Flawless
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Oh yes, this router is awesome! This is especially great if you have an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). I hate having a modem because its just extra gear in a small space. Im sure this router works great with a standard modem, but its for sure a game changer with an ONT. Super fast speeds (see my pics) and we only pay for 250mb internet. The VPN setting is great; now I can finally watch hockey in Dallas using my nhl app. Setup can be simple if you are not tech savy, but it also allows for plenty of advanced user changes. Word of advice, if you are using an ONT be sure to power cycle both the router and ONT after setup to get your internet connection back up.

Not worth the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this item and had to return the first one due to connection issues. Best Buy was awesome about sending me out a replacement right away without having to return previous router so I was not without wifi at home for the weekend. So far I have not been able to see any difference with this model versus the previous model I had when it comes to wifi range. Nice looking OK performance.

Super Highway, Finally
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hard-wired connection is amazing. I am paying for 500MB download speeds and I was concerned that with my previous Internet Service Provider who I was paying for 100 but only getting up to 59 or even 60, was I going to get the same? My wife is excited with the wireless connection connecting from the 2nd floor of our home or all the way out in our backyard, up to 50 yards away from the house. Great purchase.

Better products out there
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Better products out thereI have the D link ultra AC 3200. It is handled several boys gaming at the same time my daughter and I streaming all on 200 MB download from spectrum, because I don’t want to pay them more than that. My son asked when he moved out to take my D-Link so I replaced it with this ASUS. It handled my daughter and I and streaming but when the boys came over that weekend and there were only four of them instead of the nine they were upset because it kept lagging which I guess is very bad when you’re a gamer. So after that weekend I returned the ASI it handled my daughter and I and streaming but when the boys came over that weekend and there were only four of them instead of the nine they were upset because it kept lagging which I guess is very bad when you’re a gamer. So after that weekend I returned the ASUS And purchased another D link ultra 3200. Once again my boys are back in business and I have had no complaints from them

A bit overpriced for performance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a few dead spots in the corners of my house, so I decided to shell out the $400 and replace my 1 1/2 year old Netgear X6 (which was a superb router)... 1st received Asus AC5300 had a busted antenna, so it took forever for me to get it replaced (have your order deliver to your house of you buy it from Besbuy.com, cause router is not available in stores, therefore it is a complete hassle to have it repaired/replaced if you order on line and pick it up at store. Don't make the same mistake I made)... The Router has an awesome look and its massive in size. It looks like something out of StarWars, and although it's missing the extra 2 LAN connections that the Netgear X8 (comparable competition model) has, the Asus makes it up in performance. Coverage is exceptional and best of all, Asus has a much better software than all of the competition combined... A nice software feature is the ability of the Asus to combine all the 3 bands (2.4Ghz, 5.0Ghz A and 5.0Ghz B) all in one, giving users only 1 Wifi to connect to, and the Asus router's hardware/software does a perfect job in placing the connected devices on the perfect band, depending on type and distance of any given device. It works like a champ... On other routers, you would have to choose on either 2.4 'or' 5.0 bands, not allowing you to take advantage of the benefits of each band, like the Asus software does. It makes a huge difference in the traffic of your network.... The Asus also has a decent APP, that lets you do pretty much everything, from blocking users, to give time limit to other users or guests, and even have the capability to shut off router altogether (awesome for those with kids and Internet time management)... The only reason I gave it 4 stars, was the price. I feel that my old Netgear X6 router, would give this new Asus a run for its money, and are very close in speed and coverage, and being almost $150 less, I think I would have stayed with my old Netgear X6... Just for the price... If you have the cash, and want top end Wifi performance, this Asus is hands down the best your money can buy!

This thing is a monster
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit has coverage all the other manufacturers promise but can’t deliver. Easy setup and has features for both a mature and advanced users. It has an available VPN that you can actually set up and use. Intuitive tools and settings. The best thing out now is that this can be made a mesh system with other routers in the ASUS family. I have two of these and an AC3100 in my house covering 3 stories and a deck. The range is excellent and the network is stable. This is hands down the best mesh system available at the consumer level. I tried Eero, Orbi, Velop and several others. None of them had the speed, range and stability that this system provides. I have had mixed dealings with their tech support. The ability to mesh these units is relatively new and I’m finding that the tier 1 support people are poorly trained on the product and process. They don’t advertise it, but these can be a wired backhaul as well as wireless. Tier 1 support doesn’t seem to know anything about the wired backhaul. It seems that to get two 5300’s set up as a master and node, it needs a wired connection to properly setup. Overall, it’s a small glitch in the grand scheme of things.

