I have used these for a little over a month now, smooth drags and strong enough to handle big fish, solid reels for the money, all penn reels have made a solid comeback for the saltwater market!

As I start my 25 th year as a guide in fresh and salt water I just got 20 more Penn Battle 11 spinning reels. I use these reels for flounder and rock fish in the salt water  that just destroys most reels quickly but the Penn's are built for this with the best anti corrosion qualities you will find. My reels really get abused , stepped on and even dropped  on the deck but they work every day. I just spray them off with the hose when I get home and oil the line roller and bail occasionally and they are good to go.

Penn Reels And Salt Water

I bought two  Penn Battle 2’ 6000 reels a few days ago. I pared them with a 10 foot Penn Carnage spinning surf rod and the 11 foot spinning Battalion surf rod. I used 30lbs Trilene mono .They were a real treat. My son and I put them to the test over the weekend while fishing the coastal waters in Sargent Texas.  I would highly recommend Penn products to anyone. I have not been disappointed. I only use penn.

Awesome reel

I'm a captain in South Padre Island and I use Penn Battle 2000. Two weeks ago I was  able to to my clients on a 47 1/2" redfish that weighed 45lbs. i can say that the Penn Battle was up to the battle and won! Great, durable reels!

This Battle real with this rod is the perfect set up for the affordability of it casting for foot ball fields it feels and has the touch you need to feel the head shake of that fish

Stellar products

I use to fish nothing but Shimano, and started having trouble with the reel locking up on me. I bought a Penn Battle II and now that is all I will use, fresh and saltwater!

Dependable

I have quite a few reels . I have the Shimano Stradic , the 3000 and 4000 , they literally are double the price of the battle 2 in which I have 3 of them ,4000,5000,6000. By far the Penn battle 2, is a nicer reel , and the Penn holds more line , mono and braided , also the Penns are braid ready .

Excellent reel

I've fished Penn for year's, only purchase new reel's to upgrade to new styles not because of poor quality or worn out equipment. I fish for Bass in fresh water and the other guy's are always chasing what Penn has been giving me all along. Great quality at a fair price

I own several penn spinning reals and with the purchase of my original battle I didn't think it could get much better in that price range. Well I was proven wrong when I got my battle ll. I use them for everything from inshore as intended to light tackle off shore bottom fishing. They have handled everything from axe handle spanish, seabass, triggers , assorted snapper, trout , and reds in the 30lb range ( not bad for a 3000 by the way ). Penn is truly my brand now , thank you [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Made good better

A good solid reel and is a work horse of a reel. A great drag system.  I took this reel perch fishing and it really got a work out.  Never failed me.  Worked like a reel should. If I had one improvement to make on this  reel it could be smoother while  reeling it in.  Other than that such a great reel.  I will probably  be purchasing another one in the future.

I bought a 4000 used it 3 times, no huge fish,  gears felt strange,  and the spool started not going up or down.  Threw it in a drawer used my other reels,  decided to open it up and see what was going on.  Teeth were broken off the main gear and crosswind gear. It's a shame, I've been using penn reels for the last 30 years.  My other battle 2 is not smooth and the reel handle has movement even when tight.  I'm a fishing guide and can't deal with malfunctions.  I know its not a super expensive reel but it should work.  Just went and bought new bgs.
