Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Stability Home Scale HSA Approved?

Yes, the Stability Home Scale is Health Savings Account (HSA) approved.

Who can use the scale?

The Stability Home scale is intended to measure balance in adults age 18 and up. Users must be able to stand on their own for 60 seconds. (The balance measurement algorithm is not optimized for children, whose bodies are still growing.) The Stability Home scale is intended to be used to gather objective information about an individual’s balance, or postural stability. This information should not be used by itself to diagnose any medical condition or disease. Consult your doctor about your balance and any fears you may have about falling.

What does it mean that it measures balance and predicts falls?

The Stability Home scale measures your balance, or how much control you have over your body’s movements to stay upright. Those with low balance scores are less in control and are more likely to fall in the coming year. Imagine you are out walking the dog. All sorts of hazards could be encountered. A tree root could be pushing through the sidewalk – a tripping hazard. Ice could be on the sidewalk, leading to a slip. If you have good balance, it is easier for you to maintain control over your body when you trip or slip, and you are less likely to fall. If you have poor balance, a hazardous situation like this is more likely to result in a fall. Those with very low balance scores, 1-3, are also more likely to fall spontaneously, without the presence of a hazard.

How has the balance score been validated?

ZIBRIO Stability scales take precision measurements of balance using BrioCore® technology, a powerful algorithm that measures many characteristics of your body’s movements in order to quantify balance and identify your fall risk. The scale and balance score have been validated through 7 different studies, including over 3000 balance tests of human subjects. BrioCore technology was developed as part of the US Space program and is Space Certified Technology.

How big is the display? Are the numbers easy to read?

ZIBRIO Stability scales are uniquely designed with older users in mind. The display numbers are over 2 inches tall, making them easy to read from a standing height without having to bend down to get a closer look.

Do you have to have a smartphone to use it?

No, the ZIBRIO Stability scales can be used with or without a smartphone. The ZIBRIO Balance Coach App connects with the scale and can be used to track your balance score and weight automatically. Most people’s balance scores change day-to-day, so tracking these changes can be very insightful. The app helps you understand your balance score, and gives personalized recommendations of how to improve your balance by making healthier lifestyle choices.

Do you have to connect it to WIFI?

No, the scale uses Bluetooth to connect to the mobile app. It does not connect to WIFI.

How do you turn it on?

Tap on the corner of the scale with your foot to turn it on.

How do you tare the scale?

You can tare the scale, or re-calibrate the weight, by pressing firmly but quickly on the center of the scale with your foot. You will see three dashes (- - -) on the scale’s display and hear a beep. Do not step on the scale until the dashes disappear and the scale again reads “0.0.” Stepping on the scale partway through the calibration process will cause the weights to become inaccurate.

Does the scale move?

No, the scale does not move. However, when you stand still for 60 seconds for the balance test, you may feel your body moving!

Where is the scale made?

ZIBRIO Stability scales are designed, engineered, and assembled in the USA.
