Ecopia Retreat is located on a spacious private property in the centre of Kangaroo Island amongst wildlife and nature. The solar-powered accommodation provides guests with a balcony and a seating area. Guests can prepare meals in the fully-equipped kitchen and on a barbecue facilities outside, and can order ready-to-make, pre-packaged food. Using natural rainwater and natural gas heating system, each bathroom is equipped with a bath or shower and a hairdryer. Guests can enjoy wilderness views from all the rooms. Two luxuriously appointed rammed earth villas, each graced by sweeping panoramic views of the natural surroundings and carefully sited to provide guests with an intimate, private experience. Each villa is stunningly crafted from rammed earth, and appointed with a luxurious king-size bed, and a freestanding bath. A contemporary open plan design boasting double glazed full height windows throughout, Spotted Gum floors and a charming log wood fireplace gives guests a truly unique eco-luxe immersive stay. Combining eco-luxury with a quintessential Kangaroo Island nature experience. Meticulous attention to the design of the rammed earth villas has made it possible to achieve the softest footprint achievable when it comes to luxury off-grid living. Warmth in the winter, coolness in the summer is harnessed within the surrounds of the monolithic 300mm thick rammed earth walls, while the full height double glazed windows bring the outside in. Each villa is comfortably equipped with all the modern, eco-friendly, appliances required for a luxurious self-contained stay on Kangaroo Island. Powered by an off-grid solar energy system and utilising 100% pure Kangaroo Island rainwater.
Owners Rob and Yael share a love for immersive experiences, nature-based travel, eco conscious and sustainable living. They have created luxury accommodation options for like-minded travellers where you can truly relax, restore your wellbeing and be inspired by authentic Kangaroo Island. Rob has a real understanding of the value of a quality tourism experience acquired through his Cultural Tourism degree and being a keen traveller himself. He has always had a special interest in rammed-earth construction and a wish to create unique solar-passive dwellings designed to complement the natural Kangaroo Island wilderness. Self-taught handy and passionate Rob worked hard to create the remarkable villas, with the help of a good friend and locally renowned builder Nathan Guidera (NRG Building). Yael is an experienced business consultant and trainer, who worked in mainstream corporate, community and Indigenous settings, high end tourism experiences at Ecopia. Like Rob, she has a genuine appreciation for Indigenous Australian culture and native flora and fauna. Yael has fallen in love with its wilderness and beautiful community.
Besides the iconic natural attractions, Kangaroo Island or KI as locals call it, also boasts a number of boutique wineries, marron, honey and lavender farms, adventure tourism opportunities, great fishing and surfing, numerous galleries, and a wide range of restaurants. Ecopia Retreat property boasts plenty of natural wonders, including a natural habitat of the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoos! Spotting them or even finding a feather is quite special!
