Beautiful Lizard Island offers a rare combination of contemporary comfort and island wilderness.

Natural and wild, this is Australia's northernmost resort and it lies right on the Great Barrier Reef. As a private island, there are no day trippers – so the 24 powdery beaches, lagoon and 1,000 acres of national park are all exclusively for guests to explore. There are coral gardens ideal for snorkelling just moments from the shore, and sensational diving includes nearby Cod Hole. Be sure to look out for the monitor lizards that inspired Captain Cook to give the island its name. The resort itself exudes laid-back luxury and its facilities are fresh, elegant and understated.

Why we love Lizard Island

  • A luxurious setting in a remote location

  • Dive the world-famous Cod Hole, just a short boat ride away

  • Arrange a picnic hamper for a romantic beachside lunch on one of the secluded coves

  • Learn about the essential work done here with a tour of the Lizard Island Research Station

It seems impossible to describe how breathtakingly spectacular this place is — the resort, food, service, scenery, diving, snorkeling and reef are AMAZING! But the most incredible part of Lizard Island is the truly impressive and talented staff. A BIG THANK YOU and our sincere thanks to Paige, Tomas, Jas, Fre, Tom, Brendan, Jasper, Dan, Juan, Ines, Azeline, Michaela, Shannon and countless others for making my, my wife’s, and our tween son’s Christmas holiday so special! It was magical (and we’ll never forget watching Santa Claus arrive by boat)! Best wishes, fair winds and following seas to all of you! We can’t wait to visit again!

From the minute your plane touches down on the island, the staff is waving and smiling anxiously waiting to create an amazing experience for you. There is nowhere else on the planet like this resort. My wife randomly found it while looking on google for a a remote vacation. We’re so fortunate to find this incredible spot. The staff provides the best customer experience we’ve had at any resort (and we travel a lot). They make it very personal, they are incredibly friendly and love their jobs (because they work in paradise), and the food is Michelin star quality. You can snorkel from the shore and find incredible sea life and reefs. We saw sea turtles, sting rays, monster clams, unlimited fish, sharks and dolphins. It was nuts. I don’t write many reviews on TripAdvisor, but this experience was so amazing, I had to share it with others.
