The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, in the heart of the Deep South, the ‘Big Easy’ is being regenerated in the wake of devastating hurricane Katrina.
One area relatively unscathed was Bourbon Street – where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars interspersed by others offering more colourful nightlife. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.
To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by the Disney-esque St Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.
From the river you get great views of the CBD skyscrapers and beside them is the huge Louisiana Superdome sports venue. Booking.com has several hotels near the Superdome, including some on Canal Street – a historic road where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.
In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou – the typical wetlands of the state.
Bring your shoes. Not the place to be cute and it’s a very walkable city. Uber is pricey depending on where you stay and Bourbon Street is full of rotten fish smells and debauchery. I will visit again but stay on the quaint part of the French Quarter. It’s a very dirty city so don’t bring your best duds and be show offey cause it ain’t that type of party.

Amazing city with great vibes, music, bars and entertainment options. There are musicians on every street corner, the party goes 24/7, with people dancing on Bourbon street all night and overall happy, chilled vibe. Great food, the French District offers a lot to see, you can do shopping in the outlet store. Definitely a must-see location in the US!

What I liked most was the variety of authentic foods, the shops there had all the various souvenirs that reflected the city, the trolley rides were accessible, landmarks were posted, free maps everywhere, and helpful street people.
Of course the undesirables in the street were unavoidable but not bothersome. Didn't walk after dark.
Would have been nice if some open air jazz clubs were close by within walking distance.
Perhaps more foot police presence at night would create a safety factor for walking.
The weather was perfect.
The river boat experience was as expected.

We love NOLA.
We love NOLA. Always use caution, of course, but every one had a great time. Festing is the best - FQF has free music all over the Quarter. We like staying outside the quarter - Warehouse district is great, Arts district is even better.

New Orleans is a city with a rich story.
New Orleans is a city with a rich story. There are many things to see and experience. Food is great and you have many choices. Very easy to get around, as in any big city, you need to be aware of your surroundings. Also, I found out to be very inclusive and diverse. I've been twice for work. I'm looking forward to visit again for vacation.
My room was very spacious, modern and comfortable and both room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. The location on Canal street is on the edge of the French Quarter in a quieter area but the popular (and noisy) bars and restaurants are only a few blocks away. There is a streetcar stop outside the hotel so it is easy to get around. You have to request room servicing the night before. I actually preferred this since it avoids being disturbed when you don't need the room cleaned.
The location is the best you’ll find in New Orleans. We have stayed in this area on multiple occasions and have always felt safe. You can walk to nearby Garden District spots. Ubers are super quick and the streetcar picks up right in front of the hotel. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The room was large, clean and had everything we needed. The free parking deck that is secured overnight is a huge bonus. We will absolutely stay here again!
The Hotel was awesome.. We stayed in the one bedroom suite.. It exceeded our expectations.. The roof top pool was a total vibe..! It’s in a great location.. Walking distance from Bourbon street and French quarter.. The staff was amazing and very helpful.. I felt very safe because I’m always paranoid whenever I’m in New Orleans but this time I felt very safe.. Overall great hotel and I had a great trip..
The location was excellent, very close to transportation, the French Quarter and all the New Orleans' tourist spots. The staff was very helpful, the hotel and room was very clean and exactly as advertised. The breakfast was good, if not special, with hot and cold choices as well as 24/7 coffee. The Concierge gave us a thorough rundown of the city and sites while we waited for our room.
Overall, our stay was ok. The New Orleans Marriott is quite perfectly located in NOLA, so we opted for this hotel.
The price for our stay was rather high (>300$pPpN), but we were willing to pay it. Our room was big, clean, and overall good. Our room was facing the other tower, so we mainly looked at the other building, but were also able to see a bit of the French Quarter.
The location was great, in between the French Quarter (for historic and typical tourist wanderings) and the Warehouse District (a great jump point to explore that area as well as the Garden Districts).
The hotel itself was good. It was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the rooms spacious. Front desk staff was nice, and they printed out our train tickets for us.
The hotel was very nice and reasonably priced for downtown New Orleans. I always felt safe. Breakfast was well-stocked and on time. Better than most free hotel breakfasts. Bed was comfortable. Room was quiet. I really have no complaints about this hotel; and would stay there again. Within walking distance to (1-2 miles....) to convention center and the French Quarter.
Location was excellent for the economic trolley car to and from French quarter. Fresh water with lemons in dispenser in lobby as well as fresh popped popcorn was a nice touch. Room was veery clean and spacious and bed and pillows extremely comfortable.
As an aside though, in general, the people of New Orleans are very accommodating, friendly and respectful.
Wonderful property in a lovely part of New Orleans. Very close to Magazine Street which has plenty of bars and restaurants, as well as wonderful independent shops. Only a short walk to the streetcar stop to take you to the French Quarter. Rooms were fantastic, individually decorated and very large. Ours had a balcony which was lovely
Our room was very spacious with excellent beds, nice furnitured and we enjoyed the balcony. The location is great, French quater just across the street. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. This all was a reason to extend our stay. When we come to NOLA next time, we'll choose Hampton Inn New Orleans French Quarter Market Area again.
The location of the hotel is convenient for travel into the French Quarter, as well as into the Central Business District or Garden Districts. The location is one of the only good things about this hotel, which is not a unique enough perk to compensate for all of the negative attributes ad experiences.
The location in the French Quarter of New Orleans was excellent; we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The staff were all very courteous and professional. It was very convenient to be able to park securely at the hotel rather than farther away as happens at other hotels
Location and value. Much lower price than big hotels nearby, which seem to prioritize the size of their lobbies. Our room was recently remodeled, it was very clean, and both the bed and the sofa bed were very comfortable. It's probably the best value within the French Quarter.
This is a great place to stay in central New Orleans. You are only a few blocks from the French Quarter, but the hotel is in a quieter, cleaner neighborhood. The rooms are immaculate; beds extremely comfortable. The lobby is bustling, but the rooms are in quiet hallways.
Property is centrally located in the French Quarter. While just off Bourbon, hotel is still quiet and provides a traditional New Orleans vibe. Staff was just amazing. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The wine bar downstairs is lovely. Would definitely return.
Hotel de la Monnaie is a wonderful boutique hotel on the edge of the French Quarter of New Orleans. It has all the amenities we required and the suite we got was so much better than a typical hotel room. Really enjoyed our stay here!
It’s centrally within the French Quarter and easy to get around. Friendly staff and the outside of the hotel provides you with that iconic New Orleans look.