No Compromises — Built for Tomorrow!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We tried a Netgear Nighthawk as an upgrade, and it was great for two weeks before trouble started. So we then stepped up a notch to this baby. Can you spend more? Yes. But you don’t have to — this is a relatively future-proof device that delivers quality and exceptional performance with easy set-up. Speed/coverage are both excellent. Can you spend less? Of course, but you won’t match the features of this great device. Do it once & do it right. Get this and you’re safe for 5-6 years, no problem.

Fantastic range, good signal, customizable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic router. My old router was approximately 8 years old, the signal would not reach the furthest rooms in my house, and obviously not in the garage, or back / front yard. I had also started to run into issues with the new and old wifi equipment. Old gadgets utilized the slower 2.4 GHz signal, and could not use the 5Ghz signal. This caused congestion and slowed down my whole wifi. This router puts out three bands, one 2.4 GHz, and two 5GHz. Now I can run the old gadgets on 2.4 GHz, and the new ones on one of the 5GHz bands, splitting them up based on speed and location. The signal also reaches the garage, back yard, and the front. Furthermore, the router will automatically "move" the user to the more appropriate band when the bandwidth, or distance to router dictates the user would get faster speed if moved to a different band. The set up is very user friendly. The options are many, from parental controls, to security and logic algorithms (for moving users to different bands, etc...). You can customize the set up as much, or as little as you want. The cost of this router is the only downside. However, while it is expensive, I plan on keeping it for many years. Thus paying upfront now for this fantastic router, I will still have a good router 5 years from now, and a functional router 10 years from now.

Q: QuestionIs the fastest, best router out now?
Asked by random.
- A:Answer The Asus RT AC5300 is overkill for most households unless there are specific features that no other router on the market will offer. Read my review "A Great Router with a Few Short Comings". To your question...On paper it is one of the fastest the other might be the NetGear Nighthawk X8 AC5300. However "Fast" is a relative term and is influenced by your ISP, client device NIC, 802.11 protocol that a device uses, other wifi devices in the area, walls and more. "Best" is another relative term as it implies performance superiority. A less expensive router may meet your performance needs quite well. Bottom-line...if you are having network issues with your current router (and you've determined that it is the fault of the router) you may need to upgrade. However, upgrading to the RT AC5300 may be more than you need.

Q: QuestionMy house is a dead zone and our modem is in the basement(where I use for gaming) Our phones have bad service on our 1st/2nd floors, is this router better than what we have now? We have a t-mobile router that helps us make phone calls through wifi...
Asked by Rick.
- A:Answer First, this is a very powerful router that has thee bands. We don't have a basement, but our router sits way over on the west wall of the house. It's 3300 sq ft. And we get good strong powerful signal in almost every nook upstairs and down. Highly recommend, especially if you can center in the first floor of your house. If not, due data feed into house/cable locations I still think it will work for most of your house. Best of luck and BB does have a ten day return....

Q: QuestionDo you need a modem to power this router? And if you don’t need a modem is the router still good? I am looking for something to power my PC for gaming, i’m not sure if this would be the one because I do not have a Modem.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer This router gets power from a standard wall outlet. If you mean signal, that depends on whether or not you have fiber or cable. Fiber - If the hookup inside your home is cat6 Ethernet from a fiber ONT then you do not need a modem. This device can be the “first” inline device in your house after the ONT(outside usually). Cable - If you have cable and the hookup inside your home is a white coax cable then you will need a modem as the “first” inline device and will likely place this router as the “second” inline device.

Q: QuestionIs this router compatible to work with my Arris TM822A modem? Also my cable internet allows for speeds of 60Mpps...with that would this router make a difference in helping with speed etc?
Asked by RobPat.
- A:Answer ANY router is compatible with a standalone cable modem, or telephone/internet modem in your case. If you are subscribed to that speedclass, then this router is extreme overkill. I would look at some of the less pricey options. Unless range is an issue or if you are a gamer. You can spend half that much and get a great router to suit your needs! Happy hunting.

Asked by Gunguru.
- A:Answer Actually our ping improved with router. Your have to remember it’s going to mostly the wireless signal that affects your ping and general speed. This wireless router is designed for gaming and improving the ping respond time.

Q: QuestionI have a 3600 square foot house, will this router be good for me ?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I have a 6800 sq ft house and use two routers as a mesh network. Effectiveness totally depends on walls, layout of home and placement of router. If it doesn't cover everywhere, it's super easy to purchase a second router and turn it into a mesh network. The second router doesn't have to be as powerful as the first one if there are only minor areas that don't have good coverage. Totally worth trying.
