BIGFOOT in Your Studio

The Behringer BIGFOOT is a USB condenser microphone that’s ideal for home studio recording, gaming, streaming, and podcasting. The BIGFOOT has four pickup patterns — cardioid, omni, figure-8, plus a stereo pickup mode that captures your source in a spacious, realistic soundfield. To accomplish all this, it’s equipped with three high-quality capsules and a digital USB interface that gives you plug-and-play convenience. Simply plug BIGFOOT into your computer and you’re ready to record in your DAW or streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube — no additional software downloads required! Sweetwater’s take: USB mics were once relegated to podcast duties, but no more. With BIGFOOT, Behringer has given us not only the ultimate podcast mic, but a capable studio tool.

4 pickup modes accommodate any recording task

Multi-pattern condenser microphones are usually fairly high-ticket items — and stereo mics even more so. That being the case, it’s quite impressive that Behringer has managed to pack BIGFOOT with not only the three standard polar patterns — cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8 (bi-directional) — but also a spacious-sounding stereo pickup mode to boot. This gives BIGFOOT amazing versatility — especially considering its gentle price tag.

Picking up the sound that’s in front of it, BIGFOOT’s cardioid mode is perfect for recording your voice and most instruments with rich, full-bodied sound. But certain instruments you’ll probably want to record in expansive stereo, which would normally require two microphones or an expensive stereo rig. BIGFOOT to the rescue! In stereo mode, it captures a wide, realistic soundfield that’s ideal for piano, drum overheads, choirs, chamber groups, and the like.

Omnidirectional pickup mode captures sound equally from all directions, and is great for for round-table podcasts and to document the “you-are-there” ambience of an acoustical event such a live band recording in a rehearsal studio. Bidirectional mode (often referred to as figure-8) picks up from both the front and the back of the mic and is perfect for capturing face-to-face recordings such as two background singers on one microphone. It also offers excellent side rejection of ambient sound which you can use to advantage in many live sound situations.

Onboard monitoring and control

No matter the setup, BIGFOOT makes recording easy with its built-in monitoring and control facilities. Plug your headphones into the 3.5mm audio out jack at bottom of the mic. You can monitor your voice in the ’phones and control the volume. BIGFOOT also has an onboard hard mute switch that can be a life-saver in certain live stream situations! BIGFOOT works with any USB-equipped computer, tablet, and mobile phones that support USB power. On Windows machines, an ultra-low-latency ASIO driver for PC audio optimization is available for free download at behringer.com.

Great sound and quality

The sound quality on this mic is superb. I would most definitely purchase it again. Works well with Wavepad.

great for medical dictation software

i have this about 2 feet in front of me with the gain set halfway and it can pick up my voice accurately while i'm whispering. The only thing that could've made this item better is if it came with a carrying case since it is quite big and unwieldy

BIG Big Foot

I opened the box and found that the packing was really well done
When I pulled the mic out of it's box all I could say was "Holy Fracking" HUGE !
After awhile of messing around with my computer's audio in/out assignments I got it.(I had a little trouble having it show in Logic Pro X, but success !)
I hit record after I got the audio in. (I had to use the headphones out on the mic, but I'll get it figured out)
I recorded some creepy whispers, and then some podcast voice.
It never sounds like what I hear in the headphones but playback proved that the recording was tracked with my voice sounding clear and realistic.
So, for me, this was a great buy, it works like I had hoped it would and sounds great doing it.

The only things that I found disappointing, was the lack of decoupling of the stand to the desk, a little noisy and sensitive to rumble (air conditioning) too.
The only other thing I wish came with the mic would be a windscreen/pop filter. I'm having a heck of time finding one that I think might be large enough. Oh Well......
Music background: Retired Pro.

The BIGFOOT is BIG

I was looking for an upgrade for another USB microphone that I have that was poorly engineered. I was looking for a similar desktop microphone. I came across the Behringer BIGFOOT at a gonga sale price. I figured I would try it. It was listed as a bit bigger than my existing microphone. Which I though would be good.

A couple of days later and a huge box (for just a microphone) shows up at my house. I drag it in the house and open it to find the BIGFOOT in all it's hefty glory. This thing is Brobdinagian proportions. The reason they call it the BIGFOOT is that when used it is essentially 12 inches tall (the measurements listed are for when it is folded up). It is heavy, if you're gonna use a boom get a sturdy one.

The microphone has four pick-up patterns, a nice upgrade over my old microphone. Adjustable gain on the microphone is also a nice addition. To be honest the mute button (with LED) feels a bit flimsy compared to the rock solid body and other controls.

The sound quality is very good, probably better than I need as it picks up even the minimal background noise (computer, fans, etc.) that I have present. I have no issues with the sound quality. My use is for spoken word voice and not music, so for that it works well.
