Shining a light on the need for sunscreen.

Before Supergoop! was ever found on a store shelf, our founder, Holly Thaggard, started the company to get SPF pumps into schools. Her mission was to change the way the world thinks about sunscreen, starting with our youth.

For the past 20 years, we’ve continued Holly’s work by donating SPF to schools across America. Now, our work continues with even more passion and purpose than ever...

Frequently Asked Questions
You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers

Can I nominate my city/town for the Ounce By Ounce® program?

Yes, please email ouncebyounce@supergoop.com with a detailed note about why you’d like to nominate your city/town. In order to have a deeper impact on the communities we go to, we select only a few places per year so we can focus our efforts and make real change. This first year will be a pilot program that allows us to learn and evolve our impact and we’ll consider expanding to new cities as we grow the program.

How do you choose the communities you go to?

Our 2024 communities are Atlanta, Miami and New York City. We selected these cities due to their areas having elevated rates of skin cancer as well as significant sun exposure. We also wanted to leverage existing grassroots support to help ensure we’re able to make a meaningful impact: One of our headquarters is in New York City, so we have been working closely with community leaders in the area, and we began advocacy initiatives on the ground in Atlanta and Miami last year, meeting with city officials and influential community members to gain a better understanding of their cities’ unique needs. Additionally, Georgia is one of a number of U.S. states that still doesn’t allow SPF in schools without a doctor’s note, so we hope to impact state legislation through our activation in its capital city, Atlanta.

What happened to the previous Ounce By Ounce® program? How has it changed?

Previously, the Ounce By Ounce® program focused solely on providing SPF donations to schools and youth organizations across the country. While we are extremely proud of the impact we made in 2,100+ classrooms over the years, we are excited to spearhead even more meaningful change across entire communities (not just in schools!) by working to improve sunscreen access as well as educating on the importance of sun protection.

Will the new Ounce By Ounce® program still benefit teachers and students?

Absolutely! The new program will allow us to reach a broader range of individuals within each community — teachers and students included.

How can I get involved in Ounce By Ounce®?

If you’d like to get involved, reach out to us at ouncebyounce@supergoop.com to learn about volunteer opportunities. If the program isn’t active in a community near you, remember that change can start with just one person! Find ways to educate and inspire daily sunscreen use in your community — together, we can change the way the world thinks about sunscreen and help end the epidemic of skin cancer.

Can I nominate myself or someone else for the Ounce By Ounce® Advisory Board?

Yes, please email ouncebyounce@supergoop.com with details about what makes yourself or your nominee a good fit for this program. Keep in mind that our advisory board is elected to advocate on behalf of their communities, identify opportunities for meaningful positive impact and lead education efforts to drive adoption of healthy sun care habits. We are looking for individuals who are active in their communities and making an impact through work they’re already doing — they should be involved with community-based organizations and non-profits related to health, education, family and/or recreation.

What kind of organizations will the Ounce By Ounce® program be working with?

We’re looking to partner with community-based organizations and non-profits related to health, education, family and/or recreation.

Will the program make any financial donations in addition to its goal of annually donating sunscreen valued at $1 million? If so, who receives these donations?

Sunscreen donations will be distributed to our 2024 communities through partners and local organizations. As we activate the Ounce By Ounce® program throughout the next year, we will continue to evaluate opportunities for other forms of donations that may benefit the program’s target communities.

Will Ounce By Ounce® provide resources or support for individuals who have been impacted by skin cancer?

We will provide educational resources that help educate on the importance of sun protection in the prevention of skin cancer, as well as fostering adoption of healthy skincare habits, however we are not a medical health care provider, so we always recommend that individuals speak to a dermatologist for support regarding their specific healthcare needs.
