Yes. I tested it for you by placing my son's 800+ page text book on it. You can tilt the stand back to hold thicker books.

I don't think so. It is a music stand for sheet music.

I tried putting a full size Webster's dictionary on it and the top piece where you put the music slowly tipped backward. It can be tightened more but I think you would have to use tools or removable locktite to get it to hold. I only tightened it with the thumb screws by hand. Even then it might make the stand too top heavy for the base.

No, it is not. It is meant for sheet music.

As long as you have the bottom legs set at the right height, It will be fine

Yes, it will hold a light binder and 20 sheets, however, it is not very steady. It will topple easily if you bump into it. If I were using it to perform I would buy a heavier duty one. This one is great for practicing with sheet music only. My daughter will be using it to perform in school with a light binder but she only has three performances a year and she will play at everything at once so there is little chance of someone knocking it over while she is playing. Hopefully that answers your question.

My son uses it on carpet and it does not tip over. The legs spread pretty wide without getting in the way.

Dont' buy this one-I tried with a 1" binder and 5 sheets of music and it fell over

My son has a 1 1/2 in binder with 18 sheets of music(I counted, lol). The stand holds well and doesn't topple over. It is pretty sturdy, height adjusts well and I love the carrying bag!

I wouldn't try it especially onstage. It's a little light weight and would probably topple over. The lip that holds the music is narrow as well and you wouldn't be able to turn the pages comfortably.

I would order this model and try it out with your 1 1 /2 inch binder.
If stand topples, then I would suggest that you return this item in condition and box you received it and order from Walmart the conductor's stand. It is extremely sturdy yet heavier than the less-expensive stand. With conductor's stand, the music rack does not fold down compactly. It's bulky to portage between venues, yet is extremely sturdy.

I have a music book that I use on it. It seems fine. I use a little clip to hold the pages in place so they dont flip in the middle of a song. It's not the heavy duty stands that need a forklift to carry them, but if you just need it to hold some sheet music or a book, it seems to be worth it.

This stand will work just fine for your purposes. The tripod legs and music holder can be aligned / adjusted to be fairly sturdy. It does come with a bag.

Great product for the money

My son is a beginning music student(Clarinet). I wanted to get him a stand that wasnt too expensive, but didnt want one that was of poor quality. I saw a few on ebay, at a good price, then decided to check Walmart since they seem to have everything. Let me tell you, it is awesome! Its folds easily, has its own bag, my son has no problem tightening it up,(to lower it or raise it). we have no problem with it not holding a music book. I did put my really thick websters dictionary on it and of course it went back but, seriously, who uses a music book that heavy. Get it! you wont be disappointed. Oh yeah, i ordered it Sunday, and got it today thursday. Instead of Nov 29. Love Walmarts Site to Store

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and adjustability of this stand. The Stand bag was a nice touch too. For a lightweight stand, this one is very good.

Great Buy!

I recently took up playing the trumpet again after some 25+ years. It wasn't long until I found myself needing a music stand. I saw this one at Walmart. The price wasn't too bad. So I ordered it. I expected it to be like the old, rickety, fold up stands we used to use when I was younger. But I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this stand is, in comparison to those of the old days. Sturdy and more versatile. Quite a improvement over the years. And it came with a nice case. I may not know much about music stands, So, maybe its not the best; but it is perfect for my needs.

This stand was a great buy ! It is completely self contained, in that all the parts are connected to each other. It is very portable because it folds into a neat package and comes with a carrying case. It is also quite attractive and fits the bill nicely.

This is the best of the cheap portable music stands. It's very lite, very portable, nice case. A good product for the price if you don't expect too much.

We are new to the music lesson scene; our 6-yr. old needed something to hold her music. I didn't want to spend a lot, nor get anything to big for we have a small home. This music stand is great and my daughter can put it up and take it down herself. Im not a professional musician so I don't know what is out there, but we are extremely pleased with this music stand!

For a tall person you have to pull legs up so not flat on floor and then not as stable on floor, especially if have binder of music on instead of just paper.

Good, convenient music stand. Folds up small and comes with its own bag for easy storage. This is the second stand I've bought; I bought one for each of my school-age sons to practice their instruments at home. I would recommend this product.
