Amazing Sofa, 12 years and goingTatianaI have had this sofa for 12 years now and never had any issues. It’s incredibly versatile as it offers plenty of seating, lots of storage and excellent pull out bed. After 12 years it’s still going strong. There are absolutely zero issues. It’s literally like new but the material is becoming worn out and I’d like to reupholster the sofa, which is why I ended up on this page today.
I’m shocked by all the bad reviews! People who say the pullout doesn’t latch when the side seat leans out - why is it leaning out? You were supposed to attach it to the main seat during the assembly. All the necessary parts were included as well as instructions. And people complaining the sofa is too firm - it says it right on the product page that it’s “firm” which is exactly why I bought it because I prefer my sofas and mattresses firm with good support. If you prefer a softer feel, IKEA has plenty in that category as well.
I’ve been extremely happy with this sofa, nothing but love from me.
Do not buy this!ShashankThis product is definitely not worth the money. The pullout part of the couch keeps detaching from the main part of the couch because there is no way to secure the side part of the couch. When the side part of the couch leans away from the body, the pullout part fails to latch on to the bracket underneath the main body. It defeats the purpose of having a sleeper couch. Horrible design! If anyone bought this and is having trouble with it, refer to Yair’s review. The 480786 bracket from Home depot solves the problem. However you’ll still have to deal with the side part gradually leaning away from the main body. This product wouldn’t last more than 2 years. For the amount I paid, I expected a far better product.
IKEA is biggest scammer , quality of sofa - lowASofa looks alright for couple years- than it will have a problem with sagging- and IKEA will ditch you for warranty responsibility. They are liars and will tell you any stupid nonsense reasons just to get rid of warranty coverage for their faulty furniture. So if you planning to buy reliable sofa - look somewhere else for quality and trustworthy company instead of IKEA.
Won’t stand two yearsQianI have had this piece for a year and three months. The lower half of the side piece (at the right end) kept leaning away from the body after a few days’ sitting because the two connecting bolts were moving out of the holes. You could hammer the piece to force the bolts go back but every a few days you need to repeat this practice. In the last half year it was deformed so bad that I couldn’t hammer the bolts into position. With a deformed side piece, you wouldn’t be able to stabilize the pull-out part because the hook is about an inch away from where it could hook. My sofa might be completely dead in a few months… Fabric is okay, cushions keep their shapes but really the design is disastrous.
solution for sofa issueYairfor everyone that has bought this item recently and can't return it anymore and has encounter the same problem, the sofa part that comes out and when you are laying down and it detaches out of nowhere from latches, being a handyman I got tired of this issue and in the local home depot go to the hardware section and look for part: 480786 ( Handrail Bracket any color you want . use original screws, you only need two. this is going to replace the latch that originally came with and this will solve the problem. this solution will cost you less than 15$ ... do better IKEA and make this latch longer so we customer don't have to go do a resource for a simple solution...
Not for daily useElaineI bought this couch 2 1/2 years ago and it broke after 6 months. The back rest was not sturdy at all. The pull out part wouldn’t catch the safety hooks and would roll out on its own. We can’t afford to buy another couch and I don’t know how to make a warranty claim, because the website doesn’t show you how. Now we’ve been stuck with a broken couch and it’s a huge disappointment since we spent almost $1000 and it claims to have a 10 year warranty so that’s why we bought it because I thought it would be guaranteed to last at least 5 yrs.
Cute CouchLisaThis couch is a great value for the price. We use it in our pool house, so it’s not used very often, maybe a dozen times over the summer… but that being said, it is a nice piece of furniture. We bought the mattress pad to lay on top which is able to be stored inside of a back cushion (separate purchase). Overall happy with the couch! Hard to beat the price.
Great KatFantastic
Love it, I bought two!EliseI bought this couch several years ago for the beach house. It was in the living room, office and now family room. I sit on it weekly and the dog has his spot. I bought a thick topper for extra sleeping comfort. I recently bought a new one for the living room. I love to pull out the bed and use it while I am watching a movie. It turns the whole couch into a chaise lounge. It love it because it’s modern clean lines and you can change sides of the chaise. It is more expensive than when I first bought it but I still love it. I have the dark grey and cover the area where the dog lays. It has held up well ( 5 years) and is still clean. My house is MCM and it fits in perfectly. Thank you IKEA.
Had this couch for the last 5 years and it's greatYleniaNot sure so why so many bad reviews. I have had this couch for now 5 years and it's great. Recently only the extension started to come off at times, but it never happened before. I wash the cushion covers all the time and I easily remove cat hair from it (I have two cats and two kids that mess it up). I would totally buy it again. For that price I could not find anything of better value. Storage and size are great!
Ikea quality isn’t worth it anymore, especially with recent price increasesAnonymous reviewerI bought this sectional a year and a half ago and was so excited. Started to feel the frame 3 months in, the pullout ALWAYS separates and detaches from the couch, the sectional attachment has a noticeable gap in it, the fabric pilling is insane, the pillows and upholstery are misshapen, and it is nearly impossible to get pet hair out of it. This is with 2 normal weight/sized adults who don’t have others over often and two cats who never scratch it and aren’t on it much.
