Purchase options and add-ons
From the multi-award-winning author of Orangeboy, an addictive mystery that refuses to let you go long after you turn the final page. Can Becks piece the jigsaw together and find her sister before Silva loses herself?
Becks is into girls but didn't come out because she was never in. She lives with her mum, stepdad and eighteen-year-old Silva, her stepdad's daughter. Becks and Silva are opposites, but bond over their mutual obsession with K-pop.
When Becks' mum and stepdad go on honeymoon to Japan, Becks and Silva are left alone. Except, Silva disappears. Becks ventures into the forbidden territory of Silva's room and finds the first of eight clues that help her discover her sister's secret life.
Meanwhile, Silva is on a journey. A journey to make someone love her. He says he doesn't, but he's just joking. All she has to do is persuade him otherwise ...

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2021This year I set myself a goal of reading the YA10 shortlist and Eight Pieces of Silva was one of the books. You can definitely see why it was picked as one of the best UKYA books of that year!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2021This was a weirdly marketed book - it is definitely NOT a mystery, but rather a kitchen sink drama/soap opera type of story.
Competently written with an engaging main character/voice. However I felt there were too many references to geek culture - even to this geek - which felt far to over-saturating in the writing.
If you ignore the heavy use of Marvel references and the missing sister plot, everything else in the story is very engaging.
Do not read expecting a thriller of a puzzle to be solved - this book is very much a domestic disagreement story.
As long as your expectations are set appropriately based on the above, it is an enjoyable book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2021Patrice Lawrence has done it again. Another book full of heart, depicting the characters and stories teens need to read. All of her books are fantastic!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 July 2021I loved this book, it is a really sensitive exploration of grief, with a page turning mystery at its heart. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 May 2022My eldest grandchild thought this was wonderful
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2021Thoroughly enjoyed this. Devoured it within a couple of days.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 August 2021Richly drawn characters that had me drawn into their world and reading late into the night.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 December 2020This was a good read, nothing to linger on your mind for too long, but it does not leave you with any unpleasant feeling either. Quite gripping, entertaining, with just a slight hint of black vs. white juxtaposition. Not too many swear words (already good).
Good delivery of the characters, the author also is capable of taking you on to those London streets and it is easy to follow what is going on. No brain racking, no infuriating detail of things you don't want to see, just hop on for a ride and enjoy it.
Easy, flowing, highly recommended.
