This is how It worked for me with this striker. You just remove the metal striker from the flint half, and over a pile of brush and kindling material rub the striker across the flint. This creates a large amount of high temperature sparks that should ignite your kindling.
Once the kindling looks like it is lit you lightly blow to get air flow to it and add small sticks and items that will ignite easily and you have now started a fire!

Ease Of Use

I love this little flint set. It's so compact and easy to carry, but it packs a punch when you have to use it for starting a fire. The flint and striker are both hidden away when not in use. It is also easy to spot with high visibility colors.

Great for camping!

I enjoyed creating my own fire without the help of a lighter, the fire starter works fine it took a few tries at it to get a spark but eventually I got it.. some fire starters don't look like this one and I wasn't afraid to use it.

Love it

A must have for any wilderness care package or emergency preparedness backpack. The flint looks like it will last a long time you want to make sure your kindling is really dry or it will not ignite when the spark hits it a fire starter is pretty much the first thing you need if you plan on doing any camping or survivalist kit in the woods but even if your just hiking or something it's good to have in your backpack in case of emergency. It works well as long as you know how to use it it's much easier than a flint and rock situation and is inexpensive I definitely recommend

Flint fire starter

This flint and steel is amazingly simple. Every outdoor person should have one in their pack. We live in Colorado and are always out and about in the mountains and it is so simple to use I was able to start a fire on my first try and I have never used one before. Love the water proof case and chain.

A must have!!

It took me awhile to figure out how to get it to spark. For the perhaps uneducated in flint, it could be a challenge as there are no instructions on or in the package. Once we struck it enough to wear off some of the black coating, that's when it really sparked! It says it works even when wet but we have yet to test that. It is light weight, stores in its own case and has a cord to keep it where you need it in your pack. Definitely a good tool to have along for a pack in camp or when you need to go light but don't want to sacrifice certain luxuries.

Skeptical but it really works!

This is super handy and easy to use. Much better and safer than using matches, at least for me personally. I like the bright orange color too because I can easily find it in my camping gear.

Handy

Something so small can be a lifesaver. If your an outdoor adventurous there absolutely no reason not to have this tucked away in your backpack. If you live where there's a chance of getting stuck in the snow keeping one of these in the glove compartment is a no-brainer. Easy to use. Keep it in a zip-lock bag with some dryer lint and hope you never have to use it, but thank goodness you can.

Better safe than sorry

This is a small flint. It is very lightweight and easy to carry in a pocket or to pack without it taking up too much space or adding any extra weight. It appears to be of good quality. I would recommend if you are looking for something easy and small.

Great quality

I love the case on this basic firestarter. It holds both the flint and the striker conceniently in the same piece. This is beautiful because it can be stored compactly and conveniently. Unfortunately, there is a flaw. The striker is not sharp enough to easily spark. I have started fires with flint and steel for much of my life, but this piece took a bit to get it to work. It took more force than normal. Eventually, I was able to get it work without too much difficulty.

Functional. Love the case.

This fire starter was very hard to get s spark generated from it. It was tried dry and under wet conditions. It generated a spark only one in about 40 strikes. My arms became tired and could not get my tinder stared. Hence no food cooked amd I'm cold. Would not recommend.
