I'm new to the Pit Boss Austin XL but the pellets lasted a long time with my little Traeger. You'll be surprised how long they last. Of course, consumption of the pellets varies by the outdoor temperatures and what temps you're cooking at. Cranking it up to 500F will use a lot more pellets than a long, low smoke at 150-200F. I probably needed 2 bags a season and I used the smoker a lot. I imagine this larger smoker will use more pellets, I figure maybe 3 bags a season. That's still way cheaper than propane or charcoal.

You will burn about 2.5 lbs/hr when operating at 400 degrees.

How long will a 40 lb bag of pellets last If you are using it as a BBQ grill?

I am a research and development chef and it took me about 3 uses to get everything adjusted properly. P-set, auger feed/prime, cleaning temp probes, etc. Now i give it 5 stars. I  use it to smoke or grill anything . See photos

Okay this smoker is fantastic. It spools up the smoke very fast and you can even smoke mac and cheese as you can see on the grill. I actually use the Walmart great value white cheddar mac and cheese and then I just added some Hormel real bacon pieces and topped it with a little bit of mozzarella. You can smoke anything in this beast

Can’t go wrong with this grill. Ton of room for cooking space. So easy to use and cleanup is a breeze! It took about an hour to assemble but so worth it. We love it and look forward to many wonderful meals!

Amazing! So easy to use! Very easy assemble , very heavy duty!!!! I used it in a bbq competition the first day , had it running from 9 am until 6 pm with only one bag of pellets! Is worth every dollar! I seared meat , smoked ribs and smoked chicken! I would Definetly recommend this grill I’m sure there are a lot better ones , but this is absolutely what I needed!!!
