Horrible room. So tiny and dingy. I booked a deluxe room, nothing about it was deluxe. Make sure you see the actual picture of the room before booking. Beware of room 124. Stayed at this hotel 20 years ago and we had fond memories of it. Boy have things changed, the manager needs to get a better grip on his hotel. They advertise and recommend their dining room . On the Friday we arrived and the next Sat, it was closed for a wedding. On the third night it was closed no explanation.. the service for breakfast was dismally slow and the food was good but not always hot. Do not book with booking.com as they did not reply with a solution to my room problem.

Not the idyllic Vermont Inn.
Not the idyllic Vermont Inn. Right on the highway - there was no quiet porch sitting! No usable elevator, no microwave in room. Noisy AC units in lobby prevented relaxing there. Dinner dining room closed 3 days of the week.
One good thing - it is in middle of Middlebury for walking ease. That's it.

I had never been to this part of the country, and was very impressed. I only went so I could help my daughter move in to the college there for the summer. I am so glad I accompanied her! I can not wait to visit again and stay longer if possible. I loved the Inn we stayed at, and the people were great everywhere we went. What a clean town! I could not find a piece of trash anywhere. No stray animals in sight, just immaculate. I thought I was on a movie set!
Adorable, darling, tiny town. Kinda wish I lived here!

Visiting the college or spending the night to dine in the historic downtown while traveling to other destinations would be the primary reasons for staying in Middlebury. There is a charming waterfall and covered bridge for added interest. The wonderful Shelburne Museum is only thirty-five minutes away and there is also a local history museum in town.

Middlebury and the surrounding area are great for enjoying the quintessential Vermont experience. There is plenty to explore and do. Middlebury is very walkable as is the Burlington area. Plenty of good shops and restaurants in both areas. We enjoyed a visit to the Lake Champlain Chocolate factory and the Switchback Brewery.
I love the appearance of the old Inn, that it maintains its original heritage charm. I appreciated the lobby area with its couches and work spaces where you could plug in a laptop or charge your phone while having a complimentary cofee (which was delicious). The staff were all helpful, but some were friendlier than others 😊.
I liked the tiling in the walls of the bathtub. Love the old elevator. I love Middlebury, beautiful town.
The house itself has some interesting history. The front desk distributes a two page history detailing the former owners and evolution of the property.
The common area are nicely decorated and well pointed with art, furniture, and books. The bedrooms have typical New England dormers which intersect with doors creating some customer door trim and doors
Beautiful traditional Inn with original decor. Felt like traveling back in time. The rooms are furnished in old style, but not dated. Beds were very comfy and bathroom modernized, even had an infrared heating system. Very central location in Middlebury. Good value for money compared to other places we stayed at.
Very well constructed, tight and warm post and beam type cabins. Excellent kitchen. Very good family room space for games and t.v. Overall it was perfect for our family. Comfortable beds, excellent bath room. Close to skiing and Middlebury for restaurants, night life. Would come again!!
Wow - this place is amazing. Beautiful cabins in a wonderful peaceful and secluded setting. Wonderful views! Comfortable beds and everything you need for a short or long stay! If we come back to the area, we will definitely stay again! Even delicious cinnamon twists on the first morning!
Everything about this hotel is lovely, from the friendly welcome letter with clear directions to my room upon arrival in the middle of the night, the room decoration, the breakfast, the staff and the location really 400 meter from the center
The owners are very friendly and highly organized. Every detail is covered. It’s a short drive from Middlebury College, felt safe and was very clean. We only stayed one night but were very comfortable and had everything we needed.
The room was adorable - very neat and clean - the owner was very nice and accommodating- felt welcome and it was one of the best motels I have ever stayed at. Will definitely go back again! Breakfast was great too!
Me & my family stay here when we went to take our daughter to Middlebury College freshman move in! It was awesome! Marty, Carol & their dog Merlin were amazing! We are going to stay there again next time we visit!
Historic hotel is well taken care of - rooms are comfortable, everything works well. Breakfast is excellent. Staff is wonderful. Anyone visiting this part of Vermont should stay here!
Hotel is easy to get to by road, and has many local shops and restaurants in walking distance. Breakfast was good, and staff met were courteous and friendly.
