vlive discussing the track, RM mentioned that it was one of his favorite tracks on Mono and the head of the company, Bang PD had wanted to include it on a BTS album, but the song was too personal for RM to agree.

This is the song I wrote in three days when I had
to return to Korea alone while shooting Bon Voyage 1. It’s not like the melody hit me all of a sudden. I had this song in mind long before Bon Voyage 1.

We often say things like, ‘it will pass,’ ‘this too shall pass.’ I have this mentor, sort of like a counselor. The mentor told me that the only way to relieve psychological pain is to think that it will pass eventually. Thinking that the pain shall pass eventually and it will reduce slowly is the only way to reduce pain. I thought a lot about it. It’s sort of a mantra I keep repeating myself and the one that I want to tell people I hold dear. […]

After shooting Bon Voyage we were told to keep a low profile, so that we don’t give a spoiler. During that time we all stayed in the studio for three days. I’ve worked on the beat, guitar and rap for this song during those three days, and I saved the song for later. PD Bang suggested that we include the song as a hidden track for the [BTS]‘ album, but I told him the song was too dear to me and wanted to save it for later. […]

I’ve kept listening to the song when I’ve made the first draft of the song. I was comforted by the song when I had a hard time. Thinking that ‘this shall pass.’ It may sound as too simple or corny, but sometimes something intuitive can be helpful. Rather than giving a logical advice simply giving a hug and saying ‘you did a great job’ can be much more helpful. I hope the song gives you that comfort, so I named it “everytinggoes.”

While working on the song I thought the song would be perfect if NELL would helped me with it. He was a huge inspiration for me, because they are my hero. […] Actually I wasn’t acquainted with them or anything, but I’ve asked them through ANR to help me with the producing. Then Kim Jong Wan of NELL texted me and said “I’ve listened to the song for four times and the song touched my heart. I really love the song.”

It was an honor to work with my childhood heroes. They played the guitar and the drum themselves. The song turned out so great with their touch. It turned into a something really great. They are also famous for their mixing technique. Jongwan spent almost six hours for mixing. We kept exchanging our opinions about the mixing. It took almost six hours. And the producing took over a month. He put a lost of effort into the song.
