Kelis Sassy and Soulful at The Fillmore

by Fiend4Music on 12/22/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

I remember “Milkshake” being a big hit in the early 2000s with lots of video play on MTV. More recently I had downloaded “Jerk Ribs” for free thanks to my Starbucks app. I didn’t know what to expect from this show, since those were literally the only two Kelis songs I was aware of. Kelis was sassy and soulful. Her voice a bit raspy and you couldn’t always hear the words she was singing. I’m not sure if that was the sound or her voice not being strong without production assistance. She appeared to be having a great time on stage. Her crowd interaction was fun to watch. She sat down at the end of the stage and took a photo with a birthday boy. Then sassed him a bit for trying to get too touchy. She performed a more soulful, slower version of “Milkshake” which fit well into the rest of her set. She ended the show with “Bless the Telephone”, a newish song that required her to hold the lyrics in her hand. Overall I enjoyed the show.

    Awesome

by Virgomagazine81 on 6/23/14Webster Hall - New York

I've been a Kelis fan for years and this was my first time seeing her live. It was really good the only issue was it was soooooo hot but otherwise fantastic. The venue was nice webster hall.....two long island ice teas.....$36 that was a real problem.

Kelis went on about 20 minutes late but she sounded great and was very welcoming to the crowd!

Sexy & sultry Kelis's voice is not to be missed!

by WEBSTERHALLKELIS on 6/16/14Webster Hall - New York

Kelis did not disappoint! She performed at least one song or more from her various albums. The dress she wore was everything and she always has a killer ensemble for each show. She started/ended the show with "Feeling Good" and it was almost on par with Nina Simone!!

    Kelis is not commercial

by judgeandpersecutioner on 6/16/14Webster Hall - New York

Normally when an artist is not commercial, it's a great thing. However, Kelis is not a commercial performer who is trying to make commercial money. It's not a match. Anything larger than a 30 seater intimate blues/jazz venue is too big for her voice. Her voice is amazing. She is mega talented. However, she wants J. Lo money and picks these terrible venues and then proceeds to do all slow bluezy songs that just don't fit. The playlist was poorly thought out, if at all thought out. She sat on the floor of the stage the whole night (not on chair) so no one could see or hear her. It was a really terrible show. Sad because it shouldn't have been given the talent of the performer.

Show was AWESOME!! Started a little later than expected and the pre-show songs didn't really keep anyone intrigued. Suggestion for next time - keep the crowd hype with Kelis collaborations - maybe a mix of Busta, Clipse, etc. Especially knowing that she won't perform those ones during her set, as fans I'm sure folks would love to hear them.

Kelis went in for the kill!

by Bimi893 on 6/16/14Webster Hall - New York

I LOVED her performance, she was so humble and connected with her fans and even knew their names & shouted them out, she even gave compliments to people who styles popped out to her. Her vocals was on point& she was fully glammed.

by itsmedandan on 6/11/14El Rey - Los Angeles

Im still speechless from her performance last week here in Los Angeles. I have also been waiting for years to see the amazing, beautiful woman perform. I can finally say that life is complete. She put on one of the best shows I have ever witnessed in my life. Besides the fact that she is remarkably beautiful, her vocals were perfect! Her interaction with the crowd was the best. So cute and funny. She truly loves her fans and she shows it. Kelis, if you read this, I can not wait to see you again!! Much love!