If you look at other reviews, you’ll notice that most of the positives are from people who’ve had the sofa for at least 4-5 years, while recent reviews (past 2 yrs) are mostly negative. Like everything else at IKEA it seems, quality has deteriorated in recent years while prices increase. It’s pretty clear that consumers are not getting what they’re paying for, especially WRT this sectional.
Refunds or recalls need to be issued before I ever consider purchasing a couch or major furniture item here again.
Worth it! BrooklynI have had this couch for SEVEN years. I bought it when I got my first apartment and it has even moved states with me. I’ve since replaced it and it’s no longer my living room couch, but it’s now in our kids playroom/game room. But it gets used often. Not as comfortable as it once was, but still very functional. The only thing I need to do now is purchase a memory foam mattress topper to go on top when we have guests just to make it more comfortable. But it’s definitely been worth it for my and my family.
I’ve tried to get rid of it/replace it a few times, but my husband loves it. Even with all the wear and stains🤷🏼♀️
This is the worst couch I have ever ownedKevinI have owned this couch for almost 2 years now. It is the worst couch that I have ever opened it is incredibly uncomfortable as it is extremely firm but you can also feel the frame of the couch underneath the cushions. Sitting on it is painful. This is beyond a “firm” couch. A park bench has more give. The fact that you cannot remove any of the cushions on the bottom prevents any sort of adequate cleaning. Furthermore within eight months of owning it, the frame broke, and it only increased the uncomfortableness of the couch. This couch has made me believe that I will never purchase another couch from IKEA. The fact that this couch cost $1000 is heinous. Save yourself the waste and go buy a couch off Wayfare for far less and the same quality. This is junk.
Wish I didn’t buy itNadyaWished I liked it. The couch is firm and I knew that buying it, but sitting on it feels like I can feel the frame of the couch verus it just being firmness. The gentleman we hired through the ikea referred taskrabbit app built it incorrectly so the side of the couch keeps sliding away from the couch itself. The wheels sliding out have chipped my hardwood floor in multiple spots under the couch and in front of it. The hooks that are supposed to keep the sliding portion of the couch connected to the main couch also do not properly connect and we often have to lift the couch to reconnect it and hope it doesn’t slide out while we try and relax. Really wish we could return it.
Great for moving!ElayneI've had this couch for about 4 years and I have kept it through 4 moves. It's fairly easy to deconstruct and re-assemble and only has minor damage (mostly from transporting from apartment to apartment) I'm sure it would hold up better being keep in one piece! It's so comfortable I've fallen asleep numerous times while watching TV and the pull out bed feature is very handy. As others have mentioned, the pull out piece does tend to detach if the latch isn't secured as you roll it. I love this couch and would recommend to another who moves around often!
The perfect couch for anyone who’s ever said, “I wish sitting felt more like being gently assaulted.”EricAh, the FRIHETEN from IKEA—the perfect couch for anyone who’s ever said, “I wish sitting felt more like being gently assaulted.” If you hate your spine, congratulations! You’ve found your soulmate in this lumpy torture device disguised as furniture. The cushions are so firm they could double as an interrogation tool, and the sleeper function? A cruel joke. Pull it out, and you’ve essentially unrolled a medieval rack for your guests. Assembly is an Olympic sport in frustration, complete with cryptic instructions that might as well be in hieroglyphics. By the time you’re done, you’ll need therapy—and not just for your back. If your idea of relaxation is slow, inevitable spinal ruin, the FRIHETEN is your dream come true.
Excellent, but not worth $999WilliamIf you're buying this sofa in 2024, I would consider any amount higher than $729 to be a premium to its actual value. I bought the faux leather version in summer 2016, 8 years ago. The frame and pullout bed are the best things about this sofa. The faux coverings and seat cushions performed as expected for about 5 years. Then all of the cushioning started to sink, and large sections of covering started coming apart. All of the cushionings and covering now need to be replaced, but that would cost at least $500. If you're considering a new purchase, this sofa is not worth today's $999 list price. That is a 67% increase from the $599 I paid in 2016, despite economy-wide inflation of no more than 30%. Analyzing everything with ChatGPT makes me confident that in 2024 one should expect to pay only about 22% more than I did in 2016, which would be $729. I could give Ikea the benefit of the doubt if the price were as much as 30% or even 35% more, but a 67% increase is excessive.
Purchased 2 Years AgoEmilyAfter 2 years of use the sides have twisted side ways, the bottom slide our piece never properly slides out or moves in, the fabric is pilled, It's heavy to move, super bulky and top is stiff and the cushions are sunken. I regret paying for this.
Simply uncomfortable - No back supportDavidYou will get a back pain after a while. you will need to put it against a wall in order to put additional pillows for head support.
Not greatLindaIt never caught on the bottom piece. After several months the main piece dipped in. After just over a year the bottom piece won't go in. For the price, it is not worth it, sorry I purchased it.
