Mainport Hotel Rotterdam

LikedThe hotel was clean and friendly. Excellent location with metro and tram right outside the door. Pool, sauna and steam room were very good. The pool was a little small. The jacuzzi bath in our room was brilliant. We liked that the toilet was separate to the bathroom. Bed very big and very comfortable.

DislikedCoffee machine in room had no instructions so had to find a you tube video. Even then it didn't work properly. Fridge didn't work.

LikedWe booked two double rooms for our family of 4 during the marathon weekend. The hotel is in a super location right next to the marathon startline (as well as being near the bridge, looking over the Maritime Museum, near the cube houses and Markthal etc) and our rooms had a great view over the course. We really appreciated the 12pm checkout so we could come back after running the quarter marathon in the morning and have a welcome shower and see the marathon itself go by below, before checking out. Staff were very helpful. The Illy coffee machine was great, the shower was excellent, premium bathroom products and nice to see them in more sustainable pump packs rather than those fiddly little bottles, and the kids really enjoyed the bath and the novelty of the tv embedded in the bathroom mirror. We were sorry we couldn't do the breakfast due to our race. My first ever Booking.com booking was to stay in this hotel nearly 20 years ago when it was the Golden Tulip, and we had very happy memories of that trip (and breakfast!) and were glad to see the hotel, although under different management, was just as great as we remembered.

DislikedRooms were close but not next door, which would have been ideal as our kids are too young to share a room so we were constantly popping between rooms. I also always look for a hot chocolate sachet to enjoy before bed but there was only coffee and tea this time, although they were good quality. I was also plagued by the Booking.com 'hack' and despite paying up front about 8 months in advance, received multiple fraudulent emails and messages in the Booking app over a period of time requesting payment or this booking would be forfeit. Booking.com promised to investigate when I reported it but I didn't hear a thing from them after that, however from other news reports it appears that the breach was rather due to poor cyber security at this and other properties enabling malicious actors to access the Booking.com login used by the properties, rather than a breach at Booking.com itself.

LikedI enjoyed my stay at the Mainport Hotel a lot. The hotel’s stylish modern design captivated me from the moment I walked in, setting the stage for a memorable experience. The check-in and check-out process was quick and easy. The room was not only spacious but also well-equipped with all the necessities for a comfortable stay. Having both a bath and a shower in the bathroom provided the ultimate relaxation experience after a day of exploring the city. The TV installed in the bathroom mirror was a novel and fun touch that added to the luxury. Being an active person for whom daily workouts are a must, I appreciated the gym, located on the 8th floor. It offered a breathtaking view of the city, making workouts enjoyable and inspiring. The hotel’s location close to the city center was another important factor. All the Rotterdam sights are in a walking distance.

DislikedIt was impossible to sleep with the window open because of the street noises. The single-use stirrers instead of spoons in the room was a bit disappointing. The gym’s opening hours (6 am - 11:30 pm) are extensive, but not 24/7, which can be a slight drawback for night owls like myself who enjoy late-night workouts.
