It may be that the retracting mechanism needs to have a short travel and release to trigger the retraction.  If you pull the hose all the way out you don&#39;t have any way to pull it out and release.  This works like the old fashioned roller type window blinds.
Try a sharp tug and release to see if that works.... otherwise you may have to disassemble--- just be careful of the now fully tensioned spring.

If the hose springs a leak inside the unit, where do I find instructions on fixing it?

The hose reel bracket is about 9 inches tall and sticks out about 7.5 inches.

I purchased this to replace a similar product with the Stanley label.  I used the Stanley for several years and did not take precautions that would have given it longer life.  This product is very similar but a main advantage it has is that the hose diameter is 5/8' compared to 1/2" on the Stanley.  I ordered it on a Saturday and received it the next day, on Sunday.  I was able to hook it up to the old mount without installing any hardware.  I have used it several weeks and I am very happy with it.  
Regarding the mount, i originally bought a pressure treated 4" x 4" x 8', , dug a hole with a post hole digger net to a water faucet and buried all but about 4 ft.  I then packed the soil where it was buried, purchased a 4 x 4 plastic fence post and cut it to size.  I placed a matching cap on it and mounted the brackets to it before attaching the reel.  It is solid and looks vey good.  A very important and simple thin to do to extend the life of the unit. Do shut off the water flow when you are finished and spray out the remaining water.  It will take a lot of pressure off of the retractor when reeling it in.  It also will extend hose life during the summer when the hose get hot.  The heat will cause water in the hose to expand and ruin it.  Also make sure that you disconnect it from the base in the winter (which is very easy) so that the hose does not freeze.
All in all, I am very happy with this purchase.

The service in getting my product here was fantastic. The price was very reasonable also. The only thing that is really disappointing is that the hose developed a Big Bubble and I know that the hose eas defective....Would be really great if i could get a replacement hose sent.

Amazing Retractable Hose Reel!!!

Great!! My grandson said this was our best purchase for our new house. Have had the one in front for 3 years. Works as designed. Just bought another one for the back. This brand is sturdy and better than others we have tried! Highly recommend!!!

Very handy looks good and tidy on brick. No winding which is a grest feature.........just hope the spring mechanism holds up....

The manufacturer ASSUMES that it will be mounted to a masonry wall ONLY.  
I had to make a board to mount it to and then mount that board to the side of my house...and there is no hardware included to do this...only the Masonry Wall hardware.
Very short sighted. 
As a result, it took my 5 times longer to install than it should have.

Great product....beware of Mounting

I have had RL Flo Master hose reels for a few years.  They work like the spring loaded roll-up window shade.  RL Flo Master is one of a very few hose reels that retract automatically and do not waste water.

Water powered reels expel water that needs a place to go and if the reverse lever is not shifted off at the right time, chances are pretty good the retracting mechanism will be damaged.

Hoses stored on manual hose reels do not consistently get put neatly away around this household.

The RL Flo Master hose reel provides the optimum  relatively fool proof garden hose storage solution for us.

Bought this in 2016, within a year it starts to leak at the connection inside the unit on the side, got really bad so I called manufacturer and they promptly sent another one, after a year Of use it started bust at the back part so I had to fix that, now the retractable don't work anymore. I see the price has increased over $20 since I purchased, totally it worth it. Time for another brand.

Doesn't last

Do not recommend this product. Had it less than 3 months and the entire tip of the hose, including faucet, blew off. Not possible to repair. Called Walmart for help and they refuse to take it back, offer credit, replace it nothing. In effect I wasted $100. I expected more from Walmart.
