What is The Art of Banksy about? 

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the original works of one the world’s most provocative and important living artists under one roof. The Art of Banksy is housed in the cavernous, 12,000 square foot warehouse - formerly Covent Garden’s iconic Belgian restaurant, Belgo. Here you will see world famous works of art including ‘Girl with Balloon’, ‘Flower Thrower’ and ‘Rude Copper’. Works showcased have been authenticated, with much work dating from the period 1997-2008, Banksy’s ‘golden age’. Banksy is infamous for his outdoor art, but this amazing exhibition also offers the chance to see his indoor pieces – often less well known but equally inspirational.

Banksy’s true identity remains a mystery – but he is considered one of the world’s top political artists. In 2010, Time magazine named Banksy in its list of the world’s 100 most influential people, alongside household names such as Barack Obama and Lady Gaga.
 

Five things you might not know about Banksy 

1. Banksy is reputedly worth a cool $50million, though that’s probably a conservative estimate.
2. Internet rumours persist that Banksy’s real identity is Robert Gunningham, but some suspect he may be Robert Del Naja, lead singer of Massive Attack or even James Ame, a British graffiti artist who lives in Israel.
3. When he started out, most of Banksy’s art was created freehand before he moved into the use of stencilling in the 1990s.
4. Banksy once paid tribute to French artist Monet, recreating his famous Water Lilies with the addition of a couple of shopping trollies and a traffic cone.
5. In 2004 Banksy printed a bunch of spoof £10 note. These ‘forgeries’ featured Princess Diana’s face and the words ‘Banksy of England’.

Covid-19 protocols 

The safety of visitors to The Art of Banksy is a top priority, and the exhibition will have COVID-19 protocols in place as follows: 

· We are limiting numbers so that 1m + social distancing can be implemented
· Please arrive 15 minutes before your allotted timeslot and our staff will stagger entry
· All customers aged 11 and above must wear a face covering, fully covering the nose and mouth at all times, whilst inside the exhibition
· Contact-free temperature checks will take place as you enter. If you show a temperature of higher than 37.8 degrees, you and your party may be unable to enter the exhibition.
· Please use the hand sanitiser provided as you enter the exhibition. Sanitiser can also be found at designated points throughout the building.
· The exhibition operates on an immersive one-way user journey with separate entry and exit points
· The venue is regularly and professionally cleaned continually. Our on-site cleaning team regularly sanitises common contact surfaces and toilet facilities.
